AI working at massive cash deficit

I am in a massive war with the Arcean Empire, my spies tell me that they have -85791 in cash and have an 11 percent appoval rating. How can they continue to wage war on me and all the other races? Shouldn't you start to lose ships at a negative cash flow (ie. not able to maintain them?)

I don't know about losing ships, but the same thing happened to me. Eventually the aliens morale tanked and their systems started defecting to me en masse. In ~20 turns I went from control of maybe 40% of the galaxy to a cultural victory.

If you had 11 pecent approval rating and -85791 cash you would be in real trouble. The other races should be following the same rules. Well maybe BETA 4 will change things once again.

Kvim,

They are loosing ships, in their war against you. And they can not build any more because their people are all out on strike. At least, that is the way I view it. Having a negative treasury does, in some other games I have seen, cause you to loose units or buildings, but not in GC. Those other games do this to help you keep your treasury from tanking, which I thinik is kind of cheesy. GC makes you manage your own treasury.

Also, the AIs running at severely negative treasuries is a reported bug. Brad has told us that the AI in beta 4 is much improved, so I would expect the AIs to be more intelligent about managing their treasury.

Too bad. I suspect I will not be able to trade my Love Mushrooms for 100BC per turn for 60 turns anymore :sniff!:

I got rid of the repeat posts. :)

Jack,

Actually, they weren't losing too many ships as they couldn't attack me due to other bugs. If you can withstand their onslaught for long enough, eventually the go into a tail spin, but if it wasn't for the ship attack bug...I would have been dead long before that point I fear. So, due to a bug (in my opinion) they can produce a ton of ships with a positive cash flow/account, then attack me while hemoraging massive amounts of cash. Due to another bug I was able to withstand this, so I guess that worked out ok :)

I still think that once you go negative, your ships should suffer from the lose of maintainence. Lose 10% hull while not getting any perhaps?

I am playing a game gigantic map.

The Bradian AI declared war on two major races.

This is wrong on so many levels.

Minor races are susposed to be happy to stay in their sector.
The Brads control 9 sectors.

Why would they declare war when they are not susposed to want to expand and conquer the galaxy like major races.

Second as per the topic this race in bankrupt hugely -535353BC.

Where do they get ships and resource to declare war ?

As Lucky Jack said these are all known bugs.
Can not wait to get the next BETA, hopefully minor race bugs will be gone.

Kvim,

Then there would have to be something to allow you to reduce spending on maintenance (what do you think, Brad?). But I think the only time this would be needed would be if your maintenance cost was more than your revenue.

I am not sure what causes the treasury to go haywire like that. IT looks like a ULONG is getting thrown in there or something.

The last time I saw this bug, the AI's economy rating was bugged up too (something around 1.1 million). Which is the cause and which is the effect is uncertain, but the two have always appeared together in my experience.
