Quality. I play DL only, and it's rather dull to see my destroyer types maul one Iconian or Torian fleet after another without hardly losing a ship (both create scads of 'peashooters'). I play as the Yor (for the mini bonus amongst other things) and I can pack a LOT of firepower on a small hull. Early in the game, you don't need much defense as weapon atk values are small. As the game progresses and atk values begin to climb, it pays to increase defense. But at some po

Well, I let the "so-and-so has uncovered an ancient artifact that grants them nearly unlimited power" event stand in my last two games to see what would happen. I know it's only two examples, but I saw enough to convince me it unbalances the game. Not so much for a well prepared player, but for every other faction around the recipient of this bonus. Both times the civ getting the boost, wiped out its' neighbors in short order, going from mid to lower in the rankings, to number two (be

The last couple of campaigns as the Yor (DL) have quite altered my opinion of minor races. Like most, I've just used them as punching bags to grab a few high PQ planets. The campaign before my last one, I'd been tech-trading with the Dark Yor, and sending them my obsolete ships to help them fight a potential enemy of mine. When I got the option to have them as allies, I figured, what the hell, I'll give it a go.....HOLY S***! I gave them several high-level te

You know, the game devs could have really made the "Space Tears" a really cool thing. I've seen topics that put part of the galciv history in games like Starflight and Star Control, both of which I played considerably. The cool thing I was referring to was the worm-hole feature in Starflight that allowed you to "jump" from one area of the galaxy to another. You could even map them out and plan several 'jumps' to get where you were going. It certainly would take the s

Well, like I stated in my original post about them, I was looking for the Skywalker option 'cuz these guys were definitely Vader types. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]

No...they were definitely in the Mega-Pirate class. Playing as the Terrans, at the time, I was the galaxy's tech leader. Now maybe it was some sort of in-game glitch, but they just destroyed all my fleets within range plus all of my starbases, moved to my borders' edge, and simply stayed there...not doing anything else or attacking any other race. As I've said, I've had to fight pirates since then...some quite tough but certainly killable, unlike

Not a balls-breaker if they treat all civs as enemies. In my game, they trashed all of my fleets and starbases, moved to the edge of my territory...and stayed there! Meanwhile, my enemies were pouring over my now defenseless borders and although my planets could've resisted several attempts at occupation, the writing was on the wall, so I started a new game. I've had pirates appear in subsequent games varying in strength from pushovers to tough, but at least I could deal with

Don't get me wrong...I enjoy most of the 'mega-events' but there are a few that unbalance or downright ruin a game. I had a similar "Mega-Pirates" event once, and they were even nastier than the ones you describe. Lost every single ship I had. I just reload a previous save if pirates appear that are considerably more teched-up than me. I also don't permit the "God-mode" where one civ finds some Precursor artifact that allows them to become ruler of the universe i

I've read through dozens of threads about the econ system in DL and came to the conclusion that I didn't need the headaches (and don't have a degree in econ and statistics) to try and understand how it works. I spent the first several campaigns going broke and chucking the game to the recycle bin. But...determined to not let a game get the best of me, I kept trying. First, I became a trade baron. Maximized my # of routes, and built as many econ starbases along them as I co

Galactic Peace my a**...the Arceans were on an expansion binge at that moment, beating up on a couple of their hapless neighbors. I guess they just wanted to attempt some scare tactics to add to their war chest.

I'm going to try this (leaving the UP) at least once to see how it works. I've gotten to the point of having my economy be self-sufficient outside of trade, so the loss of trade with 'majors' won't hurt me as much as it will them. Off-hand, I would suspect that you should be able to trade with minors....they aren't included in the UP [e digicons]o_O[/e]

I do have to laugh at some of the demands. Someone gets a few p***-ant one-shot wonders built, and suddenly they're a galactic superpower. A half dozen turns later, when I have a few hulls of my own in orbit, the same race is offering ME money to keep the peace. Funny stuff........

Having multiple trade routes with someone is a BIG plus. I've found that just giving techs or money is not enough. Alignment plays a part, although not as big as other factors. And yes, you cannot form an alliance until you get to "Close" relations. Your level of Diplomacy has an effect, as well. I too, was puzzled at not being able to get alliances when I first started playing, but it was suggested to me to raise my diplomacy skill and that certainly helped.

IIRC, first you must research Xeno Engineering, and then Planetary Improvements. In any case, these should be the first two techs you research anyways..............

I would rely less on trade as the game progresses, and races get eliminated, especially if you have no alliances. When I first started playing, I relied heavily on trade routes...built econ starbases all along them to max out the income. But I found that I could not cover expenses and turn a profit without the trade income...a bad idea when everyone turns against you. Now, I make sure I boost population high enough, build a number of stock markets, and increase my influence to

To me, the whole system of ship design is not very intuitive. The first time through is a no-brainer....design ships as you reach certain benchmarks on the tech tree. But on subsequent playthrough's with the same race, it's rather annoying to have to paw through the tech tree to see what will be available when. Yes, I know that when you select a tech to research, the box on the upper right will tell you what that unlocks and what other techs you might need. But....I want to know what

I've played a couple dozen campaigns now(DL), and up to this point minor races have always been punching bags for the 'majors'..........until now. The Andians not only had several very large and powerful fleets, they actually invaded and captured planets. Never seen that up to now. Is this just a quirk, or does this happen in anyone elses campaign's? It's refreshing to see, and made for a scramble to create fleets to counter them...and with a 366Pt. defense for a 7-ship fleet, I had t

"What I don't know is whether or not a race that conquers the planet with the trade good can then offer it for trade." I can answer that one. Yes. In my current campaign, I've captured a planet that had a TG built by another race...Diplomatic Translators. I got the +25% diplomatic increase, and I could use it during trading.

6 Replies 7,225 Views

I was referring more to a race that you barter a TG, who then get eliminated. I suppose an additional question might be, can that race barter the TG to someone else? It would make more sense that they couldn't, as it would seem you'd need the source planet for the TG to be able to do that. So if the effects are global, then building both Ultra Spices (+15% Morale) and Virtual Reality Modules (+12% Morale) should give a galaxy-wide boost to your morale by 27%, right?

6 Replies 7,225 Views

I've asked this question before, and haven't gotten a response (and the search function for the forum seems to be broken) so I'll ask again.... If you barter trade goods to another race, and they get taken over, do the trade goods transfer to the conquering race? In addition, is there a list of which TG's have a global effect and which effect only the planet they are developed on?

In a recent game(DL), I had a very unique demand for money put to me by the Arceans early in the game. Lord Vega claimed to be on a mission for galactic peace, and would I please authorize a transfer of 1500bc to their account. [e digicons]*_*[/e] Yeah....right! I did, however, LMAO....... Anyone else had such a 'unique' demand....err request for money?

Does the reseach rate affect only the player, or does it apply to every race you include in your game? I've read through the entire wiki site for galciv, and quite a few others, as well as the 'manual' but can't find a definitive answer. I can't seem to get the search function for this forum to work properly, so please excuse if there's already a topic here that covers this. Thanx.

One of the most annoying features for me is the constant need to build constructors. I suppose the idea, as designed, is that the constructor uses itself for the parts in building, but this is counter-intuitive, IMHO. I would have preferred a system that would incorporate a contructor-module upgrade [considering the bloated nature of the tech tree, what's a few more...;)]. Each constructor module is capable of a certain amount of work...the better the module, the more work that can be

. Well, these definitely fell into the "mega pirates" class. Thing is, they didn't have Atk/Def numbers much better than me, and we both had the same armaments and defense, though their photon torp level was a couple ahead of mine. While I certainly didn't expect to get off without some losses, losing 48 heavy frigates without hardly making a dent was rather unreal. Chalk one up for Vader, I guess ;) As far as pursuing alliances are concerned, it s
