Quoting Cerevox, reply 15My favorite is if you don't join the game at startup and everyone else had level 1000 toons with weapons of lolwtfbbqPWN +1000 and your the level 1 dupe who can't do anything. Or when there are like 4 expansions out and your have to but the original game for 50, then 4 expansions at 25 each, just so you can be the lvl 1 dupe. And pay 15 a month for the privilege.
MMOs are a raw deal.
And if you get in right at the start, you get to deal with an obvious beta with limited content. It's lose-lose with MMOs really. I don't even know why MMOs charge full retail price for the initial product-key. I'd probably give more of them a try for a month or two if it was free to make an account, and then the usual $15/month to play. But $60 + $15/month + whatever expansions they release? I weep when I think of how much so long-time WoW players have spent by now. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if some people have spent over $1000 on it by now.
MMOs with actual content, yes. You need to keep playing to get the latest gear. STO is a different story.
The game is already down to $40 on amazon.com. Wait 3 months and you can get it for $30. 6 months and it'll be $10 during a Steam sale. And trust me, there is no being "behind" in STO, because there is no end game content. And when they do add content to the game, Cryptic will charge for it (see Champions Online).
