Player preferences - MP

We've all seen that MP is not remotely as popular.

I wonder whether it is MP, or just 1v1 MP.

I just finished a few days of playing teams, and I have to say it is a LOT more fun.

Obviously, I have been playing vs. AI and in custom games.

But wow... much more fun.

So am curious if it is just ranked that is unpopular, or all MP.

I mean, what would happen if they opened up a ranked team option?

I'm paraphrasing a bit but on several occasions, the devs have said that roughly 97% of the game's owners haven't even attempted to load a multiplayer game (or was it just that they don't actively play?  Something to that effect, anyway).  I took that to mean that multiplayer in general isn't getting much traction.

I wouldn't expect another ranked option to change that situation much but I wouldn't argue against it either. Personally, I'd probably prefer some more robust co-op options if anything (StarCraft has done amusing things on that front recently though that'd be pretty hard to mimic with what's on offer here) but that's another discussion.

yeah if i understand correctly the player base is too smal currently to support team ranked matches. if i compare to COH2, we can say that all modes of ranked are played equally, so roughly 25% players do 1v1, 2v2 etc. people already complain that the queue time for ranked takes too long, and thats just to find ONE opponent, imagine it now had to find 200% more players. taking the queue time from ~4 min to 12 min. and technically longer since people would drop out of queue time before that time.

looking at custom matches, they are hardly ever hosted, (working on non USA time here) so it means people arent even trying to make team matches, so i doubt there would be a dramatic increase in players to fill the team ranked queues.

most strategy games (not only ashes) have a player base of >90% SP only. so the 97% for ashes easily falls within that.
