I keep thinking, "I gotta go report this bug or that bug". But you're all doing it for me. I'll just play and let you saps do the bug reports for me (I had noticed the misplaced armor and the lack of speed from nav center)

No, no, no. It's not real life, it's a game, and games need balance. If culture flipping wins *any* planet free and clear, even those with advanced techs, influence becomes far too powerful. Especially in big universes with the Iconian Refugees. Realism is good to a point. This is beyond that point.

As I understand it, OpenGL is much more difficult for the dev than Direct3D. But even if everything was open, simply QAing a whole separate product would be a nightmare. A small company will never do this to gain what isn't likely to amount to more than a 5% boost in sales. Hell, large companies rarely release linux versions anymore, and they certainly have the resources to do so. It's not financially viable. XP may suck in the worst of ways, but as long as it's the "least common de

As a huge fan of the metaverse, I'm all for anything added to the "base" game that gives more variety to the metaverse-allowed games. I'm sure there are many other cool super ability ideas that could exist, but anything would be nice.

1 more vote for more races! More races = less chance of winning, but more chance of an "angry" galaxy. I totally dig 8 minors and 10 majors on tiny maps - it's just hilarious how fast people get angry. So the more the merrier, if you ask me. If SD found a way to allow 50 races into a game, I'd probably build 38 custom races just to see what it was like on a small or medium map.

I don't care one whit how the problem is solved, just that it gets solved in a semi-meaningful way. I will not micromanage my tax slider to cheese a victory by getting a better economy than I deserve. I'd be very happy with a simple fix that just averages the morale. More thought than that would be neat (though probably be a waste given stardock's in-progress projects), but I do think this issue needs fixing - it's an amazingly cheesy tactic. Devs - any word if GC2 2.0 will ad
1. The Speed racial bonus costs a whopping 5 pt for a 1pc/wk boost and 8 pt for 2pc/wk. This is ridiculously expensive since you can get a 30% Economic bonus or a 20% Research bonus for just 4 pt.
I don't know that speed is amazing in every game or situation, but now and then I've gone with +2 speed and been able to steal tons of anomalies early-game, swipe planets from next-door neighbors that are rightfully theirs, etc. It's not a long-term benefit by any means, but ea

Frogboy, you kick ass as usual. For those who may not have read far enough, I wasn't really stating that Civ 4 is garbage. I personally didn't like it long enough to play more than about 3 games, but it seems like an okay game. My point was merely that blanket statements about a game based on my particular biases aren't valid. Dude, you guys see the latest bargain bin game? Apparently this lame company "valve" is trying to sell 5 games for $50 - or $10 a game. They couldn't

Thanks, Cari! Any word on when this fix will be available? I eagerly await TA and don't expect a new update ASAP or anything, but it would be nice to know "next week", "next month", whatever.

But see, that chart is misleading. Your first game is 100% scored. But your second game submission doesn't just get "docked" 25%. It sets the values of both games to 75% their original score. So if you got 50k game 1 and 50k game 2, your total is 100k * 0.758, or 75,800 points. The formula is clear if you run some numbers with it - all your scores are totaled and that percent modifies them. Posting a chart that just says "Here's how much each game is w

Civ 4 is garbage. It's missing a very core feature - you cannot build multiple offensive and defensive military units in any way. You can upgrade pre-built units, but never build your own custom units. Therefore it is not as good a game for anybody as gal civ 2. Is this a valid argument? Lord, no. I don't like Civ 4's unit experience system, not one little bit, but that doesn't make it a sensible thing to use a an "unbiased" review element! For me personally, I can judge things ho

I read somewhere it was a twice-a-day update. If they tried to update the full list every time somebody submitted a score, I imagine it would be a major DB nightmare. You have three options: * One, update the full list on every score post. This means ordering all entries by score and doing a full recalculation in one giant DB query, or else doing lots of little queries to get your prior score/rank, figuring out where your new position will be, and redoing all people who have shifted

Rymdkejsaren, apparently you've never dealt with random opponents in multiplayer games. Magic Online was a lot of fun for me for a while, but every few games, the other person decides his deck isn't shuffled well enough, or your deck isn't "fair", and simply quits the game. Worse is when they refuse to quit so you have to concede if you want to play again. Multiplayer games without a set circle of friends can breed amazing levels of immaturity, which is why developers are stuck having

Bah. Nothing but blood will quench my thirst for... uh... well, blood? I just want to be clear that I, at least, am sad about the lack of a beta. I think the hard-working folks at SD should take it as a compliment. thehandofzarquon, I was aware the tree had changed (though I couldn't seem to put my finger on just how) - I just was confused about the names. If it's simply the fact that the terrans are keeping most of the current tree, that makes sense.

I'm keen on the metaverse. I like being able to point friends to a link and say "look how big a nerd I really am!" Totally impresses the chicks, too. I'd like to be able to play against the Cylon without feeling so bad. The problem is they're an awesome race that take a lot of risks - they're super fast and maximum aggressive combined with a few other appropriate boosts that I can't recall (soldiering and military production I think), but they can't compete in a universe that
ah yes, sorry Dystopic, misunderstood you. Yes you could win a racial victory medal by playing 10 games on Cakewalk on Tiny maps with all the different races. NOTE however that those ten games are going to be a drag on your difficulty score and your overall score, especially over time as you submit more games.
The score drag is a big myth if you ask me. The formula, as I've read it, makes it pretty clear that you get a bigger r

I'm gonna be a naysayer and whine here. I was really looking forward to the beta this weekend. I think Stardock obviously has to do what they have to do, and get the delivery mechanism fully working, but I'm surely not going to pretend I'm not disappointed to have to wait! That would be an insult to SD if we all say "no big deal." That's just a few steps away from "I don't much care when TA is available, it's just not that big a deal to me." Show your support and WHINE, people! <img src="s

I get that SD doesn't want custom races to be as cool as the built-in races. I don't like it so much, but I get it - they don't want a game like MOO2 where there's very little point in playing a built-in race when a custom race is generally as good or better. So SD chooses to nerf the custom race making it so the 15 points, on average, are far fewer than the 7-10 points built-in races get once you factor in their built-in bonuses. Okay, that's cool, makes their work of building intere
