Yeah, I'm not sure how I want the AI to behave. Is it better if it behaves realistically and hands over the SB because you can just take it? Or is it actually providing a game challenge by being obstinate? I had a similar situation with a resource SB and Yor. I had just finished beating their asses soundly a few months before and realised that I forgot to take that resource before I made peace, "So give it to me, I'll even pay you some good money for it along with some techs..." <br

Za H, that's a good way of putting it. The AI seems to run about like a horde of rioters shooting your SBs and freighters, but when you come marching into their sectors with a stack of dreads, they'll still be over in your territory trying largely ineffective guerilla tactics while your prepare to move a whole armored column right into the middle of town square.

Um, to all the people saying how this works best on SDC, why coudn't SDC just use the intergrated IE browser for a genuine web based software package? It doesn't pull you out of using SDC if you for some reason like using that as your forum/newsreader and it lets these forums enter the 21st century.

Dave, that sounds good, but it's not the case at all, or have you somehow missed the posts about how particular mods actually crash the game or flat out don't work without you making some data file changes yourself? They are supposed to be doing what you describe sometime this week but currently all being in the library is indicative of is that a Stardock emp scanned it for viruses and put it up.

That's not an idea, that's a suggestion (that's not going to happen) that's been argued since the beta and is still being argued. Brad believes (and I agree) that being able to cancel tribute with war lends itself to more cheesey tactics than having it continue. Think of it as tribute is handled by some sort of Galactic Bank escrow system which doesn't see a differ

"I said 'Hell No' and everything went back to normal." Well, almost, it happened again when the Torians tried to invade the Yor, an evil little genie popped up on my shoulder and made me stop them :D After a CTD for unknown reasons later on the magic ability to control the Torians' war mongering seems to have disappeared.

I just had an interesting one I'll call the "identity crisis". I was in a massive war with the Altarians and Torians and we had all essentially managed to bomb our civs back into the stoneage so I made peace arrangements with both civs. During the auto-move portion of the following turn I got the dialogue for a Torian Combat Transport that had been set on an auto-route to invade my planet: Invasion of the _Terran Alliance's_ Kwilas system will be seen as an act of war. Do you w

"I don't think people who have only played 3 games on Fool AI levels should be making global comments about what should or shouldn't be nerfed in the game." Well, his first issue is a genuine bug in the game. Money doesn't just appear from ghost civilizations. The second complaint will be dealt with very shortly as it is a failing in the AI. The bit about breaking treaties is a misunderstanding of the game mechanics: there is no time involved in a peace/attack treaty.

I don't think they're *nerfing* anything about human-AI deals. They are trying to, one, get the AI to trade with other AIs more aggressively and, two, get it to stop going for every deal you offer it if it's going to drive them into bankruptcy. That's not a nerf, that's just improving the AI.

Define where clearly imbalanced starts then? ;) For instance, let's say I design an event which has a chance to increase all your planets +1%, that's not "clearly imbalanced", right? Now, let's say I write the same event

Well, I do think you've got to give competitve 4X games the 2nd X because there is also an eXploration phase. Other than that, I agree completely about that assessment of the genre for competitive play. Cooperative play against the AIs is more fun,

No, but then I've not seen any evidence of much AI-AI dealing before T15, either. Sorry, but I've had no problems of the sort you describe so whatever issue is going on is your playstyle, your diplomatic ability, or alignment issues, not some deliberate "cheat" of the AI.

"Are all the ones in the library approved?" Nope, and therein lies the problem. Right now you can submit anything you like and it immediately shows up for download. Brad has said he plans to split the library into official/approved and unofficial/not-approved sections which will hopefully clear up some of the confusion. Maybe then he can take the time while he's at it to actually clarify what is metaverse acceptable and what isn't.

Thongor, I would guess your playstyle has more to do with this than any "cheat" in the AI. I often try the diplomatic approach - high dip ability, peaceful behavior - and I find the exact opposite of you, AIs will make deals with me that they would never make with one another because of their relation status.

Yes, before dreads, I typically garrison each planet with 2 BHammers & 2 BAxes. I haven't seen the AI punch through this yet - they're both cheap enough that I can replace anything that gets destroyed and I'm never *that* far behind any of the AIs that come a knockin'. Plus, since they're also good on offense, they work well for smacking any transports or lighter ships on my turn before ducking back into orbit :) Of coure, if the AI started using BHammers more, that would really make pl

"Monkey: Why are you so hyped?" Because for some reason I am unable to ignore these threads and I've seen the exact same set of threads for every single *dedicated* singleplayer game ever made in the past seven years. If there was something new to discuss, my grumpiness over the issue might be less, but there isn't. Whether or not MP should have been in this game initially is a potential subject for discussion, whether it should be added given both the logistics and the developer's inte

I have to go with the "This forum softare blows" crowd here. I'm a big fan of vBulletin myself for what it can do. It's not bad, the game gods knows I've seen far worse software used by game companies, but other than that it's graphically pretty and lets Brad insert company proprietary widgets like our Metaverse icons, it has nothing going for it.

My pondering for the day: Why is it that when I can remember Brad stating very clearly a year ago (or maybe even longer) that there would be NO multiplayer ever for the game, do people who apparently consider it an important game feature then buy the game? Moreso, when the company CEO & lead designer for the game says that he never had any intention of putting MP into it and never will, do people make statements like "I'd just be happy with a hotseat option"? If you want m

I think I already made in the first few posts in this thread: clear guidelines from the game creators themselves. Brad has mentioned that sometime this week the library will be split into official and unofficial mods, but other than some very vagued up descriptions of truly outlandish mods, he still hasn't bothered to clarify what is allowed and what is not. My personal feeling is that if it's not an official mod and it changes anything other than the cosmetics of the game (graphics and

"While I appreciate your response, I wish you could express it in a more constructive manner. I disagree that it's "lame". It's simple, it' fair, and it's equitable. If you'll recall, the concern was managing what's fair for submitting scores to the Metaverse, not ensuring the quality of mods submitted to the web site." Sorry if you thought that wasn't constructive, but the "everybody has access to it" is the same sort of stuff that has athletes feeling the need for steroids, or why in

"I think the guideline to fairness could be very simple. If it's posted in the official library, it's okay. Everyone has access to use it or not. A simple guideline, fair and equitable." Since there's no actual checking of what gets hosted here, that's a pretty lame method of deciding. By your logic if someone posts an event tomorrow that gives you a chance to double the PQ of all your planets, hey, that's fine because we could all download the obviously broken mod.
