well they do get +50% research, free defending drones, and +25%hp while in their territory. they're naturally good defenders and good researchers.
OK, the research bonus is enough to move the Iconians to D-tier. The defending drones are worthless – they get immediately destroyed in any battle. At best they delay the inevitable by one turn. The defensive bonus is rarely enough to move the needle.
I wonder if it would be cool if kinetic attacks disabled repair for a time?
No. I thought I saw (but probably misinterpreted) kinetic weapons being more effective against stations than ships and I thought that was a good idea, even if that wasn't what was actually happening. I recall missile ranged attacks having zero effect on stations which is fine too, even if not terribly realistic. What would
did anyone know about that 50% thing? i didnt, it wasnt in any update logs, i recently asked about people using defenses and no one mentioned anything about it. it didnt show up clearly in the battle log. no one knew it was there i think. i honestly would have played around with it to check it out if i had known it existed. 10% is something, but still pretty low i think. maybe up it to 20 or 25% at least and see what people think. but pl

Generally when you declare war, your diplomacy goes so far negative that you will be locked into war until they are destroyed or the game ends. I haven't much luck bribing an ally to come to my side either. Well, I haven't had much luck creating an ally at all (+9 diplomac
so what's so bad about the Iconians?
First of all is there anything good about them? They're defensive and they don't have any meaningful boosts to anything useful. They hate the Yor so you can't use the "plant a Yor" artifact on their worlds or you tank their approval. If I'm missing something, let's hear it.
this might be due to the building being destroyed in the invasion.
That would be consistent. I suppose this is a consequence of the constraint that unique buildings can only be built once on a world. You can't, for example, raze your capital and rebuild it somewhere else because a better location opened up. I can't say I hate this mechanic. Actions do have consequences. My own frustration is that you can't even
I would put the Baratak Grove much higher. The ability to make dead worlds into colonies is pretty big. I know it got nerfed a bit, but only a bit. And I found the Xeloxi the hardest to play because you had a very small homeworld and no one likes you. Also bad command ships
I could easily move the Baratak up a level and Xeloxi down a level.
what

Keyboard shortcuts to move units in 6 directions Repeat button for all shipyard projects Allow us to queue improvements on unavailable tiles that already have a tile rescuer queued up on them Change the built-in zoom 1-5 shortcuts, make 1-3 zoomed much further out so we can zip around without the mouse (4-5 are okay)
Promethion seems like it's not very useful once you've built a few special research buildings (unless you're the onyx).
If you don't need to build ships then you can spam research projects. If you do need to build ships then just sell them to the galactic bazaar to fund your war effort. I've had the opposite problem. If there is no promethion available then it is very difficult to boost your research. You can'
No GalCiv game has ever been what I think it should be until about 1.5 years after release. But this is NOT a comparison like a lot of games that "ship before they are ready". GalCiv is just very deep and complex. The difference is that a game like CalCiv...if some stuff is missing...or some things "seem useless until a patch"....the overall game is still enjoyable (as opposed to an RPG where stuff l
but how you design a fleet should be a big part of the game i think. it's just a strange contradiction in the game it seems... that everything revolves around combat, and yet combat seems to be something they're mostly ignoring in regards to really changing up how things work from how it worked 16 years ago. and nothing even has accurate descriptions. none of the weapons do, no real description on ship roles, no description on how defen

Everyone loves tier lists, right? Here's my 0.9 tier list for all of the races currently in the game. This is just the base race, no customizations or adjustments, and based on a balanced map. S-tier: Yor, Mimot A-tier: Drengin, Festron Hunt, Drath, Corporate Sector, Baratak Grove B-tier: Onyx Hive, Baratak Grove , Torian, Altarian C-tier: Terran, Arcean, Navigators, Krynn D-tier: Manti, <span style="te
also ship roles are being completely ignored it seems. there's no info anywhere on them and it seems you've made 0 changes to the ship roles throughout all of alpha and beta.
Personally I'd rather them remove ship roles and maybe reintroduce the concept in an expansion. It is an unnecessary complication and "fixing" it wouldn't fix any of the bigger problems with the game.

It's funny to me because after over 100 hours in this game, I'm not really bothered by any of the things you pointed out except for the research mechanic. It's a big game, it's new, some things are going to take a while to get used to. Following are my top reasons why I believe this game is not even remotely close to ready for release: Disconnects between the UI and reality are so pervasive that it feels like the developers are trolling us beta-testers. I complain a lot

This is getting kind of ridiculous. I didn't have any ship destroyed. I don't know why there are so many disconnects between the text and what's actually happening, but that's where we are in 0.9. I don't have a save file for this one. Also the battle viewer is pretty when it works but it fails to put any ships on the screen so frequently that, well, come on. Do I have a save file? No, but I think it is intermittent. <img src="https://cdn.stardoc

I think informational messages (e.g., your treasure hunter finished) should be left panel messages, not popups. I don't even think the game should ask you to confirm asteroids, colonies, etc. You sent the ship there. You don't have to confirm supply ships and freighters...
One of the effects of the GC3 population based production system (where each 1B population = 1 raw production) was that it meant that there was actually a real opportunity cost of taking 1B population and sending them off-planet on a colony ship or whatever. Because Raw Prod was the base unit of: Production, Research, Wealth, and Influence, getting the -1 to all of these was actually fairly significant. I can see why Star
