How to remove Recycle Bin from desktop...

I have added a Recycle Bin to an ObjectDock. How do I remove the default Windows XP Recycle Bin from the desktop?

Thanks

Been there. The only objects that it appears I can remove from the desktop are:

My Documents
My Computer
My Network Places
Internet Explorer

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Jay

Hiding the Recycle Bin
How do you remove the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop? Microsoft removed the other icons from the desktop but not the Recycle Bin icon. I suppose it's because emptying the trash wouldn't be as easy without it.

Listing 1 hides the Recycle Bin. There are different ways to hide the icon, but this is the best method. It hides the Recycle Bin icon whether you're using the classic or new Start menu. Use Notepad to create a text file called Hidebin.reg. Copy Listing 1 to Hidebin.reg, and then double-click the file to import it into the registry. If you miss the Recycle Bin icon and want to show it again, create the text file Showbin.reg and copy Listing 2 in to it. Double-click Showbin.reg to restore the Recycle Bin icon to the desktop.

Both listings require you to refresh the desktop in order to see your changes. To do that, click anywhere on the desktop, and then press F5.

Download & install the microsoft power tool TweakUi and then open it and click on "Desktop" and uncheck recycle bin. That will remove it from your desktop. This method is much safer if your not familiar with your registry which will cause you problems if you don't do something right.

Though this thread is a few months old, I have to sincerely recommend NOT messing with the registry. If you don't know what you're doing it can really mess stuff up. Besides, it's not even necessary. TweakUI does it safely and easily, and it can easily be reversed.

It does for me, I don't know why it won't for you. I have no icons on my desktop at all, simply because I did what Bichur said to do.

Your computer is broken. And your mom's the speed limit.
