I'm not sure what you mean with "beginning the game" thing: The three scouts are the first ships I built.
Ummm...pardon me for butting-in...but...isn't "first ships I build" counts as "beginning the game"? You rarely need scouts once you have the clairvoyance/scanners research thingie that alerts you on incoming fleets. And by then, all of the relevant colonies are (better be!) armed to their teeth to intercept incoming fleets. In fact, I really don't un
Read the thread - or, better yet, read the section it's posted in.
Done so - I still don't see how my comment is rendered invalid by it. It is also directed at the whole "ships don't move in combat" crowd.
I really can't understand this request, why would you want the ships to move?! This is not just a graphics issue we're talking about, here. Fact 1: The capitals are lumbering behemoths, and cannot turn quite well. Fact 2: The capitals have set weapon slots located on set locations on their hull. The KOL battleships, for example, have their heavy-duty guns in the front, and they already have to lumber about in order to bring their weapons to bear as it is, especially i
If it stands the test of time, it's a good game. End of story.
More ridiculous movie analogies ensue: The original Night of the Living Dead and The Rocky Horror Picture Show have stood the test of time as well.... Nah, what matters most is that each game has its place. Starcraft is all fine and good, but I'm just happy I have an alternative in gameplay with Sins and Supreme Commander.
It isn't mindless "oh, he sent a soldier, so I'll send the described counter, the anti-infantry tank, and then send the super MBT once he sends a MBT to crush my anti-infantry tank. That's ping-pong, and you could get a computer to do it for you (which is essentially what AI players do).
I disagree. There is nothing 'mindless' in Starcarft. It's fast and micromanagement-heavy, but it is not mindless in any shape or form. In fact, you can fortify your base in Starcraft to
Sacrilege! Burn the infidel! Torches and tridents all around! Oooh, boy. There are too many Blizzard fans on the great big Internet for your point to go through, I'm afraid. Blizzard is like the pope and the king all at the same time. *lowering voice* The problem is...that I agree with you. Blizzard's games are fun, but really and truly overrated. Warcraft was cartoonish and cute, and I even use Starcraft's Overmind voices for my cell phone ("SPAWN MORE OVERLORDS!" ahhh, an
On the opposite side, a colleague of mine purchased Audio Surf through Steam, but it kept trying to get online to make sure his copy is legit, would hinder him, and even sometimes run and sometimes not. Eventually, he had to download a pirated copy of his purchased game so he could play it without a hassle. This is an excellent example of what harsh DRM is doing. Needless to say, this is not the way. Stardock truly have started something spectacular with their anti-DRM approach
After a few winning streaks, I have to say I would have re-made it exactly the same. The game's awesome, and it has everything I ever wanted already. Anything else added in patches or in the expansion will be just more icing on the cake for me. And regarding the cap ships being too wimpy, I disagree. Coupled with strong defenses and/or a few heavy cruisers to take the brunt of the enemy's assault, and the cap ships reign supreme. True, I rarely use the utility cap ships anymore
No, no rewards or anything like that. It's just an overall sense of accomplishment, and another carrot to run after while enjoying the game. It's actually quite fun to try to accomplish these things once you master the game's mechanics. "Win the game with only your pinky while singing Disney's 'It's a small world after all' theme song all the way!" - Excellent achievement :)
I'm just afraid if we don't have ideas, we could get boring/generic star bases dumped on us
This is Stardock we're talking about, here. Your fears are misplaced, dude. Me? All I want is a starbase that will allow me to turtle up to my neck until I will amount a huge fleet to wipe out the galaxy without having to constantly move the fleet back and forth to and from my systems in order to defend them, and I don't mind how it will look like, how it will be done, or
for the most part exclusive. I was expecting some constructive responses to this post, but instead I was patronized by e-bullies. Shame on you all for ruining and downplaying these observations of mine which I thought were unique and interesting. I didn't make the topic expecting this. I made it hoping people would experience the same "ah ha!" feeling I felt. It's always been beyond me how anyone can so easily disregard the feeling and needs of other and possess such an innate de
I really don't feel like purchasing or playing a political game (I LOATHE politics!), but I once made a promise to myself that I will purchase each official game that Stardock will ever publish to show my support. So I'll be purchasing it on the beginning of next month, then. Who knows? Maybe I'll even enjoy it a bit. Anyway, love you guys! Keep up the great work!
Where is promised option for faster game speed? There are all same old options
"Players can use the + and – keys in single player to control the game speed".
I'm not going to badmouth anything. I take my words back, I made a mistake. Me=An idiot. Boy, do I feel stupid. Since the devs have given a great discount on buying the new game for purchasers of the old Lost Empire, I've done so and purchased it as well. I will give my honest impressions later on. Edit: I cannot edit my first post. I hope there is a way for the devs to either remove this thread altogether or allow me to reedit it :(
And, to finish all, the game itself isn't on the shelves yet, but you came here and shat on it BEFORE it's release. Are you privy to some access we aren't?
Oh for crying out loud: http://www.gamersgate.com/index.php?page=product&what=view&sku=DD-LE Put your money where your mouth is and go buy the damn thing before you degrade this thread even further to a flame war about piracy. I buy my games. Now, if you don't agree, go right ahead. You can argue
Furthermore, pndrev, you have nothing to take offense about, as this got nothing to do with you at all. This is my personal preference, and I really am setting the limit here on what is considered inappropriate and what is not. Most people will be disgruntled if they would pay full admittance price for a cinema ticket and then find out they are in an unprofessionally made student film, no matter how good it actually is. And they'd be right, too. And I agree, I should have waite
"Try to make games, and then put ALL the Indie scene in dime a dozen category" : This is a very irrelevant remark - I don't try to make games, since I have no skill in it but I do expect people who claim about making games to actually make them professional or at least warn me if they're not. I'm very glad you like Space Empires. My friend liked it very much as well. But I really did not. In fact I really am not in the habit of purchasing Indie games, nor do I like them at all, and I exp
Cikomyr, an Indie game does NOT mean simply low-end graphics. An Indie game means that there are multiple bugs, spelling mistakes, horrific UI which seems like it was pre-made with a fold and someone amateurishly glued text on it and more, while the maps and ships look like they are made from placard. This is not a retail game where only a few bugs here and there are apparent. I cannot exactly describe to you what Indie game actually means, I guess you will have to see for yourselves. Imagine Sp
I give you this as public service for all GalCiv2 fans: Gamespot has written a very nice preview of a 4X game called Lost Empire: Immortals, which can be read in the following link: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/lostempireimmortals/news.html?page=1&sid=6185088&tag=result;title;0 I have purchased and downloaded it directly from the company's site a
CTD=Crash to Desktop. A crash that happens due to some sort of incompatibility in the code of an application or game, which results in a prompt and unplanned exit back to the desktop with an annoying error message (which uselessly also offers to report the crash to Microsoft). I know, I know, a simple "CTD=Crash to Desktop" was required, but I felt overly informative today :)
You are THE MAN! You have done everyhing I ever wanted with Sins! Even though I'm a huge fan of Stardock in general (and was a member since the times of the first GalCiv), in all fairness, I admit that I stopped playing Sins at its current state - I just couldn't enjoy it, as it was heavily punishing defensive players. I didn't do it in spite, but just couldn't enjoy it. Your mod changed all that, and I truly wish to thank you for it. I even advise Stardock to make the
I'm an action-RPG fan, still play Diablo 2, Sacred (can't wait for Sacred 2), Hellgate: London and the rest, and I'm sorry to say that Titan Quest wasn't a very good game. It was a hollow Diablo in a new dress. I couldn't play it beyond the first act, as it was simply boring and uninspired. And it's not just my preference, I bought the game to my brother and his wife, which the two always play Diablo 2 and other clones in LAN together, and they simply never really played it that much with many d

Gee, ya guys r jest too smart fer us dumb folk. And really funny, to boot.
1.03 wishlist: 1. Finally make "Kade Shaderow" understand that he is not the only one playing the game, and not the only one entitled to opinion. 2. Beef the defenses up a bit. Please.
