Brandie, I've lived in my house now for three years, and we just took down the tacky, brass chandelier over spring break. The new brushed nickel light fixture looks much better! Chris tried to install a ceiling fan but hit a snag, and now we just have wires sticking out of the ceiling. Home improvement is so much fun! Tell Adrian Congratulations! Minimal cursing is quite an accomplishment! The house looks beautiful! I can't wait to see more pictures. Perhaps we can come visit soon.

Yeah Brandie! I am so excited for you and your family. Being a homeowner is a wonderfully infuriating experience. I mowed my yard this morning just to find out we have a leak in our sprinkler system and the fence in the backyard is about to fall down. Lots of fun! I hope your journey through homeownership is as entertaining as mine! Love ya!
Pictures are worth a thousand words, Gideon. . . Being bitter over the past will not serve you well in the future.
I grew up in the community that shunned Gideon for his failure to provide and nuture his family. The little town has its fair share of faults, but I do believe the citizens of the community were truly concerned about the welfare of his children. I hate that Candie's family was harmed by his selfishness. I guess you live and learn . . . For the sake of his children, I hope he finds his way. I suppose we all deserve second chances. Of course, making amends for p
A couple of crazy things are rumbling around in my head at the moment. I figured I would share this convergence of random thoughts with the world. As I write this blog, my husband is having a surgical procedure that could potentially alter our future. He wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything all morning, and he had a low grade headac
Do you really think a theology that paints God as a vindictive monster will attract unbelievers? Trials come into our lives because we live on the fallen side of heaven. Not because God loves to torture his children. The whole, "It's making me stronger" line very well may be true, but I certainly wouldn't make it the new slogan for Christianity.
I love reading your writing. Your sense of humor and wit always make me laugh! I'm sorry to hear the mortgage folks are giving you the run around. I hope you are able to get into your new place soon. Perhaps we can get together after you are settled in. Take care!
If, you're dressing as a bum to test those around you or to challenge people what is that saying? Aren't you just as bad? Look at me....if you don't like it tough? Some just like to rebell just to try and prove something...
I think you missed my point here altogether. Somehow, you mixed my analogy of the individual invited by one church on one occassion to appear as a "bum" in his outward appearan
Wow Brandie! It seems strange to think you are less than three hours away from where I live. It's always seemed like you were worlds away from me. Of course Hawaii is like another planet compared to Texas. We do have a lot to be thankful here in our great state. I hope you get settled in soon. You will have to post pictures of the house!
Possibly misinterpreted scripture there... God gives you the desires of your heart... does that mean he gives you what you want, or that he gives you the right wants? I've sit through plenty of sermons in which scripture is misinterpreted . . . This one being a prime example. God does have a way of chan
I I'm downright caustic towards religion as a whole I'm certain you are not alone in this description. I've been reading a book called, When Bad Christians happend to Good People, and there are lots of people just like yourself who reached their limit and walked away. But for the grace of God, I would pr
After sitting through a Sunday morning sermon on broken relationships and bitterness, I stumbled across a sealed envelope mixed in with a pile of Bible puke accumulated from the numerous churches I attended in the last year. Piles of old sermon notes and church bulletins littered my lap, as I carefully tugged on the fastened lip of the envelope, curious about this mys
"This time last year, would you have ever imagined you’d be waking up with a man in your bed?” Chris inquired as we greeted the day on Christmas morning. The silky Egyptian cotton sheets kept our bodies warm as we snuggled under the covers, and a feeling of gratitude welled up deep inside my heart. After twenty seven years of “going home” for Christma
Thanks for sharing your evening with us! You are a blessed woman . . .
I guess that makes two of us . . . I fear your rejection just as much as you fear mine. Aren't human beings the strangest creatures? Chris and I went to see Martian Child last night. I cried like a baby at the end. You should take the little girl you are helping raise. After her Halloween experience, I think she could relate. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts.
As I sit here on my couch this morning, I feel extremely reflective. Snuggled under a cozy blanket with Chris' laptop resting on my legs, I'm browsing through some of my old blogs. I’m thankful for written expression. Recording my thoughts and feelings is like pressing a pause button on life. As I read through the events of the last few years, I am amazed how quickly
Twenty-two huh? You realize that is how old I was when you came to see me that first summer so many years ago. Does that even seem possible. Life does happen fast . . . but you seem to soak up every moment. Perhaps maturity is overrated. I love you, little sis!
Do you ever have split second moments when everything seems to be spinning completely out of control? I got to school this morning feeling a bit edgy due to the fact that my student’s grades were due, the new teacher I’m mentoring needed to meet with me, and a parent came to complain that her child was being bullied. Fridays are usually hectic, but today seemed abnorm
My family and I just finished playing Sequence. After sharing a prayer and a meal together, we pulled up a piece of carpet, and giggled our way through a board game. Chandler, my ten year old step-daughter, seemed to have all the luck, and smiles beamed from the winners' faces after every round. A deep sense of contentment permeated the room. Now to some peo
Life is full of so many things I do not understand, but this issue tops the list. I plan to ask God this question someday. and I hope He has an answer I can accept.
The lyrics to Bethany Dillon's song resonate deep within my heart. My husband burned a cd for me on our second date, and it was a hidden track packed full of meaning. I cried all the way home as I listened to the words. Your blog is profound. The church has caused as much harm as it has good. Too bad . . .
A deep well of sorrow lives buried within my soul. Woven into the tapestry of my being is the belief that I am a burden. The message taunts me constantly, and in moments of weakness, I give in and accept the lie. I crank up the volume on the tapes that tell me my existence causes other people’s pain. Recently, a master manipulator convinced me that I was t
Trin, I re-read this blog, and in light of recent events, I found it to be extremely profound. You still have a way with words I find to be powerful and enlighting. I love you! Tenille
I'm glad prayer works for you . . .
I sure hope my little sister who loves to write returns soon. I miss her brilliant ideas . . .
