I have found that in the inital phases of the game (the land grab phase) I spend so little on social that they complete only after the phase is over. Thus, researching anything for social improvements in the early game is of little use. Thus going down your list I would suggest only keeping the following (keeping your order) 1. Communication Theory 2. Universal translator 3. Diplomacy 4. Trade 5. Propulsion Theory 6. Cold Fusion 7. Impulse Drive

I agree with you Offholdr, the blame is not with the publisher IG, it's just business for them. The blame lays squarely at the simply gosh awful developers and managers at Quicksilver. They are one of the most incompetent bunch to ever attempt such a visible project. I hope that they have a hard time finding work after this debacle.
"It is really funny watching small minded people . . ." Yup got to agree with that. And the moo3 people are about as small minded as possible. And Phaedyme anyone who uses "onomatopoeia" should understand their logical fallacies better. Especially when they state them in Latin. I do however find you, and please don't take this as an insult, to be stereotypical of moo3 supporters. They think, falsely, that they are somehow smarter, chosen perhaps, and that they "need" very compl
"post hoc ergo propter hoc" after this therefore because of this ... Hmm. To prove that I am committing this logical fallacy it would seem that you have to prove that the given effect would not have occurred if my proposed cause did not occur or the effect was caused by something other than my suggest cause. I think you have chosen the 2nd avenue by saying: "some people are punks." However going by your logic it would follow that all boards would be in flames. However that is n
Hmmm ... why are the moo3 boards in flames... hmmm, why oh why? Perhaps due to the fact that they made a crappy game? Good game, like GalCiv, tame boards. Crappy game, like moo3, boards in flames. Doesn't see to be rocket science.
SMAC was probably the best game system ever designed for a turn based game. Of course when you have such an impressivly complex game system the AI will have problems. Much like MoM's AI had "problems." SMAC had far better AI than MoM, but still it's AI had difficulty due to the great flexibility the player had at his disposal. Still SMAC is, probably, the best turn based game ever made. GalCiv is a fine game and a worthy effort do doubt, but as it stands to
The problem, in my mind is that they outclass battleships by far more than avatars outclass them, which seems wrong considering how close they are techologically to battleships vs. how far avatars are from DNs. Perhaps a little less defence and a little less hp?
Does anyone else find that dreadnoughts are a little too good. Low price, good HP, good defence? Perhaps if the dreadnought had a 5 or a 6 for defence they would not be the end all be-all of space combat. As it is, they outclass battleships by such a large amount that the 1st person to get them has a huge advantage.
MOO3 made a killing in pre-orders. so true and so , so sad.
Ok I really don't get it. This last game I turned off cultural victory (since I usually trip that too early). I had insane culture and military. And I had a lot of pop. I don't get it!
Does anyone know what to do to maximize your score? I've played a couple of games and I have not been able to crack 1,500 points. Any idea how to max score? Is it pop based? Do you get tons of points for destroying ships? Is it all about moral? Is it based on last turn moral if so, or is it over the span of the game?
"Sorry Huz, but Avault doesn't work that way." and "Count the ads. I count 8." Of course they work that way. Do I think that the reviewer thought "Ohh they did not pay enough time for a hatchet job?" No I do not think it works that way. However, do I think that if StarDock had paid for a lot of advertising that a different, more "experienced" reviewer would have been assigned? Yes. Do I think that if StarDock had paid a lot in advertising that a revi
I have to say that the AI that people are outlining would be great. That being said it sounds very hard to implement. It sounds easy to say, but honestly things that seem easy for humans to do are quite often very complex algorithms. However he is the list of enhancements proposed that seem to be easy to code: 1) nerf culture. No problem. Heck it would still be easy to nerf culture and have it be an exciting part of the game. 2) Attack starbases which give milita
Brad, you nailed the sole reason why you got a bad review in one of your replies on avault: "GalCiv had very little marketing prior to release. The only thing that has made it so popular is word of mouth. People who like the game and tell others about it. If it has a large fan base at this point, I think one could argue that this is because a large percentage of people exposed to the game like the game." You had little marketing and that means dollars given to web sites prior t
The upcoming patch looks like it will address everyones concerns
Uhm,. I call bullshit on that one! Moo3 is a laughing stock of a game. A sack of complete garbage. Few strategy games are worse. The base design is horrible. I quote from one of the developers:
I decided the best way to ease the micro manager into macro management as the game progressed would be to create a planet development/economic system so vast…so intr
