5 Liter Box Wine
SuspecTed
Loneliness and Independence are only as expensive as a 5-liter box of wine…
Or so I thought.
Or so one would think,
But you’ll sink on this sea I’ve made,
Bounding waves, and deserted islands…without shade.
Loneliness and independence are $7 plus tax…but unavailable on Sundays.
Unavailable in one way,
But you’ll stay awake scanning prime time just to pause,
At the soothing sounds of laugh tracks…and applause.
Loneliness and Independence, homesickness and unlearned lessons,
Are relentless,
And I can’t stress this enough.
Loneliness and Independence, passionless pasts in the present,
Are relentless,
And I can’t repress this enough.
Loneliness and Independence left me penniless and irrelevant…or so I thought.
Or so one would think,
But the chain-link between here and there is rusting,
Wealth I’m acquiring by relearning how to be patient…and trusting.
Loneliness and Independence are seldom guests…but always make themselves at home.
Always make their presence known,
I’ve been shown how to be a good host,
So raise your plastic cup as I prepare my toast.
To Loneliness and Independence for all they give and take,
For all the things they destroy and create,
For all the times I’ve been forced to hesitate.
For all the lies they’ve helped me tell,
For all the ones that weren’t believable and the ones they bought as well,
For all the times my heart swelled…
Now raise up this body.
In the corner,
Stand me upright in the display case,
In perfect order,
Stand me upright and paint a half smile on my blank face.
