And for the few people who actually don't like the shipbuilder - you dont actually have to spend any time on it. All that fancy visual stuff has no effect on gameplay, so you can just take a core hull and throw whatever parts you want on it if you don't want to play with it. Exactly, you don't even ha

For the record, it doesn't bother me. I'm always more concerned with "what's the best ship I can build now" and "what should I research to help me stomp on the enemy" than I am aiming for a specific target ship. Then again, since I've been in the beta test since the GC2 beta went public, I know what I want better than I know what the canned ships are (they're a relatively new addition). I do agree that something like this would help those

DarkTalon's right, it will only work if you attack and can one-shot kill them or have obscene defenses on the ship in question. Also, the early weapons have a large scaling factor, which is to say that they get bigger as the hull you mount them on gets bigger, so a size 55 hull isn't going to be so uber compared to a size 26 hull with 16 times as many hit points. It's an interesting idea, but it isn't going to throw the balance of

Largest I've seen, i got. PQ 56. It was a PQ 26, I got a PQ colonization event and chose evil, and a few turns later, officially went Neutral, which instantly unlocked all the terraformable tiles. I'm spoiled, I'll never be happy again unless I've got at least one colony in the PQ 32+ range

Takes me 60 seconds to upgrade a ship design to a new engine, slighty longer for new weapons/defenses, and I only had to do the non-upgrade design ONCE. Not even once per game. Not trying to convince you, just making sure that others don't assume this is a bigger issue than it is.

Did you move the population onto those colonies, or did you grow it to that size? And are those the base PQ, or updated due to improvements? I've never been able to grow a PQ 6 colony that high, but as long as you can feed them, the population will not shrink just because of the colony PQ. Also, how's your morale on Earth in that game? The formula is correct as I've seen it, the one thing wrong with your example is that the results are in

As much as I love messing around with Ship Desing (Btw great tool) it is just too much hassle in my mind to just update basic ship (colony, consturctor, trade) designs every time the engines get better. Hopefully somekinda solution can be found, but I can live with it. Simple solution, don't use the b

Having played hundreds of hours of GC2 so far, including beta and gamma, and preferring close games (I like about a 60% win ratio), I have to say that the random events will rarely have any real effect on the outcome of the game. I never lost or won a game because of a random event in GCII. Most random events affect everyone, and of those that don't, most are avoidable. Game-altering events I've seen: The Fundamentalists: Avoid

The way it works in GC2 is radically different than GC1, so don't try to make any comparisons or assumptions. The class of the colony does not equal the maximum population. The theoretical max population depends on the class, but isn't linear (this much is actually the same as GC1). As for Morale, there's a +10 bonus for an 11+ (12+?) PQ planet, but other than that, the PQ doesn't affect morale. (whereas with GC1, the morale hit

Another annoying UI problem with the ship building is having to scroll through a long list of obsolete ship components. By obsolete I don't mean older, an obsolete component would be one that is superior in one of the attributes (size, cost, and value) and equal or superior in the remaining ones. Whi

If noone else answers your question, I'll get to it after I get home. The races are defined in XML files, so at worst you could cut and paste the race definition from the metaverse version of the file to the normal version. They moved the files since last time I knew where they were, otherwise I'd tell you how to go about it.

Additionally, you can turn off the fleet battles so that you don't see them, if you don't find them interesting. personally, I found setting the speed to 2x to be a better option than turning them off completely.

LordKiRon, are you suggesting to him that he resize it, or are you suggesting it as a feature? If suggesting as a feature, it's there already. It can be hard to get some things on at exactly the same size (especially some of the wings where you have to grab a different part) and I'd like to see that improved, but resizing the parts works fine.

That's what the snathi really look like in the GC2 universe, can't speak for this one. stumpy, I love long games, I'd show you, but I have the asthetics of a dead elephant. I can say that the heaviest hitters at the end of the game may well have attack and defense values well over 100 after bonuses. Usually, if I survive that long, the AI is too far behind me to field anything that can match it. Think next time I'll give the AI some ship

Yup, definitely better to balance out your population across all planets rather than trying to maintain a few "farmbasket" planets, though the latter strategy was more viable in gamma than it was during beta. On the other hand, approval is easy enough to control that I drop a farm on just about any planet large enough to use one.
