"I see you too are having a hard time putting "what is galciv?" into clear language." GalCiv is a fun Space 4X with a minmal but intriguing empire management and a map that focuses on distance as a strategic factor. Ships are designed according to researched technologies and displayed in entertaining cinematic battles. The AI has been polished to provide a consistently engaging long term game. Technical game features

They should put in a placeholder achievement "Participated in the Alpha Test". It would get permanently disabled upon Beta stage and we Elite Founders could feel even more Elite! Maybe even make a Beta achievement, too.
The technology ages seemed like a good balancing mechanism to me, but I was a little unsure they were the best answer. Listening to the arguments pro and con, I am more and more convinced they are a good idea.
Any peeks available for ship movement without the wiggle? Just hoping for a view of ship moving majestically and smoothly through space, at least as a teaser.
This is another person looking for a GalCiv 2.5 more than a brand new game. I don't want something that "feels" significantly different. The word "feels" is obviously subjective. Some examples from my subjective point of view. Tactical battles would make it a different game for me. Different in a bad way since I do not like tactical space battles at all. The adjacency bonus is a good example of something that looks intriguing yet simple and will a
I see the simplified tech tree as vulnerable to abuse, the kind that makes it less fun, not more. The Planetary Invasion example is just that, an example. It feels like there will be others that clever players will find. The hard cap on the progression of ages makes sense to me. And it is not as hard cap as I expected. Only requiring a percentage of techs makes it feel much less limiting to me. It does conceptualize the overall progress needed for a
GalCiv 2 has been reported several times as running on Windows 8.1. You should have no problems.
I have a situation where attacks do not seem to do anything. Each time I acknowledge the battle popup, it just goes back to the map, or to the next battle popup. This is when I am attacking and I am defending. Is this something seen before? If not, I will submit the usual ticket to support. If so, let me know if you want additional info or not.
That was as sincere as the Gaza peace talks. Lol Really erichild you may have just put an half hour or more into this post when the devs said they won't do it. Its way easier and funnier to put five minutes into making funny little sarcastic comments like I'm doing now. DARCA.
I have visions of Gaza peace talk diplomats discussing 3D space warfare in earnest tones and multiple accents.
Please keep your "brutal honesty" to yourself. I insist on at least an attempt at civility from my children, let alone from supposedly intelligent adults. People on the internet seem to think that "honesty" and "courtesy" are mutually exclusive. Other people on the internet seem to think that "courtesy" is conversational weakness. Neither is true. If some sort of mutual courtesy is impossible between us, then it is impossible for us to converse.
Blistering reply deleted. Not worth it. If you really want to talk about it, start another thread and I will try to respond. I will disagree with you on many points, but we could try. Otherwise, I have to conclude you came here itching for a fight and are satisfied with the results.
"List all the Problems that you think 3d woudl rise :" I find your posting style aggressive and dismissive of other people's stance starting with the OP I think this leads to the level of aggressive response you have elicited. Calm down your original input so it isn't a declaration of a war of concepts and you may receive less aggressive responses. Maybe not less passionate on this subject, but less personally aggressive. You reap what you sow
"List all the Problems that you think 3d woudl rise :" I find your posting style aggressive and dismissive of other people's stance starting with the OP. You declare yourself as knowing more about gaming than I ever will. That may be true, but it is only a rude boast, not a reason to be listened to. I have no problem with the level of aggressive response you have elicited. Calm down your original input so it isn't a declaration of a war of concepts and
Population Trading I'll trade you three Drengins for two Altarians and a young Human. Oh, that wasn't what you meant. Why does the spell checker not recognize "Drengins" and "Altarians" but does recognize "Human"? Is that right? Otherwise, it still sounds simpler to put a bunch of people in a throw-away transport that you sell when you got there. If you invested in engines, they wou
They talked in the dev stream about the "no grid outside your territory" feature. I like it. I turned it on immediately when I found it. I also like being able to turn the grid off entirely with ctrl-G
I am working on building a build list on the planet. I create a long list of improvements, more than the displayed length. I need to change something that is now at the very end. The wheel scroll on the list is very slow. It feels like a scaling number set low somewhere. If I pick up an improvement to move it further up the list, I cannot get the list to scroll up to the front again. I need an up/down edge scroll on build lists. I wen
I don't know about anyone else, but I always found it extremely cheesy that a lone fighter could take out the Death Star. It looks great and feels entertaining, but does not convince me. It's just another reason not to use movies instead of physics to talk science fiction. I find star fighter vs capitol ship unconvincing at best. So, since convincing narrative is more important than scientific accuracy, I ask that the combat system not allow an
I have no problem with the forum. I have a 1928x1200 screen, but I agree with your points on fonts in game. The issue can only be worse on your screen.
Tried the campaign when I first got GC2. Ran into a level early that the Dread Lords just killed me every time. Gave up. Tried it again some time later, thinking I was better at the game. Got killed again. Repeatedly. Haven't gone back. I am not fond of campaigns in the first place. This one didn't change my mind. I will keep playing in the sandbox and being very happy with it. Got a shovel I could borrow?
Looks great! I like original designs even more than brilliant replications. Makes me want to see it with accompanying fighters for a sense of scale and awesomeness. It increases my desire to have a feature in the Ship Designer that does display of things like weapons fire. With sound effects.
I can sympathize if you do not find playing an Alpha fun. It is a special kind of fun that many do not appreciate. I cannot really sympathize that you did not know what you were getting into. All materials I have seen have made it amply clear what this package is and will be. Repeatedly. If you do not find fun in playing with Alphas and testing and breaking things, then this was not the package for you and you should not have bought it. The best I can advis
This is another vote for hexes. Hexes worked great for me in table top strategy games long before there were computer strategy games. I always wondered why they become squares on computers. As someone said above, "Why change what isn't broken?" As far as I am concerned, they changed it to squares to accommodate lazy programmers. I am so glad that gaming is finally un-fixing what was never broken by returning to hexes. </p
This is offered as an argument/plea for design-your-own-starport. It is named "Orbiter". It is also an attempt to do complexity through simplicity. There are 6 total parts to the ship. A Cargo starter, where the ship under construction would go, and five copies of an Altarian part. The copies were sized and nested into a set of concentric rings making a disk. Each ring was then given a set of rotations based on primes and experimentation. The overall
LAst week I tuned in and immediately got hammered with work calls. Grrr, So, I submit something in advance and hope I make it for answers. In the ship builder, can I get a display only function? I want a background and no UI so as to take screenshots. I want a set of commands to make it do impressive fly by maneuvers, sometimes with weapons blazing. I want a "fleet" option that fills the screen with multiple copies of the ship all moving together in uniso
