Ahh, ok I Intrude, thank you for explaining that. :) Fortunately, I'm on DSL, so it wasn't all that painful, I was just taken a bit by surprise when I saw the size SDC was showing. It downloaded the full 84 megs, but it worked. I ran the game quickly, and all seems to be in order. I hope they get the SDC issue resolved however. I really feel sorry for those on 56k if it comes up as 84mb for them. :( Thanks again for the info. :) -GeorgeT

I was having a problem getting the update button to show as well, but entering my serial number got it to show up. I clicked on the update button and it's now downloading 84.62mb. Is it supposed to be this big? The 'installed' version listed is 1.01.029, and the 'available' version is 1.01a.031, which is what I beleive it's currently being updated to, but I didn't think the update was so large. Is this how it's supposed to be, or is something going a little whacky? Just curious (and a b
Not sure if this has been suggested or not, but would it be possible to add a 'tool tip' to the mouse cursor when interacting with the mini-map? I think I'd be able to find and go to a star system much easier if the name of each star system 'popped up' over the cursor while it's being hovered over the system's 'dot' on the mini map. :) This way when events occur involving specific systems, it'll be much easier to find the system in question instead of having to jump all over the big map. <br
One more thing... be wary of becoming allies with the minor civilizations. It seems to be bugged to me in that, once I've got an alliance created with a minor civilization, I can't break the alliance. I could possibly break it through war, but using the button to break the alliance in the Minor Races tab of the Foreign Policy screen has not worked for me yet. :p Good luck. :) -GeorgeT
I've formed alliances, but it seems to me that the civilization you're trying to form an alliance with must have *close* relations with you. Apparently friendly isn't good enough. Once you've gotten relations to close, and both you and the civilization you wish to ally yourself with have researched alliances (or obtained them through trade), the option to form an alliance will come up. Hope this helps. :) -GeorgeT
By the way, I have saved a copy of this game under a new name to 'hang on to it', in case someone in the dev team would find it useful to see the in-game shark stats as well as the inability to break the alliance with a minor race. Sorry, I would've added this info to the above post, but alas, no edit button. :p If the savegame will be useful to anyone in the dev team, just let me know and I'll email it to you guys. :) -GeorgeT
I've noticed a bug with alliances with minor civilizations. I managed to become an ally with a minor civilization called the Sanderons, and I've tried to use the 'Break Alliance' button (on the minor races tab under foreign policy,) however the alliance doesn't break, and I'm stuck as an ally with them. I suppose I could declare war on them to force the alliance to break, but I honestly want out of the alliance to get out of the wars I'm already involved in, not to get into new ones. :p
azakain... Thank You! That's something about starbases that has been nagging at me. I couldn't quite figure out why I was attacking a base with an attack of 0 and a defense of 5, and I kept loosing corvettes. :p I think my biggest problem is that when all the major races are on the 'fool' setting, the minor races don't seem to be effected by that, and in turn, seem to be playing at a much higher difficulty level. Also, I've had 'new' minor civilizations defect from within my own star sy
lol talon90! :) If I turn out to be the only one to break a keyboard over this game, then I guess it does, in some small way, qualify as a unique experience, in which case, the box would be correct. :p StarGalax, thanks for the keyboard sympathy. :) Fortunately, I've been looking for an excuse to get a new one, but I'll be honest, my wife wasn't too thrilled to see what I'd done to the now-dead one. My first gut-reaction with the amount of frustration I was feeling at that point origina
Soulfire777, I may be wrong on this, but it *seems* to me, when offering diplomatic deals, that the color of the text is the indicator as to whether or not the civilization you're dealing with will or will not accept the deal. From what I've noticed during gameplay, if the text that reads along the lines of "We're offering you X for Y" that appears at the bottom between the two separate "offer" windows is green in color, the civilization you're dealing with is willing to accept the offer. If tha
at least in my case. :p Once again, the darn *minor* civilizations have handed me (and all of the *major* civilizations) our collective butts. The Fundamentalists came in, taking over two of my systems, and on the following turn declared war on me. Mind you, this was still very early in the game, so early in fact, that my first constructer hadn't even been completed yet. Anyhow, somehow or another, they came out almost immediately with battleships, and remained at war with me throughout the enti
Hi, Just wanted to say that I got the game when it came out, and enjoy it for the most part, however the 'minor' races and random events always seem to gang up on me and obliterate any chance I have of success. I've become a bit suspect of the AI on the space monsters (like the space shark) as in several games I've played, they either escape from their 'theme park', or just randomly appear. While I don't have a problem with that part per se, I have noticed that the space sharks become
