Feature request: Sentry options

Would it be possible to put in an option for setting what a ship on sentry would respond to? Like only ships from races we are at war with? Its annoying to have a ship keep coming out of sentry mode for a freighter.

Kvim,

Have you tried the "guard" action? On build B3E (and several builds before that) it sets a ship in a state similar to sentry that it pops out of only if an enemy ship appears within its sensor range. I have not noticed yet how enemy freighters, colony ships, or transports (without attack capabilities) affect ships in guard status, so this would be something to watch for and report on if it does not seem right to you.

Guard "wakes up" for enemy freighters. That's not unexpected, since you might want to shoot them.

What I would like is the ability to sentry/guard constructors. Suppose there's some tasty resource that the Drengins have parked their starbase on, but they're at war with the Arceans. If the Arceans don't have a constructor nearby to grab the resource as soon as they've blown up the Drengin base, well, those sneeky Terrans will. Better still will be if the constructor wakes up if the resource frees up.

I like the idea. I wonder what it would take for SD to put this in. If not in 1.0 then having it on the list for 1.x would be nice. And we might want to provide them with a list of specifics.

Glad you like it.

One other thing I wish was in (going back to the OS/2 version) is some way to wake up every ship that you own that
s sentried or on guard duty.

I sometimes get a bit frustrated with both sentry and guard. Once you have all your units stationed on sentry or guard, your frieghter are on autopilot and survey ships are on auto survey. If you press done on the planet screen at the start of the turn sometimes you don't get a chance to do anything else. It goes strait to AI players moves, particularly in a huge or gigantic galaxy. Is there any way of setting it so that it pauses before it ends the turn.

Also when a resource has been uncovered can it be shown on the galactic map as generally I only find out I have uncovered one by accident. The same would be nice for starbases. I am sure they are there if you have show ships but they are all blue so I can't tell which is what is and isn't a starbase. Frustrating when I want to upgrade one and I have to search a general area to find it, or worse still forget that you have it altogether.

Does anyone else have trouble seeing the Terran Blue on the galactic map? I find it really difficult to make out my planets and ships.

Red,

I think your only option for pausing at the end of a turn is to turn off Auto Turn in the options.

Starbases display as a +, ships display as triangles.

My problem is generally not seeing enough Terran Blue ;)

End transmission.

As for Terran Blue LOL. I did!!
THANKS LOL

It would be nice if, when all of our ships are on autopilot, sentry, guard, or in orbit, that the game would not go to next turn automatically.

hecked on what Captian bizarre said and he is correct. On a huge galaxy you have to magnify the starchart by 300% before you can see Crosses and such like. That is why I had not noticed them before. I always play huge on 100% because of all the jumping all over to see where scouts and survey ships are. personally I think It is a lot of messing around, and detracts from the enjoyment(only a bit I admit).

Any other thoughts out there?
