Microsoft: No Ultimate Extras for Windows 7

The Ultimate Extras embarrassment has been quite an issue since the launch of Vista, and while Microsoft did apologize and things started to get better in 2008, the fact remains that the company wasn't delivering as promised. Many users went as far as saying that Ultimate was useless because Ultimate Extras weren't plentiful, but of course those who bought Ultimate didn't buy them for the extras. And Microsoft is hoping those users will make the same decision for Windows 7 Ultimate, which won't be getting the feature when it's released. Here's the quote that shows Microsoft has given up (it almost slipped through our fingers after all this Windows 7 SKU news):

Our new approach to planning and building Windows doesn't have the capacity to continue to deliver features outside the regular release cycle. While our core development team is focused on building the next release, our sustained engineering team is focused on updates to existing features. As a result we don't plan to create Ultimate Extras.

LOL...good Post, Butch. M$ admits to the "Truck full of fail". Say, did anyone ever sue for breach of promise?

Oh yeah, forgot that they have more lawyers than "patches".

What's better? We've been free Beta testers (all who have Vista) and will now have to pay through the nose for W7. What's W7 but the result of the errors made in Vista.

Sooo...pay for the errors and pay for the corrections. Thanx, M$. My next will be a Mac.

I guess they've finally figured out that it's not a very good idea to sell non existant software.

And do you honestly think you'd be better off with a Mac?  Can't use Stardock apps on it, can play VERY FEW games... NO Winstep Xrtreme... and what apps you do have that would work on OS-X will have to be replaced/rebought because of the different kernel, etc. 

So, would going to Mac be a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face.... or jumping from the failtruck onto the failboat without a lifejacket?   Hope you can swim. 

Me, I'd rather have a functional OS that pretty much everything works on... so what if MS failed to deliver on Ultimate Extras, I still got a functioning OS that serves my needs.

You can argue all you like, but it won't do you any good. 

Vista Ultimate has served my needs well and I can not complain.  I did not purchase it for the Ultimate Extras in the first place, so, to me, I got what I paid for.  Sure there are a lot of people who don't like Vista, and I can well imagine a lot will still cling to XP when Win 7 is released, but it's like the 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' thing, it's what Vista does for me that matter.

Microsoft..... Expect less......

lolZ what extra MS can give.. It makes only one good thing ie operating system...and thats its expertise...

How many of you would like to use MSblinds, MSpackager, MSences, MSntivirus....

I am just waiting for Google OS. Any idea?

If Google make an OS I most certainly would NOT buy it...

In fact, I wouldn't talk to anybody who bought it ever again...

Unless they took out a full-page ad in PC Weekly to denounce it as being no more than a gimmick.

I mean, there you are, writing a letter in GoogleWord and it targets you with pop-up ads based on key words...

And you're listening to music the the GooglePlayer when there's a "message from our sponsors" ad break.

Worse still, you're logged into the Google Network by default and your personal business is no longer your own.

And when you log on the boot and login screens are ads based on events in the dream you had last night.

Nope, no thanks... I'll stick with Windows phoning home every day to tell MS is have my UAC turned off.

Google does not place their ads the websites without their owner's permission.

Have you ever tried Google Desktop Search/Chrome/Picasa? How many times did you get such ads?

Worse still, you're logged into the Google Network by default and your personal business is no longer your own.

Google has no intention to hack the personal business.

Not directly.  A big mistake IMHO.

But I believe you CAN upgrade from XP to Vista, not bother to activate it, and then upgrade Vista to 7.  I don't see why that won't work and let you keep your settings, etc. on the same machine.

@ superman #10.  Me thinks you took my post about a Google OS too seriously.  While it is true that I do not like or trust Google one bit, I was only joking and poking a bit of fun... you know... tongue-n-cheek.

Just trying to defend Google a bit.. but I wasn't serious even when my ex-gf said 'forget me'.. i jsut said her 'Pleasure, u are just becoming inbearable for my wallet'

Not that it's a wise thing to do... Upgrading Windows from one version to another has always caused a lot of grief, I don't see why that would change.
