The only static/premade map(s?) should be that of the campaign. Maps in the sandbox mode and in multiplayer should be random with some variables that we can tweak before the game starts. Much like what we currently have (but without hardcoded map): The map editor that will be released with the game will alllow us to create our own maps (obviously).
Wonderful news and thank you! I suspect this may a

I have a question about maps for anyone that can answer. I want to apologize in advance if this has been answered before. I see there is a "static" map in place for the beta and there is mention of a map creator for the release version, but my question is will there be a auto map generate function within the game when setting up a single player game or will you have to choose from a selection of premade maps?
I guess I meant "dated" in terms of the expectations of casual players who buy a game these days. Even the venerable Civilization series is reworking its combat to a more tactical hex grid system in Civilization 5. That sounds more like what a game magazine would say. I personally like each game for its particular battle system and would like more of the same from each of them. I do like the HOMM battle system but would want Disc

You will most likely enjoy the game immensely for the first month (maybe two), then the real flaws will show. There is very little content for anyone who reaches max level and the crafting is mostly non existent. There are some interesting quest arcs that do a good job of tieing up lose ends in the Star Trek lore. For example one arc explains the change in klingons from the original series to the movie and beyond klingons. However they really dropped the ball with en

If you like RTS builder games with some combat but more of a focus on building, I have been playing Anno 1404 Dawn of Discovery. It is an excellent RTS builder game. There is a large focus on building and managing your empire with a simple, yet effective combat element to it. Not nearly as involved combat wise as AOE or SINS, but it is a great change of pace.

Words of wisdom Nick, words of wisdom! And no offense to you Saije (I am not saying this is what you intended), but nothing grinds my gears more than people who disguise an apology in subtle misdirection of blame so they don't have to take responsibility for their actions.

I figured there were two sides to the story, which is why I refrained from posting until now. After following your example I also did a Google search and I see he posted the exact same topic on at least 3 other gaming forums as well. Seems like he's trolling a bit.

Wow! This is a fantastic project you both are working on. I will download and playtest this for you today. Keep up the great work!

I would have it based on a series of ships/satellites in orbit that reveal the FOW based on their position. This could be a tricky one to work out, but it would provide an additional strategic element. Knowledge is power, and it could be just as important to keep your opponent in check with his spy satellite network as well as his ground forces.

Actually, that's in a way how I found the game. I really wanted to play the new settlers, but I refuse to deal with the always on DRM scheme they have. So I opted for this game. I think it's fantastic. The in game accolades are very nice. Could anyone tell me if Settlers 6 is worth checking out?

I recently got myself addicted to the Anno 1404 series "Dawn of Discovery". I love strategy building games but somehow missed this whole series until now. I think the best thing about this game is the re-playability. I love they have random maps. I really hate games that don't ship with some sort of generator. The funniest thing tho is every 2 hour mark you have been playing, the computer voice says things to encourage you to take a break.
I didn't know anything about Civ 5, yet I had placed money that this thread had to be about some ridiculous DRM complaint. Good to see that I was right. Call me crazy, but I buy games based on how much fun they are and how easy they are to use. I have to log onto Steam ONCE, set it on offline mode, and I get to play fun games. If you don't have the internet at least one time in your life to run Steam on offline mode, then I'm not sure what th
Any details that wouldnt be covered by their site?
Well, the space combat is very "tactical". More thought and less Peww Peww. You have a wide variety of options when outfitting your ships with equipment and bridge officers. Your bridge officers are the mainstay of where your skills come from, so having a well trained crew is very important. The ground combat IMO isn't as bad as some would make it out to be,

Well, I can say I was very much the sceptic, but my star trek fandomness overcame my ability to avoid assimilation, so I went ahead and preordered so I could try the beta. I was honestly quite amazed at how much I enjoyed the game. I haven't been this excited about an MMO in a very long time. I think it's certainly worth giving it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Hey Raven, Very well put and yes I would enjoy playing with you post launch. I also have a vent server available if you are willing so we can explore and chat at the same time. Offer goes out to anyone else interested as well. I want to point out that I do not consider myself a fanboy of this game. I try and keep an open mind with any game I play and respect others opinions whether it differs from mine or not. I do admit this game has alot of work that

Agroroberts, I have been following this game for years now and my feelings about it have gone up and down like a rollercoaster. Up until Monday afternoon I was dead set agaist trying the beta as I had read so many negative reviews I was kind of like the guy who didn't want to ask out the girl he liked for fear of being rejected. I finally broke down and ended up deciding what the hell, I may as well preorder and give it a try for myself. So I preordered from Gamestop
