Building star bases like this near my planets is a clear act of war as far as I'm concerned. Get your fighter squadrons together..

In my game right now I am playing as a custom race and the Drengin got this event that makes them go on a universe conquering spree. There is a three way Alliance between the Drath/Altarian/Torians with the Arcean and me remaining neutral.
All I know is I need to start playing on tough. Playing with the AI on bright and it still does a lot of dumb planetry mistakes. The way it sets up its planets really seems illogical and inefficient. I'd expect it on the easier settings, but it seems a bit excessive on bright.
I like the idea that they cost a tile as well. That's what strategy is all about. Making choices and sometimes they have to be hard choices. It's not about getting what you want without sacrifice.
Do you think it would be possible to implement fighter hangs for the heavy capital ships and then load up your tiny to small hulled ships on them for even more epic combat? Was thinking that would be a good idea for a patch, what do you all think?
Well, I just drooled on my keyboard. Thanks.
I try to have a decent reserve of cash for war, so I'll quick buy a ship just to intercept the transport. Let's be honest, the AI isn't in the habit of escorting their transports. At least on Bright it isn't.
Can't you just toggle off OWNERSHIP next to the mini map?
By the way.. I disagree about not every planet not needing a star port. If the planet is higher than a 4 then it gets a starport and a factory. You never know when you could use an extra rushed ship in case the unexpected happens, plus the 1 BC for maitenence is not that much of a killer.
My theory would be that after a war you need to do what nations do in real life. Rebuild. Remake their planets to suit YOUR not the needs they were suiting your opponent. It might be tempting to just blitz off opponent after opponent, but its a sure fire way for your Empire to rot from the core.
Tech victory was my first victory. I was evil and the Yor went hog wild on the galaxy so they left me alone. Seems like Tech victory is sort of a fail safe victory if you have a lot of turns and are safe. I wonder if the AI ever goes for it.
I was wondering if I should ignore sensors, life support, and defenses on my fighters and just go for engines and weapons. I'm not sure if this would make them more useless or would they work well like that? Just asking because I plan on going one more difficulty level up from challenging. What's everyone's take on fighters? (Tiny, small, and medium hulled ships)
I think only general control would work. Tactical wouldn't. We have to remember, well at least to me, that one fighter does not represent one fighter. Sure, it could be a 1 for 1 deal with capital ships, but do you honestly think only ONE defender is covering the orbit of a planet?
The sad part is.. for all the hassle you need to go through to play Half-Life 2 and how worried they are worried about how their then $50+ precious game is going to get pirated.. they failed to realize one thing.. 1. Gal Civ II has no piracy protection. 2. Gal Civ II is cheaper. 3. Gal Civ II and Stardock have a fanbase that is actually loyal to the company. 4. Gal Civ II is actually leaps and bounds better than Half-Life 2.<b
Honestly, I never support corporations or large companies and if someone can pirate a game, I generally say, "Good work" for somebody when they do. When it comes to Stardock and Galactic Civilizations, I'll tell you this, I just straight up hand over the cash. When I tell someone about the game they ask me for a good torrent site and I just say, "Just buy it. It's a quality product and you won't get buyers remorse." and they listen just be
It's fine by adding some comic relief, but there seems to be so little creativity to make the techs be a bit more than just their name. The Gal Civ II universe is so fricken awesome and well crafted that it is a shame that the techs arn't fleshed out at all.
Actually, I found the descriptions of the technology really lacking and poor. The game itself is excellent, but seeing "w00t" and "r0x0rz" for the descriptions on some techs really is bad and takes out the immersion of the game.
If it takes place after Gal Civ 1 then why do we only have one planet and are back to square one on starting techs? I WANT MY RANGERS AT THE START! Teasing of course!
Yeah it can be! As my custom race, I tried to pick off a very weak and Empire-locked Terran Alliance only to have them really effectively use their small fleet against mine. I'm making progress, but they really are making me bleed for every par-sec of space I take.
I've noticed that a lot of the time, on the "Bright", difficulty setting the AI rarely escorts their troop transports or if it does, it is in a severely inadequat way. Isn't this something I should expect to see on cakewalk or something, but not where most algorithyms are already in place?

I know there can be a sad face by your planets, but I've had my popularity drop to 1%. Besides the Fundamentalist movements can your planets break off and rebel by forming their own "minor races" like in the first one? Was just curious.
Only saw the the Technology Conquest one and that one is... average.. at best. I am working on a military one and I am hoping it is a bit better.
I'm playing on Bright right now. I have maybe... 3 trade routes that I am using. I am making a tidy profit, running my economy at 100%, but do have the third largest Empire. Oh yeah.. I'm evil as well and gearing for war. Trading is a BIG help, but not 100% necessary.
Miniturization is your friend. I bee line for advanced miniturization right away and that lets me create pretty decent early game fighters/heavy fighters for some early game warfare or for some early game defense/ arm dealing. I usually have espionage on all my neighbors and just research counters to them.
