[quote who="Frogboy" reply="23" id="2021337"](slaps forehead) Note to self not to let some of you guys participate in future Stardock betas. In the GalCiv betas, I remember expressly talking about how unfun the first couple betas were. There's still probably some posts somewhere. Same for Sins of a Solar Empire. In both cases, the games, to be candid, sucked up until the last month or two of development. Even Sins Entrench

Hehe I just mentioned those 2 guys for kicks, since regulus is so broken with snipe coordination in larger games... We'll join some random 5v5 and party sometime soon, Ke5trel :). My comment of "April release date and very unlikely to be pushed back further" was from a reliable source I shall not name... Fact is though, even if every beta tester wants it to be pushed back... there are cost constraints, etc... So who knows. I'll go read up on your building-work-around post now, would b

Ke5trel, I've heard that the game will be released in April (was already pushed back from its original release date) and that it is very unlikely to be pushed back further...If it was, i'd be the first to declare that a VERY good move. Assuming it is really going to be released in April... Means that we have 3 months left or less? Meanwhile they have not yet finished multiplayer connectivity, single player mode, have not yet released the multiplayer game modes to the beta, bal

Thats exactly it, Innociv :(... Beta2 seems to be beta1 with many "frills" or "extras" to cover up what is lacking in the core gameplay...Kind of like using a broom to push the dirt under the rug instead of getting a vaccum cleaner to solve the problem. I must admit that after everything Scathis had said about how White-Boxing was important, I was a bit surprised at how un-fleshed out the demigod skills were in the beginning of the beta (Even now their nothing special frankly...)...</

Ke5trel, I agree that the quoted specific post of Jinx is not representative of the many constructive comments he has made...I ment to only quote Frogboy's reply about "To be honest Jinx, I think you've been completely unfair to Demigod from day 1."... I also agree with what you said about how NOW is the time for provocative threads (and happily, many of them have been made before now too.)... My only fear is that with the fairly short dev cycle, the short beta test, the looming relea

[quote who="Frogboy" reply="15" id="1974339"] Many of those points are absolutely true and could very well make Demigod a fantastic game (hopefully). I'm always skeptical about future "free" updates and I rarely hold my breath on those promises. While Stardock has a good rep for doing updates, GPG isn't exactly known for great service. Plus there's the recent failure, Space Seige which was also developed by Mike Marr (according to Moby Games). I'm not saying Mike is a b

Proper load-balancing across 4 or more cores is actually not trivial :). The fact that the engine is already multi-threaded and thus uses 10% of 3 cores along with 50% of the "main thread" usage is pretty good...They have obviously divided up the workload... While they may do small tweaks here and there, I would HIGHLY doubt that they will do the deep "surgery" required to the engine at this stage to produce significantly better load balancing... Doubt as in, i'd put 10000 dollars on it :P...

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I have played Dota in the past, I do not currently... I basically agree with Jinx 100%... But then again, I usually do. How ya been Jinx? ;). I was very hopeful for Demigod when I pre-ordered it...The beta so far has been dissapointing to me in that I feel the game so far has been incredibly shallow... But then again, its only beta 1. I am hopeful that beta2 will introduce depth to the game. This is not dota, I don't require them to introduce mec

Hehe its all good Ke5trel, gave me a chuckle reading that post :). Regarding possible alternatives to the recipe system, that should still provide depth while maintaining this phantom "accesability" factor...Take a look at the post innociv made in which he even provides a few diagrams of how item shops could work(ie: via item upgrades)... Has some good ideas there for how the item "framework" could be designed. The funny thing about Innociv's suggestions on the item-framework

I disagree there innociv. Certainly if EVERY skill is high-cd thats bad for gameplay but having one or even two "high cd" skills is quite acceptable and can give you more variation by allowing for a stronger ability-effect. -Drexion

Ok, while I think Sigol was being a bit rude and abrupt, I'm afraid I have to agree with him. You can DISLIKE recipes (personally I don't) and that is fine... But I would vehemently disagree that it does not add a ton of depth to the game. Are there OTHER ways (perhaps better) to add the same depth? Probably. A WC3 Mod was likely limited in its implementations of "depth" and went with the recipe route. One thing I keep reading from people who complain about recipes is that they seem t

By that "no two helmets" comment before, i don't mean to reduce item-combinations...so please can't we just rename them to like "accessory" or some such? The idea of using multiple helmets/breastplates bug me :p.. Also its a bit weird how we can use two helmets but not the exact same one? So their all enforced-unique? I guess thats needed so you don't buy tons of -25% cooldown items I guess :p. -Drexion

Not having hero collision makes targetting a nightmare as well. Personally I'd want creep collison also, right now its way too easy to get the right placement for a big AOE spell like Guardian-angel... Would have a problem with rook's size though, so maybe give rook a "stampede" ability which hurts creeps and pushes them out of the way as we walk over them :p.

I like to know the strategic state of the game at all times, so with the zoom method I need to zoom out every 5-7 seconds. Thats annoying :p. Icons would help, but not really solve the problem. Minimap would stop me from having to do that... -Drexion

39 Replies 6,326 Views

I agree 100% we need a minimap...I made a post in the beta suggestion forum (this is the general one, heh) about that myself...Listed a few of my reasons there.

17 Replies 18,147 Views

I love the zoom feature but we still need a minimap... 1) Without a minimap we have NO idea where our teammates are in the map, this would make any kind of coordination incredibly hard in larger maps. 2) Without a minimap, I am forced to stay zoomed out much more than I want, just so I can see enough of an "area" around me to see enemies approaching from all angles (although they do tend to always come from the direction of the creeps in this map...sometimes they come fr

You forget the teleport consume item... So its very easy to get anywhere ya need to defend. Also, if you don't want a 45min game, what do you want? 10minutes? heh... I'm sure they will make a 1v1 10-20min map, so let me have my 5v5 45-70min map :p.

I just wanted to agree with pretty much every point the original poster made, emphasis on map "tactical opportunities" for ganks/etc. I can't imagine how crowded a 1-lane push would be in a 5v5. Microing is pretty much useless at the moment as well, skill doesn't seem to impact gold gathering very much, etc... I dislike the "flat" map, even WC3 had two "planes" with fog-of-war happening when ya climb a ramp, etc... On the other hand, beta1 is an ENGINE test :)...So while it is a good

I really don't understand people's comments about "Oh the cost for carriers increasing is ok, because we have more resources overall now and its almost un-noticeable". People, think for a second. Any cost in a game is a RELATIVE opportunity cost. Sure you can still put that unit out, but is it an efficient use of your resources? If it is NOT, someone who DOES use his resources more efficiently will have a BETTER fleet. Which means you lose, unless you have a higher economy. The question

Advent is quite strong in 1.04, in my humble opinion. Advent now has the best scouts, the best light frigates, and the best flak. Their illuminators are now quite good too, even if you DO need 3 labs to get them (and with 5 labs and illum-copy, thats a huge boost). Throw in great abilities like malice, cleansing brillance, etc... Advent is very strong, nobody can complain about them now and be taken seriously IMHO. Regarding the whole resource increase, the fact that we have ra
