Cool!!! It looks like we will get the CD of the full game sent to us!!!!

I just read the news item on the front page:
"owever, be aware that when the GAMMA become available, we will be closing updates to all but a handful of beta testers for security purposes. You'll be able to continue playing the beta but subsequent builds won't be available until release at which time you'll get the CD-ROM version sent to you."

So the people that bought the beta and full version will get the full vrson on CD... I hope this means they will just ship us the retail box version that will be in stores... The part about us not getting anymore updates is a bummer but that means I will really be excited when I receive the full version in the mail!!

Jack,
I forgot this - but the actual game was 55 MB I remember, and the multimedia was certainly below 200 MB - so...do we have different versions?

Having just downloaded the game today, I can say with some certainty that the game itself was 55.xx MB and the MM package was 167.XX MB

Well I guess I must be mistaken. I don't think there is any chance that we have different levels, the DGM is good at monitoring that. Being a "senior" allows me a little mixup in the grey matter, doesn't it? LOL

Please Stardock, send us all the full retail factory sealed box. It would be fairly crappy if we're given less that someone buying it at CompUSA in exchange for our efforts. I collect game boxes, after all.

Fleshpile - you get more than when you buy regular games in this deal - and it is NOT up to Stardock, it's a matter of the willingness of the publisher Strategy First, obliging Stardocks wishes in this matter.

Remember, you bought the game knowing this :)

Flemming,

Actually SD has a history of improving on their promises throughout the development of GC. At first, the direct purchasers were only promised the downloads (1-2 years ago). Several months ago they upgraded with the promise to send us a CD with the larger multimedia stuff (for a nominal fee), because it is not practical to download it on a D/U.

Two years ago there was no option for purchase of a game with a cd and manual. Those of us who purchased drengin funded the development. I asked at that time if I could purchase a "hard copy" and was told there was no plan to publish. I think it's more than appropriate to provide those who put their money up when the project was just beginning to get a hard copy. There wasn't even an beta for a year.

Let's bear in mind that Drengin.net was $49.95 back then and not only gets you GalCiv (which beta testers paid $44 for) but also The Corporate Machine, LightWeight Ninja, Stellar Frontier, and more. I don't think Drengin players have any reason to feel they haven't gotten a good deal.

I suspect we'll put something together to offer Drengin players the ability to purchase (at a nominal cost) the GalCiv CD.

I bought the Drengin Package and nowhere was I given the idea that I would be gettting anything less then the full version of GalCiv.

I don't like this talk about not getting the full multimedia version.

As I said before I don't care about getting a CD and/or a box, but I definately expect to be able download the full (multimedia and all) game and at least a PDF of the final manual.

And as for paying a "nominal sum" for the CD to be sent; no thank you. I already paid full price.

Just let me be able to download the full game and I'll stay a happy camper. :D

Who said you wouldn't be getting the full multimedia? All users will be able to download all of GalCiv electronically.

Frogboy

Your Supreme Avatarness,

I had always thought that this was to be the case and as I said above I am still a (very) happy camper. :D

Thanks for the confirming post though.

Awaiting the 1.0 release of Gal Civ (and MOO 3) with as much patience as I can muster.

Time creeps on an on (and on . . .) in its petty pace.
