1/16, Friday morning, our family was in meeting discussing Mom and we received a phone call from the hospital. It appeared that the pneumonia( yellow mucus, fever, etc) may be acting up again and that they would not admit her to the rehab center but to review her case next Tuesday. 1/17, Saturday early afternoon, Mom's fever is down and the decision is made to admit her into rehab at University Hospital. Mom was moved out of ICU Monday evening to the 5th floor where there are "normal" hospital rooms. She sits in her recliner during the day 4-8 hrs looking out her window of western Syracuse area. These rooms seem a lot smaller to me than I remember them from my days of youth. As of now, 6pm, Mom has been off the ventilator for 130 hrs!!!! She is still coughing up flem from the pneumonia that creates havoc for her breathing but she is coughing it up on her own instead of the nurses having to suction it out. Please pray that the pneumonia would pass for this is the one thing that hinders Mom's progress that could put her back on the ventilator. Other good news is her blood pressure. It has steadily been at acceptable to good levels for about 5 days straight
Today had some surprising news and obvious improvement! Mom was lifted up by some harness and put into a recliner/chair today. It wasn't for long, but she did OK. As of 9pm tonight, she had been 31 hrs off the ventilator, but the best news is that her blood pressure was good throughout the entire day. It was almost normal. The weaning from the ventilator continues as Mom works on her endurance. Pray for this along with the blood pressure coming under control. Focus praying for all of you out there today. No one including doctors can even begin to speculate on a prognosis. Her bones are healing and she's building endurance to loose the ventilator. There are no guarentees she will, but she's heading in a positive direction. Physically she may heal to the point we she will be able to walk normal and play the piano again, but mentally, she may not be able to any of that. I'm not going to sugar coat this for anyone. Sorry for any concern caused recently in not updating this lately. I was in western NY visiting family who didn't have internet access. Mom is continuing to build her endurance. Currently, she is up to 27 hrs without the ventilator and still strong. The longest before was 22 hrs. Her blood pressure is still high but now manageable. She went off the heparin blood thinner 1/1/04 and was put on coumadin, another blood thinner. This may be helping the blood pressure also. The
SUMMARY: The premise is that you are not an accident because you were created by God with specific purposes in mind before the earth's foundations. Man and woman was and is the focus of his love where everything made around us was made with us in mind first. I suggest reading Genesis 1-3 with the paradigm of you preparing for your first born's room before being born. Think about the premise's implications. For the creation, it implies purpose, meaning, significance and hope!
Mom ended up going all night without the ventilator. (22hrs total) She is building endurance. 3-7 days ago, she would only go 3-6 hrs. Monday, she went 12hrs. This is good news in that she is on track to get off the ventilator hopefully in a week or two pending no further complications like the pneumonia or stroke, etc. There are no guarantees about this, but I'm going on history and experience of the doctor and nurses. If God is sovereign and His word is true, every good gift comes from God. Today we can give thanks and credit to Him as He is beginning to answer prayer. Yesterday and today, Mom has been completely off the ventilator 12 hrs each day and was put back on to rest in the evening. Before, it has only been 3-6 hrs. Her endurance is building. She was more alert with her eyes in following people around. Most important, today is the first day that Mom has responded upon command regularly

After 12 days, I finally was able to visit Mom. The one thing obvious to me was that she was more alert with her eyes and able to focus when being spoken to. She's doesn't focus like you or I can when being spoken to but alot better than 12 days ago. She did not respond to commands like wriggle your toes or fingers. She may have understood the command and thought she was moving them but her brain may not be able to effectively tell the toes or fingers to move. We just don't know right now.

Merry CHRISTmas everyone! None of our circumstances changes any of history and God's continual love for us that is demonstrated everyday. The weaning process from the respirator continues. Everyday that goes by without a surprise or set back is a good day for Mom. It is one more day of her bones healing. It is one more day of hope in that she can be rehibilitated. Nothing earth shattering today. Things are about the same really. Everyone went to see Mom today except my family due to our recent illnesses. That must have lifted Mom's spirit some. I'm not sure who this actually is, but it doesn't matter. It started with chest congestion and temperatures moving on to sinuses, throat and major energy deprevation. The temperatures lasted about 5-6 days for each one of us except my wife. I won't be visiting Mom until next week to make sure I'm not a carrier.
Good news...I'm able to sit up straight in my chair to type without passing out. The flu has ran it's course through my entire household with Aubrey and I still having some after affects. They are again trying to wean Mom from dependency on the respirator and then put her back on so as to not over exhaust her. Medications have again be cut back except the heparin(blood thinner). There has been not word on the blood clot and if it is dissolving or not. There is a possibility of Mom staying in the Syracuse area if she is completely free of the respirator after ICU at University Hospital.
