My mom was also a "stay-at-home" mom, and it is much better for the kids. If you are someone unfortunate enough to be working hard in a minimum wage job without health insurance, and you become "unlucky" enough to get, for example, appendicitis, and have to have your appendix removed, you are probably looking at something like a $10,000 bill (and that's barring any "complications").
