So, again, is DW worth the investment?
If you can bear Real-Time part - yes. I LOVE some game concepts there, but I'm too used to my slow TBSes, and whole RT thing annoys me too much. There are pause and ability to slow it down, but I still feel overwhelmed by amount of events and stuff I need to do. Automation is not so bad in exploration, trading and mining parts, but as for wars, diplomacy and expansion, you
Laid off or fired - I just wanted to give the news, that there seems to be a situation in stardock that leeds the managment to lay off/fire some of their game designers. I think that´s more interesting at the moment than to discuss the differences between two words (meaning something similar).
These "news" were already addressed by Brad in dev journals few days ago.
What are these people doing, and why are they willing to drop everything to join you, and once they do why are they infinitely loyal?
Well, world is barren and destroyed, so I believe they have nothing to 'drop' anyway. Since channelers are the only source of life and progress, its natural for people to gather around them. It would be natural for such champions to request wages or fiefs for their service, but fiefs concept would not be trivial to implement in EW

Horses should be at least gatherable for Empires and vise versa, so captured resource would not be THAT useless (so you could trade horses for gold/wargs for example). Kingdom/Empire-only resources are very annoying.

EWoM's art is one of few things which were done right, and it reflects setting quite well. There are some annoying clipping issues, and some weapons like bows do not work with some poses, but these things will be fixed sooner or later.

Say I have 5 cities grouped together with one large influence zone vs 5 cities each with their own individual, non-connected, influence zone....
2) There is a BIG learning curve. Those who were in beta at least get a feel for the dynamics, but it is still tough at times. Newbies have no tutorial and the game is certainly not a typical game. So they have no idea of how cities build, grow, what techs do etc.
I didn't participate in beta, and didn't read manual, figuring the game by trial and error (and I love to do so. Manuals are spoilers and should be forbidden).
1.07 came out today so the review of 1.06 is just like I said earlier. Pointless.
Oh really? So they smuggled proper magic, diverse factions, proper tactics, good AI and multiplayer in it w/out saying so in changelog? Today's patch does not address ANY of issues pointed out in the review, so its not 'pointless', its still 'spot on', and will be so for monthes, at least.
who's to say another dev doesn't step up next year and do better
Games are announced early. Usually, release date is apporimately known at least year before. And the fact that game is being worked on 2-3 years before release. I did not see any announcements of other fantasy 4X, and release schedule lists only 2 space 4X in whole 2011. No fantasy one there. So its quite safe to assume E:WoM is alone here for 2010/2011. And most likely, 2012.

Hard? This time I played VERY slowly, exploring all these notable locations and quests I've got in my zone of control. Basically, the only challenge you have is at the very beginning of the game. In all my games I've started next to other Empire, and had to kill him off in some first turn
Microprose
It does not exist since 2003. >copyright infringement Copyright DOES NOT cover concepts/features/spell effects. It covers art, text, and to some extent names. Art is old and useless, and text/names are not that big deal for SD, I'm sure they are capable of inventing their own. To 'protect' a feature/concept/effect, you need a patent, which is too late to file now. Plus, any evidence of same thing existing before your
