Window Transitions & Dragging Not Working

Window Transitions & Dragging Not Working

Hi,

Everytime I enable the Window Transitions or Window Dragging, WinFX 3 freezes (if I click the Try button). The windows that WinFX 3 tries to apply the effect on will also freeze. If I terminate WinFX, everything goes back to normal.

The following is the details shown by Performance advise,
Video Card: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700
Driver Ver: 6.14.10.6476 (latest for this laptop. ATI does not support ATI Mobility)
Constant Alpha Blending and Per Pixel Alpha Blending is accelerated by these drivers.

Thanks.

Hi,

I was checking out the trial version over the weekend on my home computer and the window transitions were freezing, I have a NVIDIA geforceFX 5200 in that system with the most recent drivers.

I decided to try it today on my work machine (different setup but same graphic card) and everything works fine here?

Has any progress been made figuring out what is causing the freeze or is there a fix available for the trial version? I'd love to give this program a try on my home computer to see if it's worth buying.

Thanks,
Mike

Same issue here...

I *CAN* use the "Make windows turn semi transparent" effect for Window Dragging. Any other affect here will freeze the window where the effect is happening.

Same for Window Transitions. If I have ANY effect turned on here, it will freeze the window where that effect is happening.

Nvidia 7600GT PCIe video card and latest drivers.

This discussion is very discouraging. I finally broke down and paid for WindowFX, Window Blind, etc. and I am having the same problems with have been reported since August 2006 when this whole thread was started. I do not feel hopeful for an resolution anytime soon

I still am having the problem of windows turning black. I have the very latest Nvidia drivers and WFX.

sbridgeford: The original issue reported in this thread was resolved by the latest beta release.  Make sure you are using that.

Windows turning black sounds like a video driver issue.

Hey Neil Banfield,

I started Stardock Central and checked the "Show pre-release versions" option at the bottom of the screen. It displayed a beta version 3.00a.005 dated 08/25/2006 and gave me the option to Update, which I did. I was running version 3.00.013 dated 06/07/2006. After rebooting my system (it said I had to do that before the update would work), the problem is still the same. I am running the newest drives for my video card. The "Performance advice" option in WindowsFX reports that I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 video card and the driver is 6.14.10.9371 (93.71). So what can I do next to get this working correctly? I have an open problem ticket (#1219060350) but Mike / milksama has not done anything with it since Dec 21, 2006. I have made several requests to know the status of this problem. BTW, I see that your office building is up for sale. Is everything OK there in Plymouth? Are you moving? Is Stardock going out of business?

Tech support are closed this week which would be why you have not had a response since the 21st.

What exactly is happening when you use window transitions & dragging effects?

As for the building, Stardock do not own the basement floor of the building which I believe has been for sale since the building was put up.  It is nothing to do with Stardock and we are not moving or going out of business!

Let me fix this bold madness, first. The latest drives/fx build works with no black animation

Hello,

I bought WindowFX yesterday and I've got this problem: for several applications the transition doesn't work (for example I've set the transition Spin2Taskbar) and it doesn't work for the explorer (actually it's very very very slow) but work for the iexplorer!

The drag effects are also very very slow for all the applications.

What's the matter?

My graphics card is an ATI X1900XT, drivers v7.1

I've contacted the Stardock technical support about this issue... wait & see

Has anything been done about this issue? I'm pretty annoyed that I've spent money on this product and the dragging and transitions don't work. This was the main reason I bought it in the first place. Does anyone know if this has been fixed?

Sad to say, I've been having this issue to, but only with my laptop, which is running an ATi Radeon 9000 Mobility (64MB). During transition test, window minimizes to the bottom left of screen, no animation observed with any setting. The only window dragging effect which works correctly (or at least appears to) is to make the window transparent. This is regardless of the performance setting. On my desktop, which is a Nvidia 7900 GT, running the latest drivers, all transition and window dragging effects work just great. No idea why it works on one computer and not the other....could be driver related...ATi vs. Nvidia.

If you have a mobility / integrated chip you must ensure you install the latest WindowFX beta using SDC.  They do not report support for a function that WindowFX was looking for and so WindowFX disabled its transitions on those machines.

So I found a potential solution. I switched drivers on my Radeon Mobility 9000 to the Omega drivers vs. 3.8.252 (based on Catalyst 6.5). Once I installed these drivers...the transitions started working just as they do on my desktop.

For those having issues...especially those with old video cards...make sure the drivers you are using FULLY supports the card that you have. In the case of ATi...many of the older cards aren't fully supported by the newer drivers.

Good luck all.

EDIT: Drag effects work when test button is hit in WinFX panel, but effect does work on actual windows (except transparency). So it's not perfect....but we're much closer.

do you have it set to only show drag effects on windows below a certain size?
