[quote]I think Universalist is a bad way to go. [/quote] Mostly true, although if you take +25 luck and +25 creativity they are actually quite good, but you have to play to their strengths (like with all parties). Having your defence being 8 "Lucky Rangers" by mid-game is not hard. I think all of the parties are balanced, and it becomes a matter of style. I think for larger maps they will be weaker as you probably want more bonuses elsewhere, but on small maps where you ofte

Thank you again for the quick reply, I'll be a bit more observant next time, and maybe I'll spot something myself that answers these questions.
Ray - Thanks for the correction in the Bug thread. That was my assumptiono many t, although it seemed weird that so many techs that I normally grab were unavailable... Therefore I have the following question: If you slip-slide around with your alignment you can pick up all the techs... or is it current alignment at the moment you start research of any given tech that counts? My usual game is one were I drop to evil rather quickly and then claw my way back to good before the
Same experience here, I was running up the tech tree and among others Hyper Warp, Xeno Intimidation, the one that gives the trade wonder and Virus Elimination were unavailable to me. Same for techs at the end, except for final frontier (Galactic Domination et. al). I was playing as Neutral which may have affected this somewhat. Add-on: Never saw diruptor tech (had to trade for it), nor Excalibur tech. [Message Edited]
Picked #2, but there is a caveat here: I'd like to see the costs for subsequent starbases in a sector to be higher. Think of it as an inefficency issue when you have your admirals fighting for budget allocations for the sector... or something like that. And it's not the military bonuses that are bad... those additions see less use then lets say, pleasure palaces. [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
Yupp, luck is quite solid. I've been experimenting with Luck and Universalists for +50% luck. I generally by the time battleships roll around (on normal) have a full complement of Rangers for active defence and the starting position is generally above average often brilliant (20 planet withing two spaces and 26 planet as Sol V). Out of curiosity is there a luck & creativity synergy? [Message Edited]
Actual Bug: Percursor Defenses event still has no picture W.r.t. Minors - I'm still competing with them for early wonders and trade goods. I'm not sure if this is intended or a balancing issue. It seems that their early high quality planets (always 20+) give them an early start. I can only confirm this for Normal and below difficulties. On the plus side the UP vote fix makes for very much happiness.
I see space sharks all the time... only once as an event though... there is a planetoid anomoly that pops them out (big green planetoid unless it's being funky and borrowing the wormhole graphic). [Message Edited]
Hmm, another little thing I found (possibly mentioned before): After clicking on next turn (automatic turn = off) it doesn't go on to the next turn but sort of freezes in place. I can do everything in the game except move on to the next turn. Save and reload fixes it. It's happened a couple of times before and occasionally it will fix it self after I've messed around a bit in the game... this time it didn't. (Tiny - Normal)
Much appreciated all of you.
Newbie Question: How good are the +5% and +7% PQ choices, and how do they interact with Soil Improvement, Habitation and Terraforming? To me it seems like the 7% is not a realistic choice due to cost. There are too many other things you can do with the points. In the same vein, are there other choices that are red-herrings as well? Also are there any choices that seem overpowered? Just curious
You mean 'rule of thumb': You can't hit an American with a branch thicker than the diameter of your thumb... I'm not entirely sure how this will get us more members. Crown Royal and Canadian Club works excellently as bribes for most Americans, maybe just a free bottle to join...
Maybe knowing the winner of the war of 1812 as well? (For those of you who need to do the research, check out mp3.com and "Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie" - War of 1812 and just enjoy) [Message Edited]
[quote]honorary Canadian? Is that really an honor? [/quote] Wearing a maple leaf is almost as good as wearing the Norwegian flag, and you get shot at by mean-spirited indigenous peoples about as much. Plus BC is one of the nicest places on Earth, and hockey is the only sport (although I will admit the beer is better in Portland :(, but only in Portland). As for bringing my own snacks, I assume sushi and Sapporo is good? :d
Do honorary Canadians get to join the Federation?

I know this has been mentioned before, but I would like to know if it is intentional or a bug: The minor powers, at the lower levels, are very strong in the early game. They often will have the most influence and be the most powerful until a couple turns before the game ends. They also have a tendency, mostly because they start with very good planets, to jump out ahead in both the tech and industrial development. In some games this has meant that they are sitting on 90% of the trade
Again, a couple of minor bugs, consistent over the last four games or so (again-apologies if repeated): 1. Overlord Tech says that you have developed Excalibur-class ships in both the tech menu and the description you get whne having developed the tech. Only one example of this, as it was my first game in whihc I got that far up the tech-tree. 2. There seems to be a minor bug with the sector influence display on the mini-map. When I reload a game the display takes about two t
I'm not sure if theres have been mentioned before, but if they have at least they are not just on one machine: Bugs (Have shown up in all my last three games): UP only votes on two issues - Placement of the UP headquarters and Taxing warring parties - Before the upgrade there was a lot more variety. Missing art for several ethical questions and events: - Warring Bugs - This is a planetary settlemnet question with the following choices: Loss of morale, Loss of produ
