In the first game I played I chose Creativity because it sounded cool. I noticed that I had access to the Benevolence and Cure for Depression techs that normally require an alignment score of 70, but my alignment was only 55 or so. I believe I also had access to some of the "evil" techs, but don't recall what they were (Xeno Manipulation?) off-hand.

Yes, there are many of us running GalCiv on machines lower than the "minimum" specs. At worst, you will only have trouble (i.e. slowdown) on the largest maps. Stick to the small or medium maps and you'll be fine. You can run the larger maps if you don't mind the slight slowdown between turns. I'm running it on a 550 MHz system and have no complaints. I have no idea why the box lists 600 MHz as minimum. ~SDC~

In my current game, the Yor are buried in a corner of the (small) galaxy with only two or three planets -- none exceptional. An event occured (discovering Precursor tech or somesuch) making one of their planets base 35. With their existing improvements, it became class 42 immediately. Now I'm worried that they're going to begin to dominate, so I'm trying to decide how to prepare...

This doesn't totally add up, but it's close: Total income = 1197 Govt Expenditures = 1197 * 53% = 634 So we're spending 634 on military, social, and reseach combined. Reseach = 634 * 41% = 260 (actual number is 276, why the difference?) Social = 634 * 18% = 114 (actual number is 94, why?) Miliary = 634 * 41% = 260 (actual number is 420 -- is ship maintenance included here? If so, that could account for this difference.)

Yes, Stardock will make more $$ off a direct purchase than a copy bought at a retailer, but think of this: if the retailer doesn't sell very many copies they may remove it from their shelves, hampering sales in the future. Additionally, it could also discourage them from stocking Stardock games in the future. Whereas if the opposite happened (i.e. retailers sold a ton) then it could make Stardock a respected name among retailers and could help with future game distribution. Just a thoug
