I'd like a combination of the catchup with the "partners" and "dark earth" option. Earth came late to the game, and we start behind a few levels on tech. But we start out allied with the race that we first encountered, the Altarian or the Drengin. All alien races initally have more tech and a modest fleet of warships (maybe star fighters), and everyone other than your ally starts out cool-to-wary to you.

Be careful doing this early in the game when there are green asteroids around, or your survey ship will release space sharks near your planets and starbases before you are able to defend them...

If possible, hit one of the allies VERY hard in a single turn. Wipe them out with an "alpha strike" if possible, or just weaken them badly. Then sue for peace that same turn. Relations with the one you attacked will be cool to hostile, but the other one doesn't seem to notice. If you take a few of their planets with the most influence, and you have the majority of the influence starbases heavily mined, you will start to see the nearby planets you didn't conquer militarily start to

So is the Kingdom still looking for new members? I grew disillusioned with my previous empire after nobody else submitted a game for a month. I've been pretty busy the last few weeks, but I've got another game going now.

Very cool. I'll be buying the expansion pack when it comes out. The fact that it's internet-only is an advantage in my case, my wife is much less likely to hear about it and ask me not to buy it! (Somehow she doesn't always appreciate the time spent on games like Galactic Civilizations). New ships sound very nice, I hope that somebody has listened to suggestions (from Sirian?) that alignment-specific techs and ships should not be usable if you aren't currently that alignment.

Is it too late to change it to give me a third response? I like the stacking that the new poll question talks about, additive stacking. If I want to blow 200+ bc per turn getting +20 attack in a sector, that's my choice. Military, production, and trade additive stacking is reasonable, IMO. The multiplicative stacking of influence starbases seems out of whack, though. Much over about 12 party palaces, and I can send the influence meter all the way back around to zero again! (Which l

Well, one of mine was suffering, and I was trying to figure out how much I should care if the I-League wasn't around. If they can't defect to them, do I need to rush buy just too much?

If I give them a colony ship with 20 billion people on it, and they move it into orbit around a planet that can only support about the 20 billion it already has, then it sure does have a morale impact!

19 Replies 573 Views

Often times when I take over a planet, it has been stripped and now has more population than it can support, usually going down to morale 1. Other than the effect on my average morale, do I need to worry about this if the I-League doesn't exist? I tried creating colony ships with 20 billion or so people and gifting them to alien civs once, and saw the nearest planets plummet to morale 1 for _many_ years with no discernible impact. So if there is no I-League, do I need to r

And of course, the Viraxian Ascension is hiring new overlords if you are interested in joining an empire. Then you get the fun of watching your empire move up in the rankings as you submit games. Our empire is locked in a tight battle right now, and your contribution would make a significant difference! Click on my name, then on my empire name, and select "Join Empire" if interested. It's worth joining some empire if you are going to play more than a couple of games.

How about when I take over a colony that has been "stripped", launch a colony ship containing most of the population, and decomission it. I suppose that's evil ;) I tried keeping them around, but there's no purpose, and thought it might slightly hurt my military rating if they get destroyed. Had fun for a while giving these ships to the AI and watching their morale plummet, but then the planets never rebelled despite sitting at morale 1 for years and years.

16-20 is a serious battle right now, with every submitted game changing the metaverse rankings. The Arnor got a couple of previously inactive overlords to submit a new game in the last two weeks, while most of the Viraxians have been pretty quiet, but that will change.

Or just Alt-PrtSc to copy the whole browser window to your clipboard, go to MS Paint, and paste a copy of your browser in. Select and copy the dragon, and paste this into a new Paint window. Set the picture attribute size to 350x350, save, and select "Set as wallpaper". If you have a better photo editor than Paint, this is even easier. Paste into the editor, crop out everything but the dragon, save.

OK, tried a maso tiny/rare game to see what it was like. Decided to stay on 1.11 so I could run a few games with the full cheese available like players who started before I did... Ctl-N until I found a map I liked. 2 Very Nice planets in my home sector. I did the basic cringing vulture strategy until late-- Bribing everyone regularly to keep them happy, the bribing them to fight each other. And sending constructors and combat transports out next to things I wanted while they fought.

OK, I like the sound of most of the changes, not so sure about the Combat Transport defense nerf. Will help me when I'm on offense, but in the absence of a decent defensive ship past battleaxes, I've used Combat Transports for that role. Apparently I'm not the only one, and you didn't want that...

They destroyed the colony immediately-- never actually _saw_ the colony there, just colony ship after colony ship going there, then vanishing. I was worried about the Torians, since I had a big empire of rubbish planets, all 15-17 starters except for Sol at 18, and they had one starting at 22 out of my reach. But they never got too strong, and that one's mine now ;)

Something I may have to do intentionally in a future game-- I colonized a PQ16 planet, and got an event giving me a chance for about a 24% negative, 3% negative, or 8% positive change in quality. Since my gameplan was to be good, and I hadn't seen many events, I decided to take the good choice. This reduced the planet quality to 11, and I just destroyed the colony. It still showed on the map as PQ16, but when I put another colony ship there, it went straight to 11 again. I gave up, a

I also finally got that game submitted from the office, right about the same time, and that probably helped! The top 12 probably can't be caught by an empire with just a few members, but up to that point, there isn't that much difference. I'm curious-- when you wrap a game next, let me know how your points break out. Here's what I had from my last game: Social: 6503 Tech: 3279 Economy: 4885 Military: 2152 Kind of unusual game, I wound up on th

Don't think it's uploading-- don't have anything special going on right now. No proxy right now, just straight dial-up connection to the Internet. Still not working, but I'll try again.

Finished up a game late last night (OK, early this morning...), and tried to submit it. I got a "Send Test Failed" error when I tried, and I'm still getting it now. I'm connected to the Internet, but it's not working for me today. Anybody have any idea why?
