I'm with you, Mgosh. Most of the music I've been buying lately has been from the 80s. The pop music wasn't so overproduced then as it now. Although, IMHO, I think it's mostly due to Pro-tools computerizing the vocals. I liked Debbie Gibson growing up and while I still like some of her music, I've found that I enjoy Tiffany's music more. I bought the Tiffany CD this year from a used CD store (it was out of print and had do some extra hunting f

I remember first reading Seventeen Magazine. While it had its cool buzzwords, it did attempt to write some actual content (this way back in the early 90s). I considered YM to be the shallow, bratty teenzine then and it was: it focused on popularity and favored it. Around 1999-2000 or so, it become much more flashy. The "School Zone" which showed different kids from high schools all over the country as themselves was gone. The quality
So Yesterday Album: Metamorphsis Year: 2003 With the Matrix, Liz Phair is the 34-year-old who still insists on wearing thigh high miniskirts and message t-shirts ("foxy", "dump him") and Avril Lavigne is the one who sneers at the popular girls and then secretly chats them up when her friends aren't around. Hilary Duff is, however, is the homec
Only In My Dreams Album: Out of Blue Year: 1987 Posing on the front cover with a stuffed teddy bear and in the trendy clothes of the time (striped, off-the-shoulder t-shirt and acid-washed jeans), the only skin being shown is Debbie Gibson's knee. The stuffed teddy bear doesn't have any hidden meani
It is an accomplishment! You conquered a fear (and rightfully so) you had. Congrats!
Wow! That was a really creative way to look at it. You got insightful points from me!
Rock Your Body Album: Justified Year: 2003 In the summer of 2003, Justin Timberlake's career was peaking: his tour with Christina Aguilera was getting rave reviews (but not selling out), he was no longer associated with Britney but yet was able to squeeze more publicity from the relationship, dating Cameron Diaz and his third single, "Rock You
I read short stories a lot. I suggest Junot Diaz ("The Sun, the Moon, the Stars"). He's a modern writer that writes like people talk, "Rule of the Bone" by Russell Banks (if you ever read "Catcher in the Rye" and liked it), Mary Shelley's "The Immortal" for some horror (another short story), Margaret Atwood ("Happy Endings" is another great read and a short story.), "Franny and Zoey" by J.D. Salinger and "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. <br
My Love Is Like...Wo Album: Moodring Year: 2003 There is plenty of color on Mya's website, which is to reinforce the mood ring theme. The word moodring is in various bright shades of red, yellow, and green. Below it, the writing directing people to sites is slightly larger than most sites. It's attention-grabbing and flashy. However
Congrats, BlueDev!
Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) Album: Chapter II Year: 2003 In an interview with MTV.com, she reveals her writing process: eavesdropping. "I listen to their (her friends and family) stories when they come in [the studio]. They don't think I'm awake, [but] I listen to what they go through on South Beach." While for really great writers, this would b
Crazy Album: Reality Year: 2003 On their second album, cotton candy-pop girl group Dream were supposed to go ghetto. According to MTV.com, the album was perhaps going to include a songs with Eve, the Neptunes. The websites even features a countdown (as its introduction) and then a picture of the four young women dressed provactively. Mo
Have you tried a damp cloth at all? That usually helps with my headaches. I hope it goes away soon. Headaches have a way of sucking.
This is a mixed CD must for me. It's those horns I didn't intially like this song myself, considering I like the slow burn type of R&B better (Alicia Keys, Jill Scott). But I do find this song really fun to listen to.
I don't care much for Leno. His humor is too bland and predictable. I'm glad Kilborn is gone, though. His fratboy sense of humor was irritating for anyone not him. But I enjoy Conan and Letterman, though. However, I wonder what this will mean for Conan for the long-run. with the earlier timeslot and a much bigger audience.
Crazy In Love Album: Dangerously In Love Year: 2003 For "Crazy In Love," Beyonce won a songwriting Grammy. But really, she didn't write much of it. Rich Harrison, the producer, did a majority of the work. He thought of the sample (Chi-Lite's "Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)"), pitched it to Beyonce, who liked it. Then she said,"Now write th
The game got harder with the expansions, Texas. When I played the original, the Sims got kind of boring after a while. However, I did get Hot Date, which made it much harder to get married. Whereas, in the original, getting married was almost too easy. I have yet to play Sims 2. It won't work on the computer I have now.
I went to a McDonald's one time, where this young girl is talking to someone ahead of me in front of the register. I thought it was my turn, but then she said she was on break. Then this young guy comes up to the register, yells at the girl and tells her "you only have 2 minutes left of your break" and is a snot to me. He heaves a huge sigh and looks ticked to be working at all, because apparently he wasn't supposed to be working that night at all. E
Work does take up a lot of a Sim's social life. When I usually play, I have two people. One person stays home and socializes while the other works. I try to have the working Sim to have a minimal social life, making some calls here and there. However, the social sim helps to maintain the family friends quotient.
It's like middle school mentality -- someone doesn't like your friends, then they don't like you and you are automatically excluded. Whatever. It sucks you became the new target, Texas. I'm glad you realized the silliness of it all, but it's still uncalled for. Those people really do need to get a life, though.
Baby, I Love U! Album: This Is Me...Then Year: 2003 By the release of the fourth single from "This Is Me...Then," the Bennifer relationship was over. According to Britian's New magazine and the Internet movie database, the single was delayed and with pictures of them together, with a love note written b
I started watching the show in the 2nd season and up until the Bob Guiney one. However, I lost interest due to how repetitous it is. Every ceremony is the most dramatic.ceremony. ever., the constant good-girl/bad girl storyline they play over and over, the handsome bachelor turning out to be a slimeball (ok, maybe not Andrew Firestone. I actually liked him.) For me, I think the woman cry because they are really that desperate. Some of the wome
Powerless (Say What You Want) Album: Folklore Year: 2003 Nelly Furtado's new single "Powerless (Say What You Want)" beats to its own drum. In it, Furtado embraces her culture and wants people to speak up when they feel marginalized by society. In the first verse, she sings about the media pu
Feel Good Time Album: Charlie's Angels 2 - Full Throttle Soundtrack Year: 2003 Pop music thrives on what's cool at the moment. In 2003, the Charlie's Angels franchise simply lost its cool factor and flopped at the box office. While it may have looked like a slam dunk for Pink's agents at the
And I can imagine that those first graders trying to be cool (and already consider themselves the cool group) will grow up having little self-esteem and think that they are entitled to everything because they are better. Sharetime for me: In middle school, there was a groups of girls a grade behind my year and they were the "Mean Girls." They once walked down the 7th Grade hallway with a little rhyme about how they arrived and better pay atte
