There's been some discussion of thew captains log recently, some people seem to want something they can just write notes in, some people want ti to autolog stuff you do. Personally, I would like it to be both, I guess. Hopefully it will track things I do and conversations I have with aliens, so I can read over them again later. I would also like to be able to write whatever notes I want in there, but also to click on something on the starmap and have it auto-populate coordinates for t

Thanks for the update Brad. Exiting stuff! I'm stoked that the number of people working on SCO has shot up so drastically - time for some real action! I can't wait to be involved and hopefully add my tiny part into making this the best game possible.
Yeah. I was following TLJH since mid/late last year and really looking forward to it because it was advertised as a homage to SC2, and I thought it would scratch that itch whole waiting for SCO. It did not. It's absolutely awful and, like you, I stopped after 2 hours (118 minutes, in fact) and got a Steam refund. I went into their discord and told the developers what my issues with the game were and they actually seem like a really decent bunch of guys who are a
I do not get the removing of hyperspace either.
See the other current live thread. It now appears that hyperspace hasn't gone gone, so much as changed a but (for the much better).
Anyone on discord can go in and see a video where Frogboy is discussing hyperspace. And it's converted me. I fully agree with him and his points. It's not about just magically warping to a new system, it's basically like just zooming out further and seeing the starmap but you're flying in it (moving towards your mouse or whatever) and you can see the systems, maybe other ships, anomalies etc. MUCH better than the boring red screen of SC2's hyperspace with just black swi
Let us at least have the chance to try it and agree with you
Especially as it was already in the game and has now been removed..? It must have been replaced with something pretty good to take out something they had already spent effort on making. That gives me some hope...
I kind of have to agree. Brad, can you tell us what you replaced it with?
The question is with what was Hyperspace journey replaced with in Origins?
Actually, you know, you're right. I was thinking quasispace while writing hyperspace. I could live without quasispace (warp points between starbases or whatever would do as well) but hyperspace would seem an odd one to remove - I wouldn't like to go back to just jumping from system to system like in TheStarConThatMustNotBeNamed...
I've spoken my mind regarding hyperspace.
I mean, I'll miss hyperspace, but I can live with it. It's not like it added a massive important facet to gameplay, really.
Well, I'll post some. There doesn't seem to be a WHOLE lot going on on the discord either. I loved this update, loads of cool stuff to read through and much eye candy. A lot of the discussion of the game and design philosophy is stuff Brad has shared before, so I don;t have a lot to say on that except "you're doing good as far as I can see, keep up the good work". The sector map comparison SC2 to "what we can do in 2017" I assume the 2017 is representative, because it has

To me that is still playing a single universe game.No different to reading a Space Opera Novel, finishing it and then reading a Murder Mystery. No connection to each other. I was under the assumption they wanted a Multiverse game and for that to happen you need the Universes to transition from one to the other seamlessly.Don
I just think it's hilarious that people (mostly one person) are arguing about how good a feature is that they haven't even seen or playtested yet. Like, chill out, if someone from SD who has been doing it all the time for 8 months isn;t sick of it yet, then it's probably fine. It's still a game, if you're going to taker out every little thing that might require some skill (even if it's just for the sake of it) then why make a game at all? Then you may as well m
This is an example of what I would surround each ship with.
I hate to say, I really hate this (sorry IB). I want to view the ships fighting without having all this info around them. I can flick my eyes to the side of the screen quickly to gauge my crew and energy reserves when I want to, and the other 98% of the time I just
Just going to point out that the video we got was a teaser..just because the lander sequence took 12 seconds there doesn't mean that is how long it will be in game.
Agreed. Especially since in the video he clearly didn't cover the entire planet. You don't see everything on a sphere by starting at a single point and going around it once and back to where you started...
The issue with an isometric view, is it gives a slight advantage if your opponent is "above you" on screen, and a slight disadvantage if they are "below you" on the screen, because the slight angling of the view extends vision in that direction. Also, there's the whole nostalgia thing for me since SC1 and SC2 were top-down, but of course this game isn't being designed just with old farts like me in mind who were even alive 25 years ago to play the originals, so that shouldn
On another not I would really like to make a Starflight mod or remake for this game. Some of the fan based stuff has been decent, but the series has fallen off because nobody wants to take on the monumental task to taking it on properly.
Oh man, that would be freaking awesome. I still love Starflight, even after all these years. That big twist/reveal at the end still haunts me.
I agree on not dropping reality in such a big way for the sake of the game with the magic ability to teleport between starbases. But, of course, the game always comes first and the story second in the end. Especially with an arcade game. I would create and pseudo-scientific explanation for this. Part of good game design, a big part, is “representation”. This goes both ways, back and forth, with the game and story. Have an early
Starbases- I love this idea and some would tend to disagree (I don’t really care), I think once you discover a base and take it over, you should have to keep a small fleet to protect it. This gives that SC1 feel to it as well. Will fast traveling have a fuel consumption? It should even if it is a reduced mount. Will these starbases offer a towing service for the chucklehead captain that runs him/herself out of fuel?
Actually, this is a really cool idea
Loving the February update, lots of good info here. I like the option to choose universe right at the start of the game. In conjunction with the comment later on about sending out mod tools early to select founders, I suspect that even by release time we may see some new universes from people right from the get-go. My question is: will this be moderated? Lets say someone wanted to recreate SC2 on Origins (which should be possible, as far as I can see). Will they be allowed to do
I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know if I'm allowed to repeat anything Brad may or may not have said (even though you're clearly also a founder) but, uh, while trying to keep things close to my chest just in case - you wont have to worry about several of the things you're worrying about.
Ooh ooh, I just had another great idea for a secondary weapon module. Presumably, the game is going to have a similar concept to SC2 where you could build up your fleet bu buying/being gifted ships by the races you befriend. But you could never get enemy ships that way, so there was never an Ur-Quan in your fleet for example. So a secondary module (or maybe it's so special it's a precursor module) that lets you send boarders from your ship. It's a bit like t
Ship Enhancements/Modules Ideas Hi all, This is just a post I wanted to make with ideas/feedback about the ship enhancements, which the developers were requesting feedback for. I'll try to structure my ideas in some kind of logical format, but I can't promise anything :-) Building up your ship with modules is a cool and thematic way to personalise your SC:O experience, and I'm a huge fan of it. I loved
Also, I sincerely hope we never actually *find* the Precursors. There's no way they can live up to what I've made them out to be in my mind. That's the reason I've dreamed about them for decades - they're mysterious, they're high powered... and they're *gone*.
This. This guy gets it. I don't ever want to meet the precursors in game (SC3 never happened, lala
It just occurred to me that I never posted in here, even though I've been a founder for a while now. Anyway, hi, I'm Brian from New Zealand. Longtime fan of the series, but especially SC2 where my mate and I would spend hours and days and weeks playing supermelee against each other. I still have my original boxed copies of SC1 and SC2, and I even still have my original copy of StarFlight, which SC was a spiritual successor of. Very stoked, and looking forward to this g
just not 100% happy with the mario kart style planet scouting
My only beef with it is that it looks (but I can't be sure until I play the thing, obviously) like it would be hard to know that you had traversed the entire planet and not missed anything. I hate the idea that I may have just not spotted something on the surface because I zipped around but didn't happen to go past the one important par
