Or that you could pick the area it came from. I remember the origional Master of Orion, you got to pick the field it came from (unless there were only weapon techs et al that you didn't have) and it would give you a random tech from there. And for Counter-Intelligence there could be a security slider. THe higher it is the longer it takes for someone to infiltrate you to higher ranks, with even the possibility that they go down due to purges, also making tech stealing harder.

Well, I am glad you guys like my late night thought ^_^ Hopefully some form of it could be considered, though it may be a bit too much change in the combat dynamics to implement. Well, I'm just going to have to wait until we hear from the devs, either on whether this is feasible or if it is being considered.

Okay, so I was looking at the Dark Avatar preview on IGN, and something they said in there made me stop.... "[...] each race in Dark Avatar will get their own special ability. Humans, for instance, will be super-diplomats (meaning they're good at diplomacy), and the Arceans get the ability to strike first in battles they instigate." Now, stop me if I'm just a little senile, but don't you already strike first in a battle you start?? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigSm

I gotta say, like these guys, this game looks and sounds pretty sweet. I am a pretty big fan of RTS games and I loved the Homeworld games (first one I played was Cataclysm, and I personally thought that it was a good game). I'll be looking forward to any more info you have on this game. And I know you guys wont rush the Ironclad team *cough* *cough*

I really could be way off here, but from the little that I have seen, it would make sense progression wise and also placate many of the people that think Laser I-V is a boring way to do the techs. Even something as simple as Light Laser, Medium Laser, Gattling Laser and Heavy Laser would be a big improvement. Along that idea is to have the first tech be Lasers and then have the next 4 techs change what the weapon can do. Make it the 1 point smaller, but then also add in the op

I would assume not. Seeing as how you can't break the relationship it wouldn't make a ton of sense for the game to go ahead and do it.

I'd also like to remind you that 'on the payroll' implies regular payout to the person, whereas he was only paid a lump sum for a manual (that I think was very well written). I don't see where the shady business practices or ethics comes in here for Stardock. Once he wrote the manual, the current business relationship was over and done with. If he did a good job on the manual, he has a chance to work for Stardock again. That isn't shady. While I admit, it may have been handl

Well, considering that I would be waiting for a better game with more features, and presumably very well balanced\patched, I can't think of a reason NOT to hold off. Well, except for the Christmas season. It would be a big bummer to miss that massive retail time for you guys. I guess what I am saying is that I don't mind one bit waiting. Yeah, it might suck to not have this for another few months. Yes...I would love playing it NOW! But I feel safe with you guys at the helm of this.

It is pretty much the hero characters. Also, don't forget the time scale here. You generally win a game in a matter of years, not decades or centuries like in Master of Orion or some of the other games. It would be kinda odd in a couple years there's a King, six children in the first generation, 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Achillus, try just not saying anything along those lines. I don't think you're a bad person for doing, but I don't think better of you either. There is no constructive use for it in a forum so why bother? I played both Halo's and I really didn't understand why everyone was so psyched about it. At best it is a mediocre FPS. It just so happens that all the other FPSs on console suck more (IMHO). The best I can say is that it tops the list of games I don't want. I still don't think t

Its always possible you picked up some sort of trojan\virus that was wating for any files to be installed to prompt for a restart....But as to one of you OP ideas, there shouldn't be anything wrong with the files on Stardock's end. If there were there would be a lot more people with this problem. If Norton doesn't catch anything for you, try a couple spyware scanners (I use SpyBot and AdAware) and then see if you cant't find a free virus scanner to use once (I use Sophos if my AV scann

I'm not too sure how everyone is having so much trouble with the economy...just finished a gigantic map with 6 opponents, and I only went into the red once. And that was WITH getting declared on relatively early and a crash ship building program. I will say that I was 'only' playing on challenging, but I did not have much more trouble than usual. *shrug* I guess this new economy model just works well for my playing style.
