I reviewed the files last night and I couldn't find anywhere that the economic bonuses for the various government types could be changed. Does anyone know that if these numbers can be changed? I personally feel that the Imperial form of government is over-penalized considering how hard it would be to run a centralized decentralized federation and wanted to change things to reflect more "realism" over gameplay.

Even in an unrealistic game, weekly turns make no sense. Why not have each turn be 1 second or less? A week makes no more sense than that.
Aren't the turns a week? This has ruined my ability to suspend disbelief, which is part of the appeal of any strategy game. I have to say that is the single biggest disappointment I have with the designers of the game (the feature that bothers me the most is the ship design/upgrade feature, but I understand why that is in the game). Why make that change?
I have a lot of issues with the game that probably can't be fixed (I consider the entire ship building/upgrade side of the game to be a major annoyance; suffice it to say I find it easier to design a new class every time I get a new weapon or engine rather than messing around with the buggy upgrade feature) but one issue that I think should be fixed concerns obsolete ship designs. When you mark a design as obsolete, it disappears from the shipyard screen, but it does not disappear f
Thanks, very helpful responses. I tried to use the more even distribution of stars, but for some reason the maps did not turn out very well. I still think that under tight clusters, the map generator should be able to avoid the huge gaps that appear on the map, but its not a big deal. Pop growth should be some kind of a percentage of total population, economic growth, and/or morale. Just growing at 200,000/400,000 seems very odd to me. This is not even considering the od
Some of these will seem too basic, but the forums run extremely slow for me and searching them has proved too frustrating. I played Galciv 1, and some of these are leftover issues I had with that. Anyway, here they are: 1. Farming Population Cap Increases I assume that everywhere in the manual and game where it says farming will increase the pop max cap by millions, it really means billions. I wasn't building any farming at all for the longest time thinking that the incr
That isn't a particularly simple solution. In fact, that's the reason I'm no longer playing the game. The constant updating of ship designs, the fact you have to design every ship from scratch at least once, and the extreme monotony of trying to make the design look passable is just too much. Until its patched to let me modify the basic ship designs or use them as templates for new designs, I'm moving onto to other games.
If you don't design your own ships, your colony ships will move at speed 2 for the entire game. Someone else mentioned this in another thread, but I don't understand it at all. The core ships can't be upgraded or used as templates. Ship design is great for those who want to use it. Forcing people to use it to make effective ships
The ship design feature is fine for people who want to design ships. But what about those of us who want to play the actual game for the most part? It takes forever to design a ship. It takes even longer to design one that looks decent. Why would it be so bad to let someone just upgrade the core ship designs? If I want to just fix the engines on a colony ship I shouldn't have to spend 10-15 minutes in the ship design feature. I liked galciv 1, but I am about to abandon galciv 2 o
I'm 3-4 drive systems beyond the original tech and I can't upgrade the core ship design. The upgrade button is greyed out all the time. Incidentally, not allowing players to build survey ships early is a good idea. I was impressed with that feature.
1. Please let players turn off the minor races I have tried to find this option everywhere, but it doesn't seem to exist. Is there no way to take the minor races out of the game? I dislike them intensely (almost as much as I dislike the new ability to share systems with other races), but don't really wish to debate their pros and cons. I just feel if players don't want to deal with small races that do nothing but stockpile defensive ships, they should be a
I can't get the AI to use political capital on any difficulty level. The most they've spent in a campaign since I installed 1.02 is 10 and usually its 0.
The AI cheats. When the game first came out, I tried to lead a push to reduce or eliminate the cheating but apparently they decided to keep it in. Its a shame, because it makes playing on the higher levels pointless (its all about California at that point). But this is a bug. Sometimes the AI uses political capital and sometimes it doesn't. Lately I'm having trouble getting it to use it, but I did run a campaign against Vilsack where he used it. Not we
I have encountered this bug repeatedly, usually in quick play campaigns versus John Edwards or Hillary Clinton. The AI will simply not use any political capital or will use a very small amount (3) and then stop using it for the duration of the campaign. This produces extremely lopsided outcomes and makes the game hard to play. I can provide savegames and screenshots if necessary.
I think Political Machine would trend Republican if you set all the awareness' to 100%. The Iraq war and War on Terror issues favor the Republican candidate and are almost always in the top 3 issues of each state. I will say that I think the real election's exit polls will bear out that Iraq and Terror are the two biggest issues, and whichever candidate wins those two issues will probably win the election. I like that Political Machine has that dynamic.
Try the free game first. The game is heavily pro-Kerry and is becoming more so even as the election trends Bush. Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia are all Democratic leaning in the latest build. South Dakota, Arizona, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Ohio, and Colorado are all tossups in the latest build. Wisconsin, West Virginia, Pennslyvania, and Michigan are all Super-Democratic in the latest build. None of those results are accurate. In the l
How does this thread warrant a sticky?
I've had it occur three times. Clark took himself in my campaign match against him. Hillary and Gore each took themselves in quick play v. challenging.
I like the illustrations better than real pictures. Try Power Politics 3 (but keep in mind there is no save game feature as of now) if you want a slightly more realistic game.
This bug is still occuring even in the latest build. The AI takes himself as VP. I've had it happen twice today. Once with Hillary and once with Al Gore.
That feature was taken out of the final release.
Great ideas. I think many are overreaching. I still think short term, they should focus on adding more candidates with the proper artwork and revamping election night. I would also sell my soul if they would cut down on the cheating by the upper level AI. How fun is it to win an election by getting 271 electoral votes but get killed in the popular vote, over and over. I don't know why they thought that was the way to increase difficulty.<b
Personal ratings count: Look at the massive difference between spending and political capital, but Vilsack had Jefferson as his running mate. This meant he had 10's in practically every personal rating category. I would have lost this race badly except for a smear merchant and spin doctor in California.
You need to have purchased the $30 version of the game from Stardock directly so you have the political operatives pack. The political operatives pack gives you the issue editor. It allows you to create whatever issues you want.
If you build a level 3 HQ, send your political operative to Alaska. Its a practically guaranteed 3 electoral votes. Although the AI on lower levels seems to build HQ's in Alaska far more often than it should. I guess10,000 a turn is 10,000 a turn, but it still seems a waste. This is one reason I'd like to see the Tough AI cheat less. The challenging AI is in love with wasting advertisements and HQ's on states like Maine, Idaho, and Alaska.
