I'm not a SD dev, but I have no problem calling it a moan thread, because that is where we're at. It could be worse. When I first played Rogue War and Lords of Magic, that didn't last very long. I wrote off my purchase, showed little mercy in my reviews, and moved on. Galciv3 has addictive elements that make me long to play, and issues that make me go "uuuuuuhhhhhhhh" long into the night.

Are Quantum power plants just gone? The table says QPPs are an upgrade from Fusion power plants, yet at the same time the absence of a FPP is a prerequisite to build QPP. If both are true, you can't build them. This matches what I'm seeing in my game. I researched the tech, I am building the Singularity PP now. But no option to build Quantum is available whether a Fusion is already built or not. The Tech Tree clearly has a little thumbnail on it saying

I have sometimes bought on Steam in $USD because the $CAD prices were more expensive, so I get it. If it's a different price in a different market, the price difference should not be more than the spread you pay to convert currencies. I.e. if Visa wants to keep 1% of your transaction because you converted Euros to dollars, then okay, but don't make the game cost 10% more in Europe than the U.S., or vice-versa. Especially Asia. I'm tired of cutting China a break becau

Very illuminating, thank you. So our focus should be on the hyperdrives. Maybe large ships should just be slow, lumbering hulks loaded with defense which rely on fleet support modules and favor particle beams? And the second and fourth drives are cheaper than the first and third? Interesting.

Military SB works better at the low tech (where boosting a stat by 1 means a lot more). Then Commanders take over in importance, as your logistics goes up. You need to use Carriers to leverage the military SB at high techs. The nice thing is, if you've got a relic and nothing near it, all you have to do is choose a military ring (for free) instead of cultural, and you've got it. That gives you 2 extra hexes range, maybe to park it next to an asteroid. If

I just started a godlike Insane map. Which first off, the map lives up to its name, big-time. But anyway.... My trade ship strategy doesn't work so much vs. the Drengin. Drengin care about military might, and that's it. However, I'm playing military starbases, and they work even better than in Galciv2. The trick around the administration problem is to park them on relics. You were going to claim those anyway, so if there is no useful mining

This one is probably going to erode my interest in Galciv3 much more quickly now. I've got two different games where I initially met the Altarians and/or Drengin, and I offer Open Borders to them as soon as I meet them. What can I get for that? 40bc, and that's it? Nope--how about EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR SHIPS. So I initially meet the Altarians, and I get a 2 colony ships, 3 constructors, 2 survey ships, and 2 trade ships. For OP

With various support ticketing systems I've used, support has to ask the customer for permission to close the ticket. And then if you have the occasional PITA customer who refuses to close the ticket unless you give him the game for free and start the game with 1000000bc, there is an escalation process. The team has weekly meetings with a spreadsheet of open tickets on the projector, and for long-open tickets, the manager asks for an update. These "you're stupid. Cas

I'm trying a new trick now where I slap a long-range missile on my second survey ship, cargo hull. It's still a survey ship and still can't survey defended anomalies alone (nor do I want it to), but it has an added function, as a fast raider of defenseless stuff. I name it the Gremlin.

I am totally a Civ fan and a Stardock fan, but I must say Civ5 is the better 4x strategy game because of the 3 X's: execution, execution, execution. The ideas are there, the concepts are there. The UX is actually better than Civ. Galciv3 is not executing to a finished product. And that is a recurring problem, because that plagued Elemental as well. But I'm still going to play Galciv.

Commanders rock and roll. That alone might do it for you. Carriers only suck if you have support class ships in your fleet. Military starbases and freighters are Galciv2 strategies that I've been applying to Galciv3, so I can't say for sure how the AI responds to them, but I can say that I've been doing it and Godlike AI has put up a fight and that's about it. I can say for a fact in Galciv3 that you can beat brute force with speed. Fast sensor ships

Software companies frequently charge pennies on the dollar in Asian markets, because of all the pirating. It's considered perfectly OK to pirate, especially when it's a western software company you're pirating from. So the software salesmen say, "Hey, I'll make you a deal. For really cheap, you can be legal.". It's BS, and the killed Trans-Pacific deal was supposed to help with that. It's rewarding Asia for pirating. You're certainly not going to get

I'm spanking godlike AI so far, although I'm not playing large maps yet. Have you tried a military starbase? First, it seems the AI's don't respect your military might too much, which is why they declare war. Stationing ships with high attack in a starbase zoc, and then having the starbase boost their attack further is a good way to flap your arms and roar like a bear at them. And second, if they're already at war, they tend to send their ships

The #1 reason I frequent this forum now is looking for strategy, so I'll try one strategy: I'm still working on a good build order for a research world; and, for that matter, selecting the research world. A few of the challenges I am facing: - You can't build the Galactic core on your home world, but your home world's capital improvement has extra research. You can cr
