Reply #4 above is right. Trying to get a laptop to do both well and you'll end up with one that is okay overall, but excels at neither. I'd like a 250hp sports car that gets the milage of a Prius and handles the snow like a Hummer.

I like the idea of a science module used on ships, maybe a special type of ship that can be grouped with a fleet of battle ships. During the battle this science vessel could add an "adaptive" bonus to the other ships in the fleet. Then, after the battle, if it survives, it could do a little analysis of the wreckage and maybe uncover a little tech, or maybe just provide partial credit to researching a tech. The partial credit seems like a good idea since it will keep this from becoming too unbala

Given the types of weapons and defenses in GalCiv, tactical battles won't add much to game play, in my opinion. The A.I. basically focuses firepower on the weakest ship until destroyed, rinse, repeat. Not much you can do to improve tactically. There are no topigraphical considerations as in say, a civil war battle game. It's open space, so you shoot and shoot until something goes blewwy. You may be harkening back to the tactical battles in Moo2, which were a lot of fun. The main differe

Here is my advice: If you are looking for a high end laptop then that means you have some galactic credits to spend, which is a good thing. The problem is that a good high end gaming laptop is going to suck up a lot of juice(forget about long battery life) be rather bulkly and heavy (forget about toting it around easily) and make you extreemly nervous about carrying it around getting bumped, jostled, breathed on too hard, or (god forbid) stolen. I suggest you get a decent desktop system for gami

I don't know if there is an optimized strategy for building factories in the mid-late game phase. It will depend on how much of your current production capacity you can afford to use. If you are building a high level industrial sector but only using 30% of it, then you are wasting time and money. On the otherhand, you may need top notch industry to build up a planet in a hurry for tactical reasons. It also depends on what you are planning to do with the planet, i.e., crank out capital ships or b

This thread is great and all, and I'm sure the devs have a hoot reading it. But one thing we have to keep in mind: What makes this game so great is that the AI plays with the same "rules and tools" we do. When we add new complex diplomacy options, or tactical combat, etc., then that means they have to somehow program the AI to skillfully take advantage of these features as well. Otherwise the game would become unbalanced in favor of the human player, or they would have to code in some kind of ch

Diplomacy is always imortant for me. Keeps me out of scrapes when I can't afford one and helps me to sell my techs for more money, which I always seem to be running out of. Besides, they never see the backstab coming... heheheh

I have been away far too long. I felt a disturbance in the force and it compelled me to return. GalCiv II, was no doubt the cause. I feel that this could be the chosen one, the game destined to return balance to the force. I will take this game as my own and seek answers. I sense it will draw together many Jedis who once fought bravely together... and the dark foes that opposed us.
