All I`m saying is that we must be careful not to `fix` or alter FUTURE versions of the game to make it ridiculously harder without really knowing the facts. I would bet money that the amount of people who do that well without reloading are in the minority. Which means that, in practise, a game could be made impossible to beat without Reloading on the Hardest level. Heck, even I would like to try the hardest

On reloading ... you guys are using it to falsely rationalise that Master players are cheating. The comment about reloading was made by me ... not the OP. I've never said Gal Civ 3 was too easy on Suicidal. I said that I found Suicidal rough but winnable. I don't consider myself even close to being a Master player of Gal Civ 3. With my first win on Suicidal, initially the Yor went on the rampage and I failed to bop them. I reloaded, failed to Bo

Brad: In connecting the dots between your recent posts I really hope there isn't a rationalisation forming that you are going to invest less in Gal Civ III AI. It's been a long-time since I played Gal Civ II but I agree the AI was pretty good. The main reason I bought Gal Civ III as an Elite Founder was because of the AI in Gal Civ II. To me it's your core competitive advantage which you should want to maintain long-term. And hopefully th
Stop feeding the troll
Completely disagree. Beneath the hoopla (which is coming from both sides) there are number of legitimate points about game balance that need fixing. And frankly, what he's posted you can replicate easily enough. In the meantime I'm simply avoiding things like the coloniser trait entirely. The OP can also choose to play more interesting set-ups, such as the third camp

I've always been a sandbox player but I've had huge amount of fun playing the third Campaign mission on high difficulties. On lower difficulties, the TAS Crusader and it’s support fleet can be used to overwhelm the Drengin and the missions can be done very quickly. However, at high difficulty, that approach is indeed Suicide, and you have no choice but to find another way. The problem is, even with the TAS Crusader and the fleets you start with, the D

Population and money, as well as how significantly you are dominating the map at that point in time, seem to be significant factors in getting higher scores. https://www.galciv3.com/metaverse#/playerOverallTab?playerID=eb467f15-9ea1-465f-b60d-25961adba0a7

LOL, marigoldran! I couldn't agree more this should be fixed and keep them coming. In the meantime I'll continue to avoid them to have fun rather than get bored. Out of interest, have you played Distant Worlds? You know, the best space 4X game ever. They've hinted Distant Worlds 2 is in the works. If you enjoy the game and are interested in breaking it during late Beta testing (like I will be) let me know and I'll put in a good word with t
I might point out that it's possible to station troop transports next to the most important AI worlds and the AI would ignore it.
Nice, keep those observations coming. Beneath all the hoopla there are some good ideas in this thread.

Okay marigoldran, while you seriously need to work on your communication skills, there is some truth in there in particular it's important to bring in the "Devil's Advocate" when testing. The other option of course is that some testers picked up similar issues but they were not actioned.

Well I'm bored as well now. You've proven the coloniser exploit is broken. Rather than give you a whole shipyard, it should provide a more limited production bonus, or shipyards costs should be significantly increased. I hope they fix it and in the meantime I've just going to continue to avoid it. And Carrier Assault Fighters. And Diplomacy exploits. Did I miss anything else? Hey it's a new release it's to be expected, we

Here is an in-game screenshot. It's a little over 100 turns into the third Campaign. Each Drengin Suicidal AI Assault Fighter has almost 200 attack so the Carrier in total puts out 1200 attack. The Terran fleet is one of mine. A couple of turns previously, when facing the same sized ship design from the Drengin, it had about 100 attack and I won that engagement without loosing a hit point. As soon as it switches to Carriers, my entire fleet is lost.<

The problem is balance and variety in strategy. Carriers become the one and only strategy, everything else is strictly inferior. I might as well as scrap every other military ship design or research approach at that point in the game. Putting an Alpha strike ship behind a tanking ship is not a counter, you'll still get hammered, I've tested it. Frankly just using Carriers every game (because you have no choice if the AI does) is boring. I enjoy Gal

Thanks for that. Looks like I now have a second game on Suicidal when I'm quitting the game just because one of the AI's is building Carriers with ridiculously OP small assault fighters. The only counter is Carriers and as no other AI is building them, they won the game the moment they started building them (even though they were clearly going down at the time). Obviously I can start building them myself but it makes the game rather one dimensional i.e. everyone shou

The most noticeable dumb things I see from the AI are: 1. Building too many small fleets and/or don't prioritize logistics heavily enough. The AI seems to do this sometimes, though, but not consistently enough. 2. Sometimes being highly demanding diplomatically when it's massively behind. With respect to AI bonuses, I can't wait for the AI's FOW bonuses to be eliminated. I assume that includes their knowledge of the map at the start of the g

This needs to be revisited in the game itself by the development team. I agree with the OP and Osbot that it's completely unbalanced. While it's a single player game, balance is still important. At the moment Assault Fighters are the most powerful force in the game by a light year. Some stronger counters would work as well ... but there aren't any ... except to build them as well.

30 Replies 40,336 Views

I spoke too soon. The Drengin have started building Carriers. Carriers are completely and utterly broken balance wise. Everything else gets slaughtered when the "small" (instead of tiny) infinitely replaceable assault fighters are used. Looks like each fighter has about 200 attack total. A single Carrier defending a shipyard just took out my strongest fleet including the T.A.S. Crusader. Sigh.
