Hmmm... I think caps would have to hold back and let the frigates jump first. Let the fleets thin out a bit before engaging. The other tactic I'm thinking is to use caps to sneak attack and go after different planets if the opponent has massed his/her ships. Force his/her forces to split up, or play cat and mouse.
Why would I spend all the resourses and time it takes to research an increased cap ship limit, and all the resourses and pop cap on the ship itself so I can
You people really need to listen to yourselves. A lot of people put a lot of time into this great game.... Games like SINS come along once in awhile so be careful what you say, and where you say it; cos people are listening.
I know how games like this, especially with Stardock's support, will evolve over time. I commend and applaud the effort of the guys at Ironclad, not just with a forum post or two, but with $50. The original poster asked an important and valid qu
I'm looking forward to see how the game evolves with patches and mods, but right now I'm already losing interest in it. I really miss being able to design ships, and the current diplomacy model is just not fun. Although I'm really glad stardock and ironclad have a hit on their hands, and am sure things will improve in the future, I really don't see what this game currently offers that Sword of the Stars doesn't do better.
I think I will like this mod. I think heavier defense will help balance out the fleet cap scaling problems on larger maps. Is it possible using mod tools to add an extra squandron to the base amount supported by hangars? I think one more squadron per hangar would give them a fun amount of ooomph.
Newtonian physics FTW. Sure the structures would be orbiting the planet, but so would the attacking ships. That's what ships do to not fall into planets, they orbit them. Which would leave us with exactly what we have now.
In addition to being morally repugnant, the planet bombing animations are way out of scale with the planet itself. There would be nothing left of the surface but molten ash if the explosions were accurate.
It lets me set it for 1440X900 which is my monitor's native resolution
I'm noticing there a quite a few abilities and techs that say do such and such to "Fighters". Does this mean only fighters and not bombers, or is it trying to say all strike craft? Next patch should clean those descriptions up, if neccessary. Abilities that affect both Fighters and Bombers should say "Strike Craft" and not just "Fighters".
I'm OK with the fact the Advent are all female, but why do they all sound like Meg from Family Guy?
My decision to buy Sins was influenced hugely by the experience I have had with GalCiv/GalCiv 2/Dark Avatar. I really like Stardock's no drm, treat people like valued customers and not potential criminals policy.
Bumped "For great justice"
...but depending on your Vista settings, your OS could be using up to 1.4Gb of RAM all by itself... (I'm running 4GM ram with Vista 64 bit and vista itself uses that much if I have Aero and a few other background stuff opening)
Best advice you can give a Vista gamer is to tell them to wipe the drive and put XP on it. Seriously.
Whether to build tech labs or whatnot depends on the game you're playing(are you close to the enemy? Far? Enemy agressive? Defensive?). Tactical considerations like those are a big part of the game, you'll figure that stuff out on your own when you get a chance to actually sit down and play. Don't expect to win your first couple of games either. Just roll with it and see how stuff is working and why you're losing. Seeing as the first cap ship is free, and is more than a match for the r

Funny thing about good games, you don't always win.
Any chance of native support for the G15 in the game in the future? Might be nice to see the pirate timer on the LCD :)
I actually think that some of the problem with them for me stems from the fact that they are called "Pirates". It conjures up all kinds of pre-conceived notions that I don't think mesh well with this game world. Think about if the were called "The Seekers". They would stem from a robotic factory complex (current Pirate base) left behind by a long forgotten precursor race who used it expand their now extinct empire. It continously builds new drone warships, but with it's masters long dea
I'm not saying I agree with badken, but you can't say his feelings are "completely unjustified". When the producer of a game is changing the title of a post he didn't create, to highlight his own glowing point of view, that's a pretty big conflict of interest. I've heard of hijacking a thread, but this takes it one step further. I've experimented with making the frequency of the pirate raids every 21 minutes, but it's clear to me they are meant to be an intregal part of the game balance
Last night I was playing a 2V2 , and I stumbled upon a menu where I had options to set a system as a target for my Ally to attack or defend, but it was early in the game. Later, the AI started attacking one of my Allies' worlds, I sent my fleet to defend, but he had his fleet parked at my homeworld for no apparent reason while his planet was getting glassed. I couldn't for the life of me remember how I got the Ally command menu. Anybody remember how to do this? Do the Allies actually p
Is there a way to see what a Refinery is actually doing? I mean they sound good , so I build them, but how many minerals/crystals are they actaully contributing? How long does it take one to pay for itself?
Just a time compression feature for those times when your just waiting for resourses or something to build or a fleet to arrive would be great. Changing the "speed" of the game mid game may be problematic, becuase I don't think it scales with things on real-time timers now.
Again, I totally get the concept and agree they add a nice wrinkle to the game, but every 12 minutes seems too frequent. I mean, consider the experience of a new player like myself. I've got all the details cranked up , I'm immersed in the environment looking at all the pretty nebulae and fearsome ships and diving into the space opera as I plot and build my empire in gorgeous 3D. Then , every 12 minutes I'm pulled out of that immersion so I can look at a rather bland 2D screen with one
awesome , thanks. I assume those numbers are real time seconds?
