Oh, and if you look at the power meter, I am still less than 1/3 of the highest faction's power. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword!!

Agreed. Cultural buildings stink. You can more than double your cultural output by using cultural festival and manufacturing buildings, over using cultural buildings. I dont see how cultural buildings can be better. They do give you culture points while you can still manufacture (very nice), but you never lose cultural points, so you can pound out buildings in a few turns with all manufacturing, then turn to cultural festival while you have nothing to build. &n
Please provide a screen shot of the Govern Planet Window, showing the pie screen. As suggested, you probably have 100% set to military manufacturing (shipyard) and 0% set to social manufacturing (planetary buildings).
Where as my game, taking patriotic AND focusing on approval and defense rather than offense, allowed me to take over the entire galaxy without firing a SHOT. And no, planetary defense is not OP. One viable tactic is indeed an offensive/military rush. However, another viable tactic can be a defensive/influence rush.
I know I'm in late game right now, but I just colonized a harsh environment planet the AI never landed on, and I have 38 approval from the get go. My planets are at pop 50s, with 100% approval. With 2 approval buildings, I have nearly 70 approval points. Approval adds up. And to help convince you, I took a note from your playbook, and tried Patriotic this game :) ( a custom faction for this turtle/influence game). When you have NO Malus, thos
Hmm, they really need to scale the power rankings properly for that. Human low power, is so under-estimated by the AI. I'm usually 4-5x lower in power, until I go on the offensive. And when I go on the offensive, I dont lose any battles, and its mop up right there....and my power is still easily half of the AIs, if not more. In my game now, a sure influence/tech victory mop up....I am +5X lower in power than the highest faction. 4 factions re
I dunno, turn 220 in my turtle/influence/tech game, and I have flipped 10 planets in the last 20 turns, and I havent even started going into full influence mode, still spam researching war techs to finish Age of Ascension.....the AI is dropping like flies now :) How many turns per invasion, with all of the micro directing, building troops, yada ya... :) Being in the middle is turning out to be quite OP :)
Agreed Joe. i tried to go mainly culture, but I had to beef up my research to get more planetary defense. Then, when I had zero elurium, because only the warring factions had it, I was stuck in Age of War techs, so had to go full research throttle to get to Age of Ascension and Planetary Defense Dome. My influence did surely piss them off, and I flipped 2 planets. But when your research rate is SKY HIGH and you hit Age of Ascension
As well, it should should 0.0 when FLAT due to maxing out food. And on another note, having a column in the empire list showing pop growth rate (sortable like the others) would be fantastic, because you need to be able to easily see which planets are at 0.0 growth, and help push planets past the 0.1 growth rate. I HATE having to micro this, looking at each planets every several turns.
This existed in 1.03, but I wanted to bring it up as there was "tooltip" work in 1.1. When starving your planet, the population does indeed drop by -0.1 per turn (thansk to joeball for pointing that out to me last week). However, the tooltip still show the full growth rate, using the +0.1 base rate. In my case, it was +0.3.
Ah, thanks joeball! I guess I've never fought a pragmatic faction WITH that trait :)
I saw this post, but forgot to reply earlier. I'm just about to win a game on genius level, without building a single military vessel. Looks like tech victory is faster, just no way to win by pure influence if you have low tech IMO. I'll send a thread about it later. Its quite the Bazaaro Marigoldran experience :) BTW, I don't think I have won a conquest game at all, because by the time you get to the last faction, you have an influen
I wouldnt be surprised if there was a special command line variable needed to enhance the amount of debug data, or better, it only works on special debug builds during their internal testing. They need to keep some things proprietary.
Hats off to you naselus. But you will need to run LOTS of soaks, with LOTS of statistics to make any concrete conclusions (an output of the timeline into a file, would be extremely useful to evaluate soaks). I'm sure this is how stardock tests it themselves, Probably being able to save the soak save game every turn, giving them the ability to go back and see what was going on when its empire made radical changes in power stats (or even just research, military, etc).
The approval tooltip worked fine in 1.03, but in 1.1 I am seeing "War with favored civilization", -25%. The enemy is only 25% higher than my power. That's a bit harsh, no? I have WELL over 100% approval, to compensate for the -25% on most worlds, but on a world with 100% approval, I am not getting my +25% bonus from high approval. Only 17.8%...which is affecting my resistance....ggrrrr... Has anyone seen this?
double post..uhg
Has anyone noticed this? The tooltip shows all of the bonuses perfectly. I'm getting 82.5% in the total, where I show have 85%. 27.5% where I should have 35%. etc. Its got nothing to do with approval, I'm 100% on these worlds, and it should only affect resistance (which it does correctly, still). Lol, I'm trying a pure influence game. I havent built any ships other than colony ships (well, ok, I finally fi
Balance should be their number one goal. Then you can tailor it for your owns tastes. For ultimate re-playability, they should as well have random options for that entire page.
Even during war, it can be painful to simply wait for population to regrow order to invade. I think next game, I will build a bunch of tiny/small ships with one colony module (or troop module, whichever cheaper), to have stationed on each planet. Each planet brings just 0.5 pop max, and rallies them for your big troop transports. Then you wont take the larger pop hit on a single, or even just a few planets. Birthing subsidies is great, but wow, to get more than 1.0 pop
desperately needed in ANY planet list, ship list faction list, notification list, starbase list, etc, etc
I'm a laser boy myself, but mainly because I like how it looks i battle viewer. Lasers miss too, as do missiles. The accuracy brings the range and DPM differences together, making a fairly balanced approach to the game. Yeah, at the high end Singularity Drivers have much less DPM (taking accuracy into account as well), however you have to kinetic defenses into consideration. Armor has a terrible defense/mass ratio compared to shields.
i can download, but there are issues. When I subscribe to a faction, it says subscribed and I go back to the game. The leader portrait dont show up, and it might lead you to believe that nothing is happening. In MyGames\Galciv3\Factions, the data is indeed there. I need to then restart the game, and the factions appear normally. But when repeating the test, the factions were in fact downloaded, just no leader portraits initially. as well, w
Derek, do you want tickets opened up for 1.1 issues, or just report them in the forums??
Tooltip bug - minor - in the 1.1 tooltip improvements: -Under Approval Tooltip in Planetary Screen, it shows approval bonuses on the bottom. It fails to mention the affect on Resistance - pop, prod, and influence are there and fine. As well, in the text just underneath the approval bonuses, the text states high approval helps influence, growth, and resistance. It doesn't mention raw production. Only too
