Interesting Universe Under 1.60.388302

I am on turn 259 of a game I started when 1.60.388302 came out.  I played as a custom civilization and the Galaxy Settings I used are shown in the screen snapshot below.  I only chose 1 opponent - the Yor.  What the universe looks like is captured in the second screen snapshot below.

Some things to notice and think about are:

  1. Even though I set the Galaxy Difficulty to "Godlike" the Yor never left their home sector.
  2. The design of the unverse requires that I travel through 9 sectors to get to the Yor's home sector from my home sector.
  3. It took me 259 turns to meet the Yor.

P.S. The reason I chose the settings I did and only selected one opponent is that I wanted to play deep into a game (I usually win around turn 200) to see more technologies and ideological traits and to see what issues I would run into in a long game.

Sorry don't get offended by this, but what are you expecting?

 

You set the game state to Max sizes, Max sectors and Farthest away from each other. I'm surprised you ran into them even that early.

Also, if you leave the AI alone on that large of a map size tehy don't need to expand. It seems they also got a fairly large sector too so doubly so.

Since I was playing under the "Godlike" setting, I was expecting the Yor to expand aggressively and control over half of the universe before I engaged them in battle and crushed them like a bug!

Seriously though, I provided the save because I thought the devs would be interested in seeing 2 things:

  1. What the universe that was created looked like given the settings I chose.  I expected more connections between the sectors and not such a linear string of sectors.
  2. I also thought they would be interested in seeing what the AI did as the Yor under the Godlike setting.

Considering the spirit of your test there are a few fallacies.

- the Yor growth is dependant on Durantium. They have no growth without it.

- Growth is not a very high priority for them. Try with the Torian

- there are many different galaxy patterns. They are not all spiral like in your picture. 

 

If your interested in seeing the AI at work you can actually test this by enabling cheats and using the "soak" command. This has the added benefit if you want to have an advanced start you can pick your race and type 'soak 200' and then press end turn and it will autoplay 200 turns for you.

Could you please be more specific about how to enable cheats and use the soak command?  I have been playing the game as it comes and am not familiar with how to enable cheats.

I only know how to do it on steam. On epic look for command line options or whatever. 

 

Right click the game on on steam.

Select Properties

On General tab type Cheat into Launch options

 

While in game press the tilda key to bring up the console. 

Type help to get a list of commands

Type help <insert command here without angled brackets> for instructions how to use the command.

From there play around.

 

I actually walked you through the process from here if you want to use the soak command. You can type help soak. For some more details. The command console has a large list of commands. Go ahead and play with the commands.

I got the game from Epic and I do not see a way to add a launch option.  Maybe someone else on this forum will know how to do it from the Epic launcher.

OK, understanding that you are working with a Neanderthal who started programming over 50 years ago in Fortran on punch cards, please follow what I have done and see if you can figure out what I am doing wrong.

The first screen snapshot below shows me clicking on the circle with my initial in it to open a menu.  I go down to the "Settings" option and click on that.  In the "Settings" menu, I scroll all the way down to the bottom and click on the "Galactic Civilizations IV: Supernova Insiders Edition" name to open the drop down menu shown in the second screen snapshot below.  I checked the "Additional Command Line Arguments" box and added the word "cheat" to the box that appeared (also shown in the second screen snapshot below).

I then started the game and verified that the word "cheat" was in the command line by using Task Manager to see the command line that was used to start the GalCiv4.exe process.  The command line, with some items blacked-out by me, is shown in the third screen snapshot below with the word "cheat" highlighted since the command line is so long.

I chose the option to start a new game and, after the universe was created, I hit the tilda key ("~") and nothing happened.

Having laid out for you all of the steps I took, can you tell me what I did wrong and what I need to do to bring up the console?

It may require a dash or cheat may need to be plurals. I rarely use the epic version so you may need to look elsewhere on how to enable the console.

Someone else may be able to answer this part.

That's all it took for me.

But I don't have Supernova on Epic.

After loading the game I went to the Options screen and clicked on the "Key Bindings" button.  In that screen I saw that the console was bound to the "`" key also know as "the backwards apostrophe" or the "opening single quote".  When I tried that in the game the console popped right up.

Illuana2 and Publius of NV, thank you both for your help and patience teaching an old man how to do something simple.

Paul - Did you get your punch cards returned to you wrapped in big sheets of greenbar paper with rubber bands holding everything together?  Many fond memories of trying to debug a Cobol program.

Hey no worries. I actually just missed the punch card days. DOS 6 and Win 3.1. Went to school for COBOL and VB6 with some C++.

Yes, the card decks would be returned held together with the rubber bands that I had put around them when I submitted the deck and inside the greebar paper on which the output of the program was printed.  The other fun thing I remember was using a Magic Marker to draw diagonal lines across the top edges of the cards in the deck to make it easier to put them back in order in the event that I dropped the deck before I got the rubber band around it.
