I almost always have a problem with overpopulation dragging down morale. Starting in mid game, with propaganda maxed for each planet, my morale drops considerably. I go first for social builds which increase morale in the beginning. I usually have 0 to 15% taxes to keep morale high, and even on 0, my morale will drop down to 50%, which is no guarantee to keep control of the senate. If I build a "morale booster" tech on a planet, the population will increase more, and my morale will drop back

Yeah, it seems a bit strange that the only way to raise morale is to get rid of your people. Logically, wouldn't that decrease morale, since people would start wondering where their family and neighbors are "really" going, and would wonder if they're next. Propaganda is a definite solution, but I think other techs should also be available that address over population. This could be underwater cities, underground cities, or just massive population control schemes such as China's "onl
Dearmad What's another solution? Please explain, enquiring minds want to know! ~SDC~
Bonuses do "stack", so yes, you would get more benefit from multiple star bases. I do believe, though, that there is a limit on how much "extra bonus" you can get though. 15 would be way too much I'm sure, but I can't say for sure what the limit is. I've done this with influence, built up and maxed 1 starbase, then built another and loaded it up. It works great! ~SDC~
Raise morale, and subsequently approval rating. Propaganda helps, but if a planet is overpopulated, morale will go down. I've noticed this is the #1 reason for a planet to lose morale, at least in my games! Build transports and load them up. When you move enough off the planet, morale will improve. You'll be going to war, so keep them around, otherwise sell them for tribute to friendly neighbors and make a buck. A Win-Win situation for you!! When you win the election and have a majority o
Sounds like an uphill battle. It depends on how many planets you have, and what your "interior lines" look like. I would choose a sector which they come through the most, and build up a star base loaded with military upgrades, so you can fight with an advantage there. Try to fight them in at least 2 to 1 battles. Get a large fleet, or two if you can to cover a larger area, and have them standby to hit them when they come knocking. Stay defensive until you've built up a good force and a few
Keep taxes low and invest in social projects like soil enrichment which improve the planet at first, then entertainment. I usually go as low as possible on taxes and keep morale above 70 when possible. I subsidise my spending by selling my research to the other aliens for monthly tribute (x2 researches usually gets me average 40 for 40). Go first for techs which allow more trade routes, and increases trade. Later on, your planet's morale will go down due to over population. Build
I wish I knew what I did to fix it. Everything I did just prior to the problem being fixed I had tried a few times before. The only thing I did differently when my games actually posted was I WAS NOT running Stardock Central in the background when I posted. I had been running it previously. That is probably just a coincidence though, as I can't see why that would make a difference. It just magically started to upload correctly. I can't explain it. :notsure: ~SDC~
Oh, let me know if you need any further info from me. I would really like to know why it didn't work before. I'm a curious type, and like to know why things work, and especially so when they don't! ~SDC~
Yes, it gave me credit for the 2nd game. I made sure I had a score of 0 so I could make sure it wasn't an earlier upload. I didn't do anything different than I was doing before, except I didn't have Stardock Central running at the time I uploaded. Would that make a difference? ~SDC~
Ok, now I'm seriously confused. I did exactly what Dave did and it worked. I can see my score on the Metaverse. Pretty strange. I'm going to try a "quick" game and see if it gets uploaded. I did go up and try to register again by taking out the dashes in the serial number, and it told me it was not valid, so I put them back in and it took it. Then just started up GC, loaded the save, submitted, and instantly, it was up there. Very confusing.... :notsure: ~SDC~
Congrats Dave!! Did you do anything to fix it, or just try again and it worked?? ~SDC~
Well, what does everyone here who can't upload have in common? Retail copy 101 update installed (from SDC) Bonus Material installed (From SDC) New DLL and "a" updates installed from top of this thread New multimedia installed (From SDC) Win XP Internet Connection: Cable through a switch (although it didn't upload when I was connected strait) Norton Antivirus running in background No Firewall I can't think of anything else to add. ~SDC
Well, don't see anything on the board yet, and it's been almost 30 minutes. I guess it's something other than the switch then. Should I try to reinstall the game then try it out? I'm running out of ideas. :notsure: If it helps, it's a retail copy, and I have everything updated (bonus material and new multimedia), all updated through SDC. ~SDC~
Oh, by the way, it did take considerably longer to submit the data strait, for some reason. This morning, with the new DLL, it would drop me back to the main menu within 5 seconds (give or take), but this last upload took almost 20 seconds. Don't know what that means, if anything, but there it is.... ~SDC~
T-Man OK, I have resubmitted the same game strait, without the router. BTW, how long does it take to get from our comps., and onto the top score board? I was wondering about that. ~SDC~
T-Man I'll give it a try with a strait connection without the router and let you know. Thanks! ~SDC~
T-Man I am connected through a "d-link" ethernet 10/100 switch/router. I have two comps. hooked up to the same connection. Could this in any way be causing trouble in uploading. I've never seen it cause any problems in the past in this way. I'm also running Win XP if it's of any help. Magnus Yep, figured that one out. Although I should have zipped the folder instead of the individual files. I came to that realization after I sent it off to T-Man. DOH! <br
Or, when I submit, does it submit the scores under my e-mail address? ~SDC~
T-Man No, no firewall. I'm not using any ad blockers (although I wish I were!), I'm on a cable modem, and I'm connected when I submitted. I was monitoring this at the same time I was submittting this morning, and this board is updating fine (through Stardock Central). The game doesn't pause or give me any indication that it didn't go through. Could it be a problem with my serial number? ~SDC~
Chris No, that didn't work. What it seems like to me, and I'm only looking in from the outside, is that all the registration is doing is linking an alias to your serial number. The game, when it updates, will put the scores up under the serial number, and then show them on the board under the alias you provided when you registered. Am I pretty close? If that's the case, there may be a breakdown with my serial number, between what I registered with at the top of the Metaver
Chris Yes, I tried that about 5 times, checked the serial number numerous times, and even tried the entire process with a different alias, and no dice. I'm using A_Lobos, just as typed, so if you come across it, let me know. The different alias I used was A Lobos without the "_", and neither worked. I made double sure the "in game" submission screen reflected the alias I was, at the time, attempting to register, so I have that covered also. Thanks though for the suggestion,
T-Man, what's your e-mail, and exactly what do you need? Just the single save file? ~SDC~
Still no dice. I can't imagine it takes this long (45 mins) for it to update, so there must still be a problem. Furan: I never crashed upon submitting to Metaverse, just never updated. I'll send you my save game if you want. If so, just the 1 save file, or do you need the entire save folder which coincides with that? I'll keep checking back, but for now, I have a galaxy to conquer! ~SDC~
That's what I'm wondering. If not, then it's still not working. Never had a crash, just no update to Metaverse. I'll keep checking though. Hope springs eternal! ~SDC~
