Usually, when I redesign my site , I choose a theme and then overhaul the CSS/Formatting to fit my needs and, generally, to remove the fixed-width nature of most Wordpress themes. This time, that’s not the case. The new theme, designed by Design Disease struck me as being so completely perfect for what I was looking for in a design and the color palette is nothing short of superb . At some point

Dammit. Why can't I edit that?
I hate you .
I'm not sure where you got your numbers, but for the revolutionary war: "An estimated 25,000 American Revolutionaries died during active military service. About 8,000 of these deaths were in battle; the other 17,000 deaths were from disease, including about 8,000 who died while prisoners of war . The number of Revolutionaries seriously wounded or disabled by the war has been estimated from 8,500 to 25,000. Th
I absolutely love this "rise of the social single-player game" sort of mini-march I'm seeing occur in the industry right now with games like Spore, Fable 2, and Animal Crossing. With the announcement of The Sims 3 came a great deal of information about what EA Sims felt were the important parts of the Sims 2 and, thankfully, it seems they truly understand what was important about The Sims as a franchise. When it comes down to it, the Sims has never been about house decoration nor has it been
Shining Force 2 is probably one of my favorite games of all-time. There's something about tactical RPGs that I find endlessly enjoyable. Tactical RPGs, First-Person Shooters, Real-Time Strategy, and Hack-and-Slash Action/RPGs are without a doubt my favorite genres of games. And, yes, a lot of RTSs suffer from a case where there is a definite best strategy, especially in the early game. Warcraft 3, for instance, is all about a near-perfect build order in the beginning of the game
Yeah, I meant to mention Total War in the article. That blends two completely different types of games (turn-based and real-time strategy) which is a similar idea to what I mention at the end but a very different execution.
Video games are such a fantastic medium. I just finished playing through Gears of War cooperatively with a friend over Xbox Live and it was absolutely enjoyable, hilarious, and challenging as hell. As a child of the, uh, Manboy Generation? YouTube Generation? Whatever kind of generation I’m a part of, growing up with video games has obviously had a large influence on my life being that I am what some may consider a "hardcore gamer" along with being a game developer, designer, and so on.
The main problem with Gun Control, much like DRM in a lot of media, is that the more restrictions that the government places on the purchasing of firearms, the more that the people who buy guns who should be buying guns have to jump through the most hoops. People who have gone to Gun Safety seminars, know about proper gun use, maintenance, and handling, and are everyday "normal" people with no history of mental illness or anything else have to deal with the most crap when purchasing
At this point, I think that it's fairly safe to say that the meat of Asplode! is finished. All of the primary gameplay is in place, the enemies are all implemented and handled in a state that I'm fond of, and the player controls, responses, and such are all implemented. At this point any more features that I add to the gameplay portion of the game are either polish points or experimental ideas that I may or may not keep as part of the game (a few automatic weapon upgrades, various id
Following my cohort 's lead, I'm going to list some things or trends in video games which bug me in some way shape or form. Poorly-Placed Checkpoints : In games which have a checkpoint save system, the checkpoints are occasionally very poorly laid out; when the player overcomes a particularly difficult/annoying puzzle or makes it through a rough
Not that I spent recent nights playing stuff like Army of Two, Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer, Company of Heroes, Master of Magic, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Bully, Ratchet & Clank, Geometry Wars, Everyday Shooter, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, or God of War: Chains of Olympus instead of actually updating my dev journal or anything... But, yeah. Pretty much did exactly that. I've still gotten a bit done on Asplode! every night but, by this point, I'm mostly making va
Great post, Brad, but I'd just be repeating the conversation from the office with anything else I had to say. One note to Uranium, though, as sort of a tangential conversation to the point of the article: comparing the aggregate review scores on multiplatform games is a pretty silly thing to do. Even if you took into account the varying number of reviews and sources that aggregate sites take into account, there's still the fact that, in some cases, completely different sites review gam
Kurthy, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm fairly certain you got lost on the way to a fourth-grade class in the written word (and, at that point, failed to attend any grammatically-relevant class after that day). Your comment was not only completely incomprehensible and irrelevant but you seem to have taken to learning the taste of your own poophole in favor of learning how to spell "defecate" correctly. And, no, Zoologist, you are not strange for that. I don't mean to spo
Mass Effect had an absolutely terrible implementation of the right idea. I loved the conversational portion of the game (far moreso than the game itself, actually) but not only were the moral choice completely basic -- I mean, there were extreme answers that, in some cases, were HIGHLIGHTED IN RED or BLUE to indicate just how extreme they were to the evil/good side -- but they also had
You are correct: this game is absolutely fantastic. I bought it withou having much of an idea what it actually is and all of the great things people have been saying about it are entirely true. I'm not even a fan of card-based games whatsoever and this game still manages to own my soul.
It seems like it's time for the video game industry to grow up and realize that it needs to start producing games with the idea that the experience they provide to gamers is one wholly unique to the industry. I finally saw There Will Be Blood earlier this week and, after witnesses the absolutely mind-numbingly fantastic performance of Daniel Day-Lewis I came to a fairly obvious realization: g
Former intern-turned-remote-worker Nick told me that I should start posting some of the development journal entries that I have been previously posting over at my GameDev.net dev journal here. So that's what I'm doing. If the idea of developing a top-down space shooter in the fashion of Robotron is an attractive one to you, then I'd recommend reading the backlog of
There have been a startling number of PC-Games-Are-Dying sort of statements coming out lately, the latest of which coming from Cliff Bleszinski of Unreal Tournament fame. This statement no doubt related to the poor sales numbers of Epic's own Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War PC. I suppose it's worth noting that Gears of War PC was released almost a year after its 360 version an
I think a better headline for this article would be: PEOPLE HATE YOUR ARTICLES - MAKE THEM WORTH READING WITH FORMATTING!!@!~ONE!~! Yes. That's the Drudge Siren.
I did some searching, and I think I found it. WWW Link
Yeah. That's the one. Kieron Gillen is absolutely amazing (as is the rest of Rock, Paper, Shotgun).
Please make a sequel to Planescape: Torment. So true. There was an article floating around a while back that had the entirety of the P:T design document in it. The thing was absolutely hilarious and an interesting look into the reasoning for various design choices in the game.
