I may have glossed over that illustration too quickly, as I don't remember reading the image's tags before. I'll blame it on my cheaters; they aren't doing their job so well anymore, and it's been easier to increase font s
you'll want to save as a png to maintain the alpha channel integrity in the temppngs file folder. (sks will convert this to a tga). although your initial layer is transparent, when saved as anything other than a psd, the transparency will probably go to a solid color (usually white).
If I save my PSD as a PNG, the checkered background (indicating transparency) is maintained. I think the same is true if I save it as a TGA.&n

I used to have PSP on my machine, but it became outdated when I bought a used copy of PS7 on eBay years ago. I only recently upgraded from that, but yes, I think they are similar enough. You're a little over my head, though I think my son knows what you're talking about (he's asleep...don't think I should waken him to ask, might not get a coherent answer anyway) when you ask about having already made the alpha channel. The background of this image is transpar
Thanks; fixed and tested the link. Here is my start menu. It's what I need help figuring out where to make my slices. This image is somewhat reduced from the original PSD. Thanks for looking! peace,
Hello, all; I've been reading this forum for a while, and have been studying the excellent tutorial found here . I'm on p. 5 at the part where the author talks about slicing the start menu for reassembly in SS. My start menu isn't exactly square like the illustrated one is, so I'm not very sure about how to go about slicing it. Is it safe to publish an image here of a work in p
I've been searching the web for some time now, looking for the Windows skin linked above. From the page to which that .jpeg is linked, "Mike Bryant emerged in 2002 as one of the top skinners. His Colony skin was actually an entire suite (i.e. WinStyles ). This was one of the general trends of 2002 though that top skin authors began to work on creating suites that cre
Thank you for those tips, navigatsio ! You both have given me information that I wasn't able to find out there on the www. I suspect that this thread will be visited again in the future, though. There are some really beautiful Aston2 skins, and I don't think they will long be supported. I'll try to keep this thread updated with new questions
Heya, RedneckDude; Long time, no speak! Yeah, I have the original skin on Windows XP; used Aston2 to do that. You did give me a clue, though. If I can import the individual parts into SKS, and use SKS to build a brand new skin, I'd only want the original graphics as a sort of guide to know where things go, and how they are made and work. Gonna give that a shot. Thanks for the idea! Peace, Mally
Hi, all; I downloaded and fell in love with the general feel of a theme made by Aston2. I haven't found a way yet to load it in SkinStudio. I intend to completely rebuild it, including all possible apps, buttons, my own new graphics, etc. Aston2 primarily replaces the Windows XP (in my case) shell. By changing the Aston2 native file extension .a2theme to .zip, I can use PowerArchiver to see and
Thanks much everyone for your warm welcome! I'll be back. Peace, Mally
I'm sorry to anyone who was caught off guard, or offended by my post. It wasn't intended to be spam to your group. My first post tried to describe what I was looking for, and in it, I did say I didn't even remember it's format As some of your have surmised, this is my first venture into skinning Windows, but not into graphics in general. I recently had the file, lost it, and asked here for help in it's identification. As a way to concl
Yeehaa! I found it. Look here .
Hey, Snowman; thanks for the reply. It's not the one I was looking for, but I like it really well. I downloaded it. It also looks like a new source for looking for the one I'm hunting. Thanks again, man, and good luck with your shrooms, whatever kind is your preference.
I wish I could remember. To top it off I'm fairly regular about clearing space on my HD, and CClean takes my download history. In all these years I've never needed it before. It would seem I used it since downloading that file.
Hi, all; Within the last week, I downloaded a skin that I fell in love with. I eventually obtained a trial copy of software that would open it, but that process took several tries. Finally, though, I did open it. Now, I don't remember which of those new apps opened it, nor what it was called, nor even it's file format except that it was new to me, and not a psf. Let me try to describe it. It was kind of a steampunk theme with dark turquoise, dar
I was thinking along those lines, Xiandi, but your specifics about blending 'magic pink' will be of great help. Thanks so much for having taken the time to reply. Your answer couldn't have been more thorough.
Wow, what a clearly written, easy to follow, easy to read tut! Thank you very much for taking the time to write it. I can't believe it's not received any comments in so long. I do have a question, though. Both you and voidcore are using a technique in PS that confuses me a bit. From the beginning illustration 'original 1920 x
