Gigantic crippling is my most common right now, although I've made more (abortive) attempts at maso. It's possible my opening strategies need work. I find it impossible to build enough colony ships (on abundant planets) to expand enough while at the same times researching enough *and* getting my military strength up enough to prevent AIs from making demands I cannot meet, leading to wars I cannot win. The problem I had earlier in my current game was that in order to stay militarily competitive w

Well...I'm a long time strategy gamer. After starting 4 or 5 games to get a feel for the game mechanics - and after figuring out that you don't have to build starbases on resources ;p (RTFM!) - I jumped into my crippling gigantic (I have a prediliction for excess) and demolished it. Gigantic maso is the next hurdle, although I'm gonna do some more training before I take another run at it.... and as you saw in the themed empires thread my affiliatory intentions (why use a small word when
Hmm.... Ok, well maybe I will start it up sooner rather than later. I'm agonizingly close to finishing up another crippling gigantic which I played quite differently from my last one, so I think I want to wrap that up first. Then I need at least an hour or two clear to create the communication thread and do up the flag. Look for it in the next couple days....
I agree wholeheartedly. Also later game diplomacy and peace treaty negotiation needs some work. This is total cheese but I discovered you can conquer an AI without culture bombing *or* military engagement, just so long as your military is substantially larger than theirs. I did this to Torian's - all you have to do is "give" a different AI the "attack Torian" in the diplomacy screen and then go negotiate a peace treaty with the Torian's asking them for as many star systems as they'll give you (I
Once I get few more pips on my lapel (I have three games ongoing right now, getting close to being postable) I'll be starting a semi-themed (optional for members) empire. Great concept, name, and flag - if recruitment works out I hope to be giving all you old timers a run for your money.... So for all of you who haven't quite found the right empire for you, you might want to wait a week or so until I show my colors.... [Message Edited]
I was considering it for a gigantic maso....I'm still trying to crack that one after about 4 or 5 abortive attempts. I guarentee I won't be the most powerful race until the very end.... I'm thinking of trying for a +2 speed with rare habitable planets, in order to maximize the size of my empire in comparison to the AI's.... I usually play with habitable planets on the highest setting but I find that (for maso gigantic) if I grab as much turf as possible my early population is too spread out and
I might have to give the 'lucky race' a try....
I like the sound of that. I'd venture that a good alternative to upgrading would be a certain amount of points allocatable to attack, defense, speed, HP, surveying anomalies, and whatever else they want to throw in. Your tech level then caps the number of points that can be spent on any given ship - if you want better ships you still need better tech.
Did you see the news on the galciv homepage about GC:EU? A free game booster with as many features as would be expected from a for-pay booster.... As far as I can tell from these forums (I've only been playing for a couple weeks) the developers are constantly working to provide new content....
Well...research them in moderation
I had no problem walking the fine line between good and evil, taking evil PQ responses and good or neutral for the rest. When the Alterians started spear-rattling at me because of my moral ambivalence I quickly gave them a captured start system to shut them up for a few months while I built a slew of colony ships and colonized all the class 14 planets in my sectors (this was a gigantic game with habitable planet frequency on max) - the result was a glistening white console and heavenly music...
err...morale...not moral...missed that e a few times in there
I've had no moral problems in gigantic crippling games. Sure, you always have a few planets with 30 - 70 moral, but more than half are always at 100. Many of my planets in my current gigantic crippling are PQ 20 - 24 with 20 - 35 billion people each and 100 morale. The key is to build *all* of the morale and PQ increasing social improvements on all your planets, *except* (IMHO) virtual reality centre and all of the ones that primarily increase cultural resist (because these have too hig
