Mods, schmods. There's a 'silent majority' of unknown size out there who care only about the base game, and hopefully its updates.
I'm not disagreeing with you - but it is my understanding that since its inception Elemental was intended to be a mod-zilla of a game. Seeing some past interviews with BW it almost seems like he has been more excited about the potential user created content than the original stuff (certainly th

But it does mean that from a project manager standpoint if those decisions have to be made something has gone wrong. A mistake was made that will cost the company one way or the other because the design was to ambitious. It would have been so much better if the designer would have done a speced a design that did fit into

Ability for custom buildings tied to terrain type, and city-level-up choices tied to terrain type would be a bounty for mod ideas even if SD doesn't want to use it themselves.

Here's some changes I noticed: 1. (Tactical) AI focuses attacks on a single unit, purposely depleting counter-attacks. Archers focus on weaker units. 2. (Stategic) AI moves more units into their city when an enemy army approaches. 3. Can no longer zoom in on character models, they disappear when very close. 4. Alt-tabbing in takes a really long time now. 5. Swords crossed icon beside power rating of factions you are at war with. It's a littl

I hope we'll wind up with an Ultimate-ish version of Elemental as well, and not just separate, divergent paths from the mediocre main game.
You raise a good point. It remains to be seen in what way they

I would like to see at least some city consequence based on the surrounding terrain... I realize that terrain can be altered and that's fine, but I think the terrain spells should be much costlier and have more options like creating forests, swamps, deserts, jungles, grasslands, steppe, canyons, and unique bonuses/penalties for each one. That way it would be advantageous to select certain city types depending on your strategy, especially in the early game making it crucial to decide which ter

He pledged that there would be no new game next year (meaning 2011), and that he would make things right. Even though FE is a branch of Elemental, it is not Elemental, and FE sounds dangerously close to a new game.
So??? Does this affect you on a moral level? I think it's fine there won't be explorable dungeons, in fact I think it's a really good sign there's a post explaining this one simple exclusion. Makes me optimistic about everything else that will be added! If it's easy to add for modding though, then the ability to switch to different maps could be useful... imagine a fire/earth/air/water plane that is explorable. I guess that's not really a dungeon though, that's just a regular overland map. I suppose dungeon maps would have to be like ta

For balance, champions need more health and dodge, not more armor.
The problem as I see it, is that each time you step one tier up in armour, you easily outclass the last tier of weapon. If attack rating is equal to defence rating, it should be about 5-6 good solid hits to drain HP, (not saying it does work like this). There should be no real point-of-in

If you discover a quest that you aren't ready for, you should simply get your butt kicked when you try it, ala Master of Magic... "You see DEATH KNIGHTS guarding the ruin". The idea that you don't have the questing 'know-how' makes no fictional sense. It's just way too gamey. That whole questing tree should just be scrapped. It breaks the cohesion of

I don't think SD has anything against upgrading, it just wasn't added, like a lot of other features. I completely agree with all stated sentiments, whether it is an equipment swap like that for champions, or re-training through the city queue. I am constantly disbanding obsolete units with lvl 5 or 6 experience. Such a shame. I think a global equipment locker would be in order, that's sometimes called an armoury. Gilden actually took a well defended town from me. I had a 12 long bow archer unit, with magic items, and master armor on, a well armed champ and a 12 stack of shrills and the AI was able to defeat it. Now, I did auto battle, so that might have been an issue, but they were able to take it, I was impressed.&n

no but that could change... plus with any luck every square inch of ground wont be inside a city's ZOC after the next update. It doesn't have to be claiming ground, it could be 1 of each element shard, plus a major spell of preparation for each one, then it would have at least 4 parts, and possibly 5 if you include the spell that ties them all together. oh you're talking about them getting into your turtle zone, yeah they could use boats... or the spells could b

Both ways give no indication that you are about to lose. Good point.
