Good point. There is also a large number of muslims who refuse to integrate here in germany, and there's a lot of trouble yet to come, I'm afraid. It's often an escalating spiral - ghettos where the non-integrated stay among them selves worsens the situation and makes successfull integration of the 2nd or 3rd generation immigrants far less plausible. Non-integration leads to poverty, and poverty and hopelessness lead to all kinds of extremisms. (Just c

"...might have something to do with the French riots. " Wrong guess. The assumption that the Islam is responsible for the riots in France seems to be very common in the US, but it's very rare here in europe. In general, most europeans believe that the riots were the result of poverty/unemployment, lack of perseptives etc - social problems, not religious extremism. (It is true, though, that muslim extremists took advantage of the situation, but tha

Just had a look at the example you mentioned, legendde... A little clarification - the fighters in the example do attack first because they are the attackers, not because they are fighters. The attacker always gets the first shot. To the question of balancing smaller and larger ships... first of all, a 40 HP ship isn't that capital - there are larger hulls in the game. And fr

Good point, Phoenix. Well, the influence boundary still gives an indication about where enemy territory is (since it is centered around the colonies), but would be rather unprecise because influential races would be percieved as a larger threat, even if their military is weak. So, just checking how close the route comes to enemy planets probably would be more accurate.

Noticed the same thing - I'm currently at war with the Arceans and they are sending dozens of freighters through my territory to rebuild their trade with some minor races. I'm hoping that in gamma/release this will be better. Hm, I think checking wether a trade route will go through/near my space should'nt be to CPU-intensive. Take a straight line from the starting planet to the target planet (to make it a bit easier) and a) check wethe

Well, as you may guess, the story got A LOT attention here in the german media. It's a typical case of 'common sense vs. law'. Those two don't get along to well most of the times, neither here in germany nor anywhere in the world. See, it's obvious to every sane person that the whole thing is just sick and is, of couse, murder - but if you try to apply german law to it, the situation gets kinda weird because, well, when the law was written

The Minbari would stop and medidate about the turtle for three days and then maybe continue. The Drazi... well, assuming the turtle is green, there is a 50% chance for it getting run over and a 50% for being saved.

even if the division between Protestant and Catholicism is splitting hairs (I gather from your post). Totally. I am from a catholic familiy, so before I was old enough to leave it, I had catholic religion as a subject. And more than once, when I came into the room where the protestants had had their class, I

Okay, I was a bit lazy and tried to keep it short, that led to some misunderstandings. And just how in the hell do you propose to teach those subjects "without" teaching about the religon behind them? You got me wrong - should have phrased it clearer, sorry. Of cause they should be taught about t

Uhm, I think you're mixing things up. As Dr.Guy said: There's a difference between teaching religion and about religion. To put it short, my opinion is: Teach about holy roman empire, crusades, Luther, Tibet, whatever: Of cause! Historical facts, everybody should learn them. But teach people: Our god (be it the Christian god, Allah, Buddha, whatever) is the right one and you have to worship him and if you disagree, you're in trouble: No. I think that's what must people mean

I very much agree with your list, Draginol. Regarding point 5 - which is one point where people seem to disagree a lot - I'd make the suggestin: Just give us some more options during installation! Because I think both sides have valid points. I can understand that there are people who like an OS that comes with everything bundled (WMP, zip/rar etc.) but then there are guys like me who want 'just an OS' and prefer

Dr.Guy, while I agree with you that the remark is tasteless, I strongly think that it doesn't make sense to use it as an excuse to rant about 'the French'. Similar remarks/'jokes' have been made in british newspapers and in germany itself. In all cases, it's a few people who said this kind of stupid thinks, and not the whole nation. I guess a lot of french people are as upset about it as you are. I mean.... come on... what wou

Interesting, we don't have so much Blizzard fanboys over here in europe. As you may know, WoW just launced last weekend in europe and the launch went similiar to the US launch: Servers down, endless waiting times ('489/489') etc. But in the german WoW-forums, there is a total lack of fanboyism. EVERYBODY was just 'Hey, haven't you *****s learned from the US launch? Hey you *****s fix the *****! Hey I'm gonna sue you *****s! Hey you loose a co

a) I buy your games because they rock and are quality, although I disagree with you on political issues most of the time. b) I prefer CEOs who speak open about their opinion regarding politics to those who secretly use their influence/money to influence politics.

Yeah, I saw that on Penny Arcade and was very happy about it... you know, the strange kind of happiness you feel when you discover that two things you have a high opinion of also have a high opinion about each other.

Okay I don't say much but I have to comment on this one! I stumbled upon joeuser via galciv of which I am a huge fan. And that is due to the fact that galciv is a STRATEGY game. I love strategy and that's why I hate most of the RTS games out there. I think the concept of realtimeSTRATEGY is great, but most of the games are just REALTIMEstrategy. They are just about who can click faster and optimize his build-up phase. Worst example is WarCra

Good point, you're correct. Let's just say it's rude and weird in another way. Maybe the French could learn from it and start asking you wether you killed any native americans every time you travel to France.

Well, talking about Visas... and rudeness... it works both ways. Every time I visit the US, I (and every other german travelling to the US) have to fill out a declaration that I didn't perform any cruelities during WWII, that I didn't take part in the crimes of the Nazi regime etc. I think this is rather embarassing. Especially because I was born in 1979.

Wow.... I spend all my life believing I live in a country which is slowly going downwards... with a fucked-up economy and a rising number of unemplyoed people... in continent of always disagreeing vastly different nations... but I was wrong, I am part of a monstrous superpower - this makes me feel good! Thanks Marvin!

Well... I am from Europe (germany, to be precise) and I can assure you that from the 'inside', pretty much nothing is developing with light speed. The unification process of europe is pretty much limited to the economical sector, everything else is pretty much like it always was: Still a bunch of nations with differing politics who often can't stand each other. On the political scene, the EU doesn't have
