I would hope it goes a cold war route over a 2 hour war (although that number could be off, I made it up, the point is really short nuclear mess). But then again, I'd hope it doesn't get to any war, not that that is terrible likely considering human history...

Sounds to me like your wanting to do it but understandable scared. If you'd have to wait until summer for the surgery you could make the appointment now and spend the time coming to terms with your fears. Or not, its your body, it's your choice.

Easthem, Westhem? American Empire, Middle Kingdom? I would be surprised if Canada took any real sides. Sure, they might want to side against us, but I don't see them doing anything formal. I've actually read some stories that were based off this theory. They tended to go with the us losing alaska, most of canada (i know it's not part of the us but it still got conquered), and the west coast.
