Doesn't Earth just look beautiful in DA with High-Res texturing? :)

I've already requested most of that myself for 1.6.

1.6?? YIKES! 1.6, 1.6, can i get a 1.5? 1.5 anyone?

Thanks Kryo, keep me posted.

Whoa... these look awesome! I'll certainly download them when you release them. I just hope they don't make my computer explode...

It really shouldn't. The Earth Map is 2048x1024, and all the alien homeworld maps, cloud maps, and moons are 1024x512 (which is double the resolution of the originals). If your computer meets the recommended specs (not minimum, but recommended) specs for the game, it should handle the maps just fine.

Ok, here's my first take on Kryseth... I'm not sure i'm digging it tho. Kryo, community, what do you think?

I'm not too sure about the (rocky?) patch right on the middle of it. Can you just post the entire texture itself?

I tried to blend some pail green foliage with desert and ocean. I thought the dark rocky patch went with the desertness, but here's the texture (shrunk to 512x256).

My take on Kora

I would say just get rid of that dark spot, otherwise it looks pretty good. The dark spot just doesn't really seem to 'belong' to me.

Kora looks pretty good.

Reguarding Kora, the oceans are the red, and the land is the sick green and reddish combo. What do you think about redoing Kora's oceans in dark sick orange with a lot of black? Or do you like the pale red?

As for Kryseth, i think you're right, out with the oil feild, in with more sand.

(I guess i should start on the terrain color schemes. I've been putting it off b/c its such a PITA. Making the terrain maps, that's fun, that's creative. The .raw terrain schemes, that's just... ick. Having to open and close the game so many times, it just gets old quick, as i'm sure everyone that works on games knows. Oh well, off to work i go.)

Alternate Iconia texture, a mechinized Iconia with piping and a mechanical look over the surface.

*Yells into the wilderness* Hellllloooooo?? Anyone???? Kryo??????
I think I prefer the tubeless Iconia myself
Reply #38 Top
And Kora? You prefer the red oceans over perhaps an orange/black ocean.

Darker might look better, go ahead and give it a try.

You better end up releasing this.

I plan to release them shortly after the final release of Dark Avatar (february 14th as of now), to make sure they're fully compatible with any last minute changes. I don't forsee any issues, but one never knows.

OK, i took one more stab at a mechanized Iconia. I removied the clouds for a better view. Yea? Nea?

I think it's pretty sweet looking.

Ok, here's my second version of Kora. Darker, more of an orange-red hue. Again no clouds so you can see the texture better. Kryo, everyone, opinions? This one or the first?

P.S.
Kryo, out of curiosity, is there any way currently to designate a planet in CustomPlanets.xml as one of non-standard types of colonizable worlds (I.E. Toxic, or Aquatic.)?

ps if you want a ginuea pig to try out your custom planets on a dual-core machine please let me know Email

I like that one better than the first 'tubes' version. Up to you which you use (plain or this), I could go with either one.

I like that one. Might make the 'shallows' a bit darker, at first glance it's not obvious which part is the water and which is the land!

Yep. Use the <PlanetType> </PlanetType> tag with one of the following values:

HabitableByAll
HeavyGravity
Aquatic
Toxic
Barren
Radioactive

You mean lighter? Darker would make the ocean almost all black... I take it you mean make the shallow (less black) areas of the ocean brighter, so you can tell the color more?

I think i'll release the plain Iconia texture in the main pack, and the pipe version as an "add-on".

And thanks for the planettype tags!

It's not a matter of seeing the color, but being better able to distinguish the land from the sea. Right now the shallows are about the same color as the high-altitute land, so it can be a bit confusing. But my head-cold probably isn't helping me with that
