On inverse difficulty of allies. Note I only said "A suicidal difficulty should have incredible opponents and dumb allies." I didn't mean an easy game should have incredible allies. You can in fact make the switch to normal: If below normal, allies are standard, over, they are inverted.Trading techs between teammates shouldn't be cheap. It should be automatic and free.Again, I want to stress that I like teh expansion, not that I like it 'a lot'. It would get 7 in 10, not 9 or 10/10.[/quot

Brad, I mentioned the balance issues in the campaign feedback before (4/18) in the feedback thread although I don't think I was as explicit as I could have been regarding my feeling about the inverse difficulty being the root cause. It also wasn't until I played around some more with the difficulty that I really became convinced that it was the main problem. You initially designed these maps as 'fair and balanced' but you actually screw yourself by going easier than normal (your so-called allies
These aren't little "mod" stuff here. These are major changes that will let you get vastly more replayability.
Depends on what you found appealing about GC to begin with. I *like* the random, open game. From my perspective, what I get for the most part from AP is improved AI and the promise of continued support at a time when base GC is about to stop being tweaked. The new techs and buildings could be a mod. The new ships can't perfectly be recreated but like everything
A 'neutral' choice would have been much better. I think the improvements to the AI are nice but, overall, I am very underwhelmed by the new features. Most of the features are nothing more than something that could have been added as a mod to base gal-civ (and I expect that someone will wind up doing just that). The campaign is extremely clumsy and far from ready for public release in my opinion. Scenarios may or may not prove to be a great thing in the future with the mod community but it's too
Still unable to submit Alliance victories, nothing like needing to go back and spend an additional 3 hours on a game to win it militarily, oh wheee :notsure: Also had Korx using Terran Deathknight graphics unless I went temporarily blind.
v1.49N[rc].002 - Just finished exploring the map - there are no minor races
You know, in 3 games I've started since the "release candidate" came out I haven't seen a single minor. And while I'm sure this doesn't qualify as a bug, the lack of graphics on things like the summary screen for the new races doesn't exactly scream "done".
Another text bug: at the end of mission 8 you have the phrase "there was once beings" as opposed to "there were once beings".
I'm still seeing "string not found" for some alignments with aliens with this "release candidate". I'll save the observations on how shocked I am that this is a release candidate for somewhere else.
OK, after having a chance to calm down and try mission 7 at normal, there is definitely some tweaking needed. At challenging, I found it impossible, one notch down it was a cakewalk. I don't know what changes exactly between the difficulties on the campaign and how that interacts with the maps, but this one could stand a bit of balancing for the public release.
I don't know if you re-tweaked it or everyone else is just smarter than I am, but I'm finding mission 7 to be nothing more than an exercise in frustration. I've retweaked my starting bonuses multiple times, outraced the AI to the inhabitable systems, pared my research tree to bee-lines for very specific and mission beneficial techs, re-tooled my entire standard build order for planetary development, and so on, and in this latest try I'm just *barely* hanging on and I think I'm about to see the s
I definitely look forward to seeing 3rd party candidates supported. It may be years or even decades before we dismantle the two party domination in real world politics but it would be nice if this libertarian could at least rule the world in a video game
I'm on my 3rd year of subscribing to OD, I've renewed the past 2 years under the notion that somewhere something *new* would come along as part of the sub only software that would make it worth not letting the sub expire. "Wow, check that out, Desktop Aquarium, well, it's a neat toy, let's give it a go..." >>>> Pony up $8 if you want to even see it in action Can I just say WTF? I've paid $120 for continued support of the exact same software that I purchased over 2
Diminishing returns or a cap limit, the range is too damn much micromanagement. OTOH, a limit 1 also has its appeal if module balance is relooked at.
Direct, but that's semi-irrelevant since I have Drengin.net. I wish there was more support from people to drop a little more cash on this game as the "Expanded Universe" wound up being not-so-expanded. I'm guessing the budget for this game is mostly shot. Not only did earlier promised feature (linked events) never make their way, even things mentioned in beta read-mes never materialized (the Deathknight's good counterpart as an example). On the one hand, not that big a deal as I got my
Mine varies both by mood and game circumstance (which is why I'm Neutral in the metaverse even though I've only got a game or two that I was actually Neutral). Both paths have their benefits but the thing that makes good such a bitch is how hard it is to get you alignment high enough for some of the really nice benefits (e.g. trade centers) versus evil.
I don't whether to be glad or sad that I got a 35% Major Geek rating :notsure:
Hadn't thought about the lower scores, but I looked, and, yep, the last time I had a score lower than the one I submitted yesterday was the 1.04 era. Hmmm... ----------------- Is anyone else observing the Yor doing much better in the 1.09x series? They've been in the forefront in the 3 games I've played which is unprecedented.
I'm not familiar with the Uplink port, but the past explanation for why it is very unlikely is that GalCiv was coded as a 100% DirectX game. It's always a possibility, particularly if some other company does all the work and Stardock just gets to collect their slice of the finished pie, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
The metaverse is multiplayer... if you want to just play for yourself then why join the metaverse...
Competition, yes, banter, no. Look, I'm glad that people have fun with the empire interaction, it's just not why I started the empire or why I continue to play the game. In fact, why I started the empire is largely irrelevant at this point anyhow (as my internet "home" turned out to be a bunch of RTS junkies >:( ). Besides, the subtleness can be appealin
I've seen the 'continually wax stronger' event bite me in the arse once. The Arceans got it and I was allied with them so I figured I was safe. Well, they got to be the biggest kids on the block, betrayed me, and proceeded to wipe me out :SURPRISED:
The Space Arachnids are just what they are: an invert themed empire that manages to be consistently in the top 10 with a fraction of the members and none of the babble and hype of the others. Maybe I'm a curmudgeon at heart, but I don't see the appeal in grown men wasting time bantering about how they're playing a single player video game. So, there's my pitch: if you want to be in a top 10 empire without feeling like you need to be in here engaging in pointless roll playing an
Culture is not too strong. Culture is too easy to pursue relative the AI. The AI needs to be tweaked to actually build more culture boosters of their own rather than just continually nerfing it until we are playing with rubber knives against them.
The esc button seems to do that for me
Actually, that only does a subset of the 'default enter' type keys, and has the other effect of taking you to the options menu. The UI for GalCiv is among the worst, no, it is the worst of any game I've played in the past three years. It's not that it's not useable, but there's way too many things you have to use the mouse for that should be hotkeyed, and things that are hotkeyed that make little sense to have hotkeyed, and
Yes it would take a lot of resources but the profit would be equally as great. It would take a lot of work to make it multiplayer but galcivs really isn't that much "RAM required" anyway. While they are at it they can give galcivs some new single player features as well.
Whew, are you done yet so I can wipe the tears from my eyes from laughing? You, first off, have no idea what anyone in this thread or the others that were pointed out to you mean by resources. We
