Ok, I got a repeatable version of the problem, captured in this zipped save game. In the upper right of the map, there is an orange fleet called "Trouble", containing two vessels, 'Outlander', and 'Gwinavere'. Choose 'Outlander', go to it's details and upgrade to a 'DD Guideon-1103'. Then de-fleet the upgrading ship. It will disappear from the game. Something that may be worth noting is that as soon as it's upgrading (but b

What I'de like to see in the "More Politics" category: Where you can spend money either improving or degrading relationships between the races. The financial equivalent of praising one empire to another, or talking crap about them behind their back.

Mine isn't disabled, but it does disappear for about 5-10 seconds, and then come back. It does that regularly. I've chosen to enable CPU intensive AI, so I'm guessing that the computer is doing heavy number crunching at that time.

Does 3.5 sector mean 3.5 sectors x 15 squares/sector = 52.5 squares? Ship Yard(sct) Main(sect) Range(sq) sq/sect sq/sct #1 1.8 2.5 48 19.20 26.67 #2 2.9 3.5 64 18.29 22.07 Allowing for my counts to be off by a couple, they still seem to be different ranges of value, not particularly close to 15 squares/sector. Maybe some free range to begin with.

For big maps (or abundant anomalies) the cargo hull and Ion drives can have a speed-6 surveyer very soon. I rush-buy the first one, because if it finds a dozen anomalies or so, it will pay for itself. After that it's salvage for fun and profit, and the bonuses along the way are gravy. Plus it can be upgraded to a constructor or freighter or sensor platform when it's primary mission is over.

I'll try to repeat it with a custom-named ship, and watch the ship list. Edit:Eh, won't show up on demand; a finicky little phantom. I'll do quicksaves whenever I have the opportunity to upgrade a fleet member. ...And I'm gonna have to rename the next planet I invade Alpha Krappa Corp.

@Suralle, I was getting ready to invade the neighbors, and so I set a military base within range, and started assembling a fleet. Then here comes their political liason, and tells me "You wouldn't be planning an invasion, would you?" It was great! For range extension, next time I'm gonna try an economic starbase, as it might pass under the radar. About the range reporting discrepency: Tried adding a second basic (1.1) module to an empty cargo hull. That's hull(0.7

And p.s., The first time I saw this, I figured I musta missed something. The second time, I remembered the first time and began to suspect something was amiss. The third time I wrote a song about it. Wanna hear it? Here it go...

Start game, build a cargo hull, and add one basic life support. Shipyard says the hull has range 0.7, and adding the life support (1.1) takes it up to 1.8. Go to planet, and build one. When it comes out, the mini-report says range is 2.5sct. Look at actual range of vessel: It can travel 48 squares (3 large + 3 small). It would be real handy if the 'range' value was listed in squares that the ship will travel in one turn, if you build it.

I set a fleeted ship to upgrade, then think better of it and de-fleet the upgrading ship. There was only two ships in fleet, so fleet is gone. But so is the ship that was upgrading.

I'de like to have a set of "Deform" buttons in the ship designer. They would be similar to the rotate and scale buttons. There would be three toggleable (x, y, z) sliders. That way, each part could be stretched and squished. Another thing that would be cool is some sort of invisible bounding box for the model, so we could have moving parts that wouldn't mess up the scale.

Is this an argument? Can I play? heh. One of the amazing things about hull size in this game is miniaturization. It makes everything smaller by increasing the effective room on a hull. So another way to look at it is that there is an array of hull sizes to choose from, depending on hull tech and miniturization tech. Hull Size Basic Enhanced Advanced Expert Ultimate Supreme 100% 110% 125% 140% 155% 175% 200%<tr

A lot of arguments against carriers, so heres a couple points for carriers: Carriers are part of most of the science fiction genre, much like shields and warp drives. Carriers are a real-world tech improvement. Carriers would introduce support ships to the battlefield. Naming...I like the way it's done currently, with ship class + serial number. Any of my mediums and above that gain a lot of experience deserve special recognition; for those elite warriors, I'll give them a name

If you are using C++, there is a tiny xml library on sourceforge. It can get info out of xml files and right into your program.

I made a post praising Space empires 4 and Space Empires 5 and listing features but it was removed. It was probably removed because it was one long run-on paragraph with messed up links in it, which eventually blended into a cut-and-paste from somewhere else. Looked more like an accident or computer glitch than a message from someone. <a h

Hey, just finished a large game with a view to keeping my biggest shipyards in a group. It worked out excellent; ships could fleet up at a rally point near the edge of the group, and then head out to the front lines. In the end, the Arceans asked for peace, I said I'll trade it for their last three worlds, and they said no way. Until about five turns later, they finally surrendered and handed 'em over anyway. Sensible folks.
