Connection?

is my phone my upload problem?

I've been having all kinds of problems that I never used to have...when I had a long distance phone line. Ever since I got just a local line (no long distance) (my isp is a local #) we have no high speed available in this area yet and we're in a 'dead' zone for cell phones here at the house although I have seen some people find a spot out in the middle of the road where they're able to get a signal lol...

Is that why my uploads keep timing out? As I stated in another thread, a couple of weeks ago (after a new AV program) my MSN browser disappeared off the face of the earth so I left a message for support at MSN and all I got was a very illegitimate looking email from a 'tech' with a bunch of AAAAAAAA's and stuff I couldn't read all over it....so I just closed it and never replied....the email asked for a reply but as far as I know, MSN never does that..

Is there somewhere here that I can email the files.....you know....the preview jpeg and the zipped bitmap (I can only email 2 mb at one time with the addy I login here with) so it might take 2 emails just to submit one stupid wallpaper......*sigh.....and I really wanted to at least take part

Could maybe somebody get back to this post with a few ideas? Like I said....my connection has no long distance....so I guess the .NET framework that took me all afternoon to download.....won't do me any good anyway.
What a pain in the butt!

HELP!!!!!!!!

When I was on dial-up my uploads would often timeout. I would try a couple of times and eventually one would make it.

I've been trying since before valentines day.....maybe I'll just try to put up the jpeg here......if it'll work....maybe somebody can help me out a little more than try try try.....I've attempted it about 15 times now.....I live in the country......the fastest speed my computer's ever connected at is 28.8kbps......not my fault........just nothing available out here....we live in a dead cell zone and there's no fiber optics for computer hookup in the current cable running down the road....the companies I've contacted say it's not going to be worth the money they'd have to spend running new cable because there's not enough potential customers......yeah they advertise plenty.....but not for here

I hope I can send it from my groups at MSN....I guess I'll find out if I get in trouble or not...I'm not sure how all that works....

Can maybe somebody else give me another idea on how I might be able to submit?.......I paid I paid dangit help me out here too lol

I would convert the wallpaper to JPG, with very little compression. It will reduce the size dramatically.
But when zipping it up, use the most compression possible.

is MSN your provider? i've had trouble with them
I also have Earthlink, less trouble with time outs.
I'm on rural dialup 56k modem, connection speed 26.4 on a good day, else 24.0
I uploaded my wmp skin several times, each one went through and it's 3mb - just took a while...on the other hand it took me 33+ hours to download the full XPSP2

I have heard decent things about this program, I have never used it but it does give a 2 week free trial Link

Worth a shot I suppose...

Kinda looks interesting...just wondering what kind of attachments come with the email massages it will deliver faster?

Faster delivery (transmission and receipt) of email massages and attachments

no my isp is a very small company...local server reasonable price and I have an email account there and the email service is fast and good but limited to 2mb.

No I've never used MSN as my internet connection but I do have a hotmail plus account with them. I know I'm supposed to have tons of storage space in my email but I don't know how to use it lol

Seems everytime I ask anybody a question nobody gives me a straight answer.

So another question....anybody know how to use all that 'storage' space I'm supposed to have in my MSN email account? I mean.....maybe for here??? Would that be a solution for my upload problem here?

O hi Koasati!
On the submit form it asks for a jpeg preview and a zipped bitmap....should I just try sending the jpeg? I have so many I would like to get opinions on...as I said before....I've only got paint...but I've been playing hard in it trying to come up with some interesting looking things....for as limited as my skills are and as limited the paint program is.....alot of em didn't turn out half bad...

Oh....I got up the nerve to try to submit because I saw that cute little stick figure valentine wallpaper and thought gee....they DO like things that are pretty and cute and simple......

the plus account for hotmail is for storing mail that you keep on their server.

won't help.

putting it there, doesn't upload to the servers here.

On the submit form it asks for a jpeg preview and a zipped bitmap.

The way that is worded confuses many folks, but a zipped bitmap can be .BMP .JPG .PNG .GIF, and etc. Bitmap in this context simply means any raster image. So upload the preview jpg, and a zipped jpg.

cool! Thanks! (I didn't know that lol) I thought it meant the bmp format

Well since it's past Valentines Day I'll go ahead and try another

Yer a sweetie Koasati I'll give it a try!

Thank YOU!

** Invalid screenshot filename. Please check the name of your screenshot and try again.

What does this mean? I tried typing in the name I gave the wallpaper. Is that wrong?

Hi Sir Bichur

I named it PeaceBeads.

I don't think I ever saw anything here named that

I made it myself out of my own stuff...nothing borrowed or anything...it took a long time (arthritis is worse in the winter)

this morning just typing is pretty rough...another snowstorm started coming in last night and it always makes things harder to do

Hi Mr greg2

That's what I was paying with my other isp...per computer..then I heard about my current isp and changed...with the help of you good folks here, things seems to have cleared up for now...I appreciate all the help you've given me...I'm currently re-building the wonderful skins I've lost in my recent crash..

speedwise....I'm not a really chronic 'need for speed' type person. My main problem was trying to be a contributing member here..and I seem to be able to submit now.
It sounds like a great price..but since we have two computers here we would have to pay twice as much as we pay now and I don't think I'd get the ok. Besides..our guys really do a great job..they're small and local and work so dang hard..they're always there to answer questions....(considering my questions..that can be rough on 'em lol)...

Thank you greg2.....I'll keep it in mind if my guys let me down......but they haven't yet!

Mrs Footsie there is a way to set it up so you are not paying for each comp if you are interested in learning how e -mail me or put up a post about it DSL has bigger bandwidth than dail up so it would be easer for you to up load in the mean time best of luck with your uploads
