Something i don't get about Sci-fi channel is that they have never shown any of the Star Wars movies. How come they don't? PS:I hope that the upcoming Star Wars miniseries will be shown on Sci-fi.Sci-Fi is too busy pumping out crappy movies and figuring out how to squeeze more commercials into Ghost Hunters to really care about Star Wars and other sci-fi things. I can't recall a single original movie or series they've made that I like (that includes that abomination of Battlesta
Play with Diplomacy off and locked AI, maybe?
Do this and you'll have more fun plus learn a few things. Just locking teams and no Pirates makes it much more manageable. You don't suck at the game but you are bitting off quite a bit to chew. A related question about AI levels - what exactly occurs when you level up the AI? More cash I presume?
Ya might get everyone playing as the Reaver race.... :)
Excellent strategy post dude, especailly good for a noobish player as myself. What you bring out is the effects of techs/cap ship options that are easily seen and chosen but this is really all theory unless you see the practical part. Good stuff!! :)
A lot of food for thought here... It appears hangers and turrets have their uses as they make the AI do something a little different. My last game ( a whopping 2 vs. 1 at normal - weak I know :) ) I was getting owned by a slow start plus culture (this I found surprising!) and each race had mega fleets on my corners with an occasinal foray up the middle at my home planet. One thing I can add is I set my fleet at hold in the cover of the repair bay, turrets and hangers
There is an advantage as well if you buy other games and migrate to another computer. Once you have SDC up on a new machine, you get the option to dowmnload (or not) your other games. I guess it like Steam in this respect but it's not bad at all as the others have said. You can browse and d/l other demos, etc.
Maybe the fighters should sit in dock bays until something enters the system UNLESS you have the tech that spots incoming enemies. They become mobiized then? An added dimension for teching up??
I find that I have yet to find a planet named "Wardell" or at least "Fraser"... :) I'm too new to really comment on Sins yet but one can see a family resemblence between the two.
The Spice must flow ... :) Nice tie in to Dune he-he!
Wasn't it stuff like mind control, drug augumentation of physical/mental abilites, genetic manipulations that I seem to remember extolled in an opening cut video? And, on top of all that, listening to Britney Spears music....
Being a newbie myself, also take the above-suggested map without Pirates. Use pause a lot and open the manual. I just finished my first game after two consectutive nights till 1:00 am. Soase is not hard but it sure is deep! :)
****Blushes **** Thanks Mr. Fraser et al.
Oh goodie! I like ponies, even the spacey ones... :) Sykonaut - not yet but I'll keep you in mind. I saw the thread about noobs on line as well but I've got a lot to learn before I venture into MP. I've done MP in a FPS (BF2 mod Forgotten Hope) and some of the old AOEII so I'll give it a whirl after a bit.
You can't cue up more than you can afford any how right? There will be some element of waiting anyways until economies kick in more?
I just wanted to say hello to this forum. Yep, I downloaded this game Sunday and found myself up till 1:00 am last nite already. :) Right now my best friends in the game are the Pause Key and the Manual with a lifeline to this forum, which I used last nite to find out how to convert neutral mining asteriods as TEC. I'm familar with the Gal Civs and recently popped out of Astro Empires to what looks like a real RTS. Looking forward to shari
I downloaded this Sunday and am looking forward to some good times. I have been familar (through not real active) with the Gal Civ series and enjoyed them, this looks very promising. It looks to be as is has been said - easy to play but very hard to master!
Downloaded the game yesterday and I'm anxious to put theory into practice. Stardock, Brad et al policy of being accesible is a great one and emotes all sorts of confidence in a great product.
The Thalans colonized Mars on me once when I ignored it in favor of colonizing better quality worlds elsewhere in one of my first games That happened in my current game. Poor AI, doesn't it know that it will be the first planet it will lose. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIG
I voted Gamespot but I heard it from other places are well. My decision to finally buy it (on-line) came from the e-mail from Stardock. Kudos to you guys - Gal Civ II is a dream. Knight
You made it, mate!!
As far as impeding ships, didn't Gal Civ I do this with like a tractor beam module you could add to your star base?? ** clears cobwebs from between ears **
Midnightsun, that was the answer. Changed my XP computer resolution and wah lah! Appreciate it man. This came after I reinstalled the game from scratch (my disk came in the mail.) Changed the h/w mouse deal. Both didn't work. Again, I thank you all very mucho.
Thanks all. I'll go back to the last version. I wasn't sure that I could do that thru SDC but I'll give it a try. I think the McAffe deal is just when the program checks the Internet but I'll shut it down. The tip on manually updated the options is great as well. I looked and couldn't figure it out. Needelees to say, I tried many, many things. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gi
This forum editor is not quite right - To the above message from me: My mouse will not work at all. I can't even get to the options part of the game to change to hardware mouse. I have a Geforce 6800XT with an AMD64, 939 pin machine that runs everything under the sun but I cannot even exit this game properly. I saw back in FEb 2006 this was noted as a potential problem but it's a real one with me. I have used Windows
I posted this in the Gal Civ II forum and I am reposting here. Quote - I was find until I updated last version. Prior to that, i changed as not to use a full window as Galactopedia crashed my games when I switched back and forth. Uninstalled gsame, reinstalled and I can't get my mouse to respond to even set options to hardware mouse. Catch 22!! WTF. Geforce 6800GT. This looks likes its been an old problem
